I like period Cdramas because of Hanfus and how men had long :-D and makes me see how "Han chinese people" lost a part of their culture by Ming destruction and mandchou invasion. Sometimes I am surprised to see more kissing scenes in ancient dramas than modern ones lool. But on the FL characters I feel lakorns still got more b.tchy/raeng Nang'eks than Cdramas do. Now I am staying far far away from school cdramas since the heroines aren't my types.
I feel there probably is more ....but I also watched more thai dramas...so it will seem more regardless. I usually watch wuxia drama.... that eta to me gives off & extra charm & beautiful costumes!

I don't like tragedy but good bye my princess....soo good

All Asian dramas has their own charm. The reason why I rotate. I watch Bollywood, lakorn, Hong Kong, Chinese (Mainland), Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese drama (including anime)... I am not sure if I should include Filipino drama (I have only seen 3), The thing that lakorn lack is pretty obvious, English captions. And that is not the only issues lakorn face.

Oum Ruk really started an era... it was one of the very first lakorn to be English subbed by fellow fans. And good lakorn do not get picked up by subbing groups.

We want variety from the usual tropes.....

There is no sub for pinoy drama

Lately k & c drama are more interesting story wise.....but I don't watch too much drama in general

I haven't watched Thai lakorns for many years. What turn me off about Thai's dramas are that, the ML was strong in the beginning but gets weak later, either his mother or nang rai manipulates him, Nang Rai gets crazy beyond believing, and there is no real kiss. Thai society don't accept real kisses on TV but in reality do they actually practice abstinence before marriage.

Goodbye My Princess was one of my fav dramas in 2019. My fav was definitly "Joy of life". They made Cheng Xing Xu one of my most anticipated china young actors and Zhang Ruo Yun one of my fav actors

Goodbye My Princess had so much potential to be a hit drama and to make their leads red hot popular, but alas, the massive changes to the script to "push" the second female lead backfired and made the viewers mad instead. I see great things for Chen Xing Xu's future, not only can he act, he has both the looks and the height.

You just explained 99% of all lakorn :risas3: there are a few gems but they're not appreciated. Neung Ruthai and Khun Nu Chantana just to name a few (yes I am old lol) and they lack medical and crime lakorn. I mean we get pra ek as doctors and nang ek as nurses but we don't get to see them actually work, their experiences, relationships with their patients and coworkers. Let's just say they don't deep dive. Voice (staring Andrew and Pancake) is actually a good stepping stone but I find it still very weak in exploring the dyanmics in the field of crime.

Ch3 should pick back up on boran and revive it. They just need to invest more money to produce better quality in all areas- actors, script writers, directors, costumes, and better CGI. I really see potential in boran.

Lakorns lack in several genres. It's either too much melodrama, or an overuse of romcom. Plus all the namnao they can't part ways with.

I agree they need to delve into crime, suspense and medical genres. I wonder if it has to do with the privacy of filming in an actual hospital and using the equipment etc.

Their main characters are always either, 3rd generation tycoons or a poor girl/guy from the slums.
Rarely will the plot not be about some social class differences between the leads.

AND yes, can they stop making p'eks dumb mannequins that are either a mama's boy or can't forget the dumb exgf/nang'rai.

GbMP is a hit drama.it took me awhile to watch it cuz I hate tragedy....it is soo popular they have the director cut available (rereleased not long ago). It aired in korea....they won awards as actor and as a series...as far as I know.. .it blew up my IG feed too much that it got me to watch the serie. Both are great actors

They didn't think it would be.....I like the changes....the M.L. is less cruel than the book

It is a hit overseas, but I'm talking about like phenomenon hit drama status, like The Untamed and Joy of Life levels in China. It was building momentum, but then people got really mad mainly about the changes made to Zhao Se Se's character, and all the praise and love went right out the window. I don't mind the changes to the male lead's character either, since he was like a sociopath in the book, but I absolutely can't stand the emphasis on ZSS's character. Male lead can be nicer, but why is he so wishy washy towards someone that tried to kill his beloved?! The production company did a lot of shady stuff bts in order to promote the actress for ZSS's character since she was under them. Writing this post makes me realize I'm still not over this drama because of how involved and mad I feel lol.

I didn't follow it since I hate tragedy. They didn't even think it would get to the level it did
... both Leads were 2nd choices...it did not meet untamed level but I still think it has found great success....fans wanted more and they comply with the epilogue

The serie surprise a lot of ppl.... the crew & audience who thought it would fail (were unhappy with it)

I'm glad she( F.L.) is finally have some new series....her agency with FBB who was in trouble with the law.

Same here. Lakorn is a lakorn and it's not lakorn anymore when the style changes.

Lakorns will always catered to their core viewers. Which, they are still longing for the plot of the olden days. Where the n'ek is the innocent poor girl and the pra'ek is the arrogant rich man. They have found success in that area and it's likely not going to change. And lakorn doesn't really believe in woman in her 30s that's accomplished without the help of a man to be something worth tackling because they feel their viewers doesn't care about that.

CDramas has a lot of high school plots but they also have a good mixture of other storylines. I don't necessarily like the long episodes but if a drama is done right the long episodes can really flushed out the story.

LoL .Lakorn brainwashed me for years. Rich man is the prince in shining amor out to rescue all Cinderella out there and of course, the accomplish damsel in distress too .

It needs to change with the times....upgrade the methods....I also grew up watching that wit my mom.

Viewership in general for thai lakorn isn't great. They are lucky to reach 10...even ch 7 ...a 6/7 is now considered good....

I.e. crashing landing on you has the original cliche of the beginning of kdrama....the core cliches....they did it in a smart and cheeky way...where ppl appreciated those trope but they didn't over do on the dramatic.

I like some of the nam nao lakorn .....but it doesn't need to be nam nao 80% of the lakorn available....it need to broaden itself.....they need to challenge themselves....

Also we will never really appeal to the wider international audience with that. Soap Opera is dead in the USA...(daytime nam nao)

@byebye

Yes C drama has lots of variety available....kdrama as well....they also have the usual tropes but branches off and level up on different genre
