Hello fellow Wii buddies!
Here I'll be posting up any news and updates on Nintendo's newly successful system titled Wii (and DS).
I do weekly posts mostly on new releases of classic games (from NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafix16, etc.) on the Virtual Console located within the Wii Shop Channel.

So basically, I'm just copying and pasting from my Wii blog to here and other forums. \:D/

Also, I hope I'm allowed to double post multiple times because judging from the activity in this forum, I've got a feeling some times there won't be a reply after my last post. So the following post will be the latest news I wrote last Monday.

WAH~! Forgot about my thread here. Here's a post I wrote dated from 2007.08.07, while later ones will follow:

Hey all, sorry for the late update. My schedule was really tight yesterday so I didn't have much computer time to write.

Anyway, latest news first. There's a new Wii Firmware update version 3.0U; It's been a while since our last firmware update so here's a list of what's up:

- Digital Clock added to the Wii Menu right under the channel bar
- Forecast Channel now displays the current condition (cloudy, raining, etc.) directly in the Wii Menu in the Forecast Channel box

Wii Shop Channel Redesigned (Visual aesthetic is the same, changes made to organization and browsing methods mostly)
- New Welcome screen detailing 4 Recommended Titles and the points they cost (gone is the title screen bar that had linkable games). The title bar can be clicked on to bring up a list of 20 recommended games.
- Titles You’ve Downloaded was moved to the main shop menu
- New ways to browse (by genre, etc.)

More details at Source: Vooks

Also, notice to all Wii owners with modchips! The update will disable all modified Wiis so be careful before you update to make sure that your modchip manufacturer has this backed up. \:D/

New details on Super Mario Galaxy says the game will feature six worlds varying from size and style based on the themes of fire, ice, water, sand, fruit, and more. Mario will still be able to butt stomp (or ground pound) and long jump. He'll also be collecting multi-colored stars which are used for shooting enemies, power ups, perform special attacks

Okay, earlier within the week, we all were celebrating the fact that Wii has now caught up to XBox360's sales, no surprise there 'cause it's bound to happen, and are now racing head to head.

This graph shows total console sales from the launch of the 360.
The Nintendo Wii has officially sold 10,680,000 consoles in less then 9 months after it's launch on November 19th, 2006. The Wii surpassed the Microsoft Xbox 360 (which has been on the market for a year and 9 months) and nearly tripling the PS3.

Here's a proper breakdown: VGChartz

Today's Virtual Console Update!

You’ve longed for it, you’ve begged for it and now it's finally here. Nintendo's Month of Metroid continues with today's release of the ultra-classic Super Metroid® for the Super NES®. It's one of the many teasers to wet your appetite in advance of the Aug. 27 release of Metroid® Prime 3: Corruption for Wii™. You have a full week to dive into Super Metroid and explore the other great new games added to the Wii Shop Channel: Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master™ and Neutopia.

More info and gameplay previews @ www.wii.com

---------------------
Continuing on with Metroid Month, if you guys don't know yet, there's a Metroid Prime 3 Preview channel available for free download where you can view gameplay videos of the upcoming game. Two new videos have been added today. Be sure to check them out when you get the chance!

Also, you may test out the Metroid Prime 3 Demo at your local Gamestop/EB Games stores.
We've got another full week until the future masterpiece arrives. If you can't wait and want to spoil yourselves, you may find some real gameplay footage on YouTube, 'cause 1up crew has gotten a hold of the game earlier in the week before everyone else.

By the way just to show off some Metroid pride, earlier last week I bought myself a Metroid T-shirt; New in stock @ Hot Topic:

---------------------

According to Datel staff, the new Action Replay for the Wii will not be usable online. Even if hackers make codes designed for online, it will not work. This will most likely come as a relief to Action Replay haters out there, and it will make online much more fair and fun. The release date for the Action Replay Wii is also delayed, and the new release date is February 1st, 2008.

--------------------
New Brain Age 2+DSLite Crimson/Onyx Bundle:

It's a cool new color in the DS line. The bundle all together will cost $149.99 and hits stores around August 21st (tomorrow!).
If you're lucky, I read that BestBuy has a mistake of having fully red DSLites rather than a combo with Onyx black. So if you stumble upon it, don't return it cause it's very RARE~! \:D/
"The top half of the new Nintendo DS sports a smooth, glossy Crimson, reminiscent of a dangerous shade of lipstick or a cherry-red sports car. The bottom is a matte black – an Onyx yin that complements the Crimson yang."
"Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day is the sequel to the smash-hit original that got baby boomers and seniors playing and redefined the concept of what video games could be. This new title includes 15 fun new activities designed to help users exercise their brains. It challenges players in areas like math, memorization and even music."
Though there's been no release date for the UK.

-------------------
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Producer of EA Canada, Matt Tomporowski, spoke with IGN about the upcoming Medal of Honor sequel about "Action Gestures" being a "huge part of the game". One such gesture will allow players to reload their shotgun by pumping the Nunchuk in a manner typical of that weapon. "We also have the bazooka which is of course a shoulder mounted weapon, so in-game you actually lift the Wii Remote up to your shoulder to engage the weapon," Tomporowski said of another action gesture. "When you fire it, you hear the rocket launching out of the chamber through the Wii remote speaker right next to your ear."

Up to 32 players will be able to compete online in the Wii version of Heroes 2, but no offline multiplayer will be available, allow players to "quickly and easily jump in and out of the online action anytime, default game preferences, but more experienced gamers will also have options for number of players per map, usable weapons and more, support of the Wii Zapper peripheral to both single and multi-player campaign. Heroes 2 will utilize EA's online service rather than Nintendo's Friend Code system, no voice chat but rather "quick chats" that "can quickly send important, audible, tactical messages to other members of your team in team based games."

Expected this fall.

-------------------
Now onto Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

There's a new Stickers system, Yes the kinds that you put on your notebook or skateboard, that you'll be able to collect throughout the game. With stickers, you'll have an easier chance of gaining your trophies.

Princess Peach is back in Brawl.

Link's Special Attacks: his moves from the previous Smash Bros' are present in Brawl, now updated to Gale Boomerang which sends enemies hovering off the ground for a bit, his Hero's Bow+arrow, Bombs, and charge-up sword Spin Attack. All that, and Clawshot which'll be used to perform life-saving tether recovery by aiming at available ledges.

Samus will be able to perform tether recovery also with her whip.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption launches tomorrow! You may check out the demo at some stores like Gamestop or EB Games. All retailers will have it in stock by tomorrow. I preordered mine online, so it should arrive by Wednesday, hopefully.

The last chapter to the Prime series, considerably the best thus far, perhaps the best Wii title to date.

Reviews are soaring! IGN rating it a high 9.5 today.

Also, if you guys haven't seen yet, the final 2 video previews are available on the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel which is downloadable from the Wii Shop. you take a peek at Dark Samus.

Oh, did you guys know House (from the Fox hit TV show House M.D.) plays a lotta Metroid? I remember seeing one episode playing it on a Gameboy Advance SP. In recent episodes he plays Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS, turns up the volume to see if the patient can hear it.

I played the Wii seriously with my friend for the first time a couple of days ago. I have to say that I'm a huge fan now. I'm going to have to get myself one of those.

I'm a huge fan of Zelda and I heard the new Zelda was just amazing. The thing that I didn't like though were the sports game on the Wii. I like all sports game like Madden, FIFA, and NBA Live, but the controller was just too weird for it to me.

There's a pre-order available for Guitar Hero III Bundles.
The Extreme Bundle will come with keychain, gig bag, and strap while the Elite Bundle comes with all those 3 items plus custom faceplate, and GH3 T-shirt.

Guitar Hero III Official Store for Wii

Guitar Hero III for the Wii will be the "unique" one of the bunch as it’s the only version that requires players to plug in a Wii remote before they can start rocking out.
With a pricetag of $89.99, the release date is set for October 29th of this year.
Features: 16:9 Support, 480p Support, Online, Force Feedback
Actually, the Wii Remote+Guitar combo adds a couple of features that won't be in the other versions of Guitar Hero. First: Rumble; The Wii version will be the only Guitar Hero game that will feature force-feedback thanks to the rumble in the controller. Second: Wii Remote's Speaker; which is used for the game's "squelch" when you miss a note. Hearing it come from your guitar makes two player co-op and two player competition a bit more fun since you can easily tell which player's the one that's screwing up the notes.

If you guys didn't know, Speed Racer is being brought back to life in a live-action motion picture for 2008. The game has been announced for Wii, DS, and PS2 and will be based upon the movie itself.

Also, For the RPGers out there, I'd like to mention a new Fire Emblem title for Wii. It'll be called Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn which takes place three years after the events of the GameCube's title Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Newly added to the North American version will be widescreen support. A "Battle Save" function, new to the Fire Emblem series, will allow players to create a permanent save in mid-battle. Radiant Dawn can be played with the Wii Remote by itself (held vertically or horizontally), as well as with the GameCube and Classic controllers.
It's expected to be released in America this fall on November 5th.

Smash Bros. DOJO! reveals Mario's special Down move ability to use the F.L.U.D.D. water pack (as in Super Mario Sunshine [for GameCube]) to pump water and send players off a great distance. It's also chargeable while shielding and best used in critical moments in battle. His previous Down move, Mario Tornado (spinning arms), is still present in Brawl but may be a normal move now.

The new version of the Pokemon Stadium stage will featured guest Pokemon in the background as the stages shifts. The stage will shift to different terrains such as Electric, Fire, Wind, and Ice.

There's a new feature called My Music, located within the Options, which will give players the ability to choose music, and the probability of the song playing, in each stage. The songs range from previous Mario and Zelda games, for example, even "The Dark World" theme from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past [SNES]. To collect these songs, players will find CDs appearing on the stage and they will be added to the My Music roster for future selection. No word on how many songs there will be yet.

Today reveals a new assist trophy which is Muchlax, a pre-evolved form of Snorlax (from Pokemon). Muchlax will appear and will eat up nearby items whether it be a Fireflower, Raygun, Bumper, etc. So if he appears, be quick on grabbing your items before they.. disappear.. \:D/

The game's due out on December 3rd at the end of this year in America.

Yeah, some big announcements the past week. I should've dropped them off here once they arrived.
This week alone is one memorable week in gaming history for not only the radical change in the industry but the release of one of most notable games that is Halo 3. LOL, it is video game related so it's worth a mention!

It's great to see Wii an international success. Here we'll take a took at how it's doing in South Korea (where MMORPG is grandmother of gaming). The DS has only been released for a little over a year and it's been doing very well. Nintendo wants to bring its games to the masses. With the popularity of Nintendo DS in South Korea, it shouldn't be long until Wii arrives and conquers over. Read more about the state of Wii and DS:

By the way, the new colors: Glossy Silver and Metallic Rose are released in that area of the Asian region. I've been dreaming of that Glossy Silver since the announcement of the DS Lite.

X-OOM Software, part of bhv Software, a leading publisher of digital media software for media devices, will be releasing its X-OOM Media Centre for Wii in late October 2007. This ground breaking product turns your Nintendo Wii into a fully functional media centre, accessing all digital media on a PC via the Wii’s built-in Wi-Fi capability, allowing users to access their music, view photos and watch films on their Nintendo Wii. What sets this one different from the others is it provides access to more than 1000 TV channels and radio stations and supports MP3, WMA, OGG, DivX, XviD, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, WMV, JPG, BMP.

I don't know if Orb can already do that. But it wouldn't hurt to try it out and see, even though I already have an external Media Player w/ DVD by D-Link (DSM-320RD).

Paint by DS producer, Jason Harman, realizes that there is an opportunity on the Wii, and he may not let it slide by. While we are waiting on the DS version to head our way, Mr. Harman is thinking Wii. He even has some ideas about what could be included. "The Wii version could include other painting media such as a spray paint can and a roller."

YouTube video of the DS game in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGbsqYdWSrQ

I wouldn't mind trying it out first on the DS since I'm an artist myself.
Unfortunately, I think Paint by DS is hitting Europe and Japan right now. I'll have to wait for it to arrive in the US.

Tokyo Game Show (TGS) was a major success this year, and who is gaining more success than Wii. Even though Nintendo wasn't at the show, there were Wii and DS games all over the place. Really, this show was all about the Wii, as any third party with a Wii game was eager to show it off. Maybe Nintendo will be urged to appear at TGS2008, who knows. Read a Wired report on the state of TGS, and the lack of Nintendo company presence:

LucasArts has revealed that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will come to Wii next spring and you will be able to wield the Wii Remote as a Lightsaber. The game's story is set during the era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV A New Hope. The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also feature an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends. No word on there being an online mode.

"Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life", said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. "We’ve worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."

Now for updates on upcoming, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Piplup (from Pokemon Diamond + Pearl) makes an appearance in Brawl, and uses its Surf move to wash players away.

Snake (from Metal Gear Solid) makes a miraculous debut in Brawl. His special moves are Hand Grenade, Remote Missle, and his up special move is Cypher where he glides on his parachute. And the music for Snake will be the Metal Gear Solid: MGS4 Love Theme (Smash Bros. Brawl Version).

Trophies are back in Brawl. What are trophies? These are solid objects that appear as prizes and offer explanations of characters! You can check out the poses and learn the background of a variety of characters.

Finally, the huge announcement us fans have been waiting for. Wi-Fi Play is now included as one of the game modes.

We'll be able to play with Friends (requires Friend Code) or with Random online players. Distance with players may affect gameplay (ie. Japan vs. America would cause major lag). Playing With Friends enables you to add your Friends' names, check their status, change icons, and send short preset messages. With Anyone, it's simple quick battle; no information is seen from other players nor messages, instead names are replaced with P1, P2, P3, P4.

And while waiting for matches to load, you can practice punching a sandbag:

The producer, Masahiro Sakurai, is planning a number of services to further use the Wi-Fi (WiiConnect24).

Tecmo has announced that the next installment of its Fatal Frame horror series, Fatal Frame 4, is in development for the Wii. The earlier games didn't sell that well, but have amassed a sizable cult following. Now, with the burgeoning Wii phenomenon upon us, Tecmo has seen a way to give its underexposed franchise a second chance. You can certainly see where Tecmo is coming from, as snapping photos of ghosts is a staple game mechanic of the series, one that seems like a perfect fit for the Wii’s motion controls.

Interestingly, Tecmo has enlisted Grasshopper Manufacture to produce the game; Grasshopper is the studio behind Killer 7 and next year's sure-to-be-bizarre Wii actioner, No More Heroes. Tecmo has remained silent on the subject of release dates, but for now just add Fatal Frame to the growing list of promising third-party Wii games.

Nintendo has announced the November 2007 release of two new Wii Channels for Japan: the Mii Contest Channel and the Minna no Nintendo Channel (Everyone's Nintendo Channel).

The Mii Contest Channel will allow users to present their Miis to the world. The channel will feature a large plaza in which Miis can mingle, with users able to take the Miis of other people to their own console's plaza. A contest mode in which Miis are judged by users will also be available.

The Minna no Nintendo Channel (Everybody's Nintendo Channel) is the Wii implementation of Nintendo's DS Station retail kiosks. Users will be able to view promotional videos of upcoming titles and download DS game demos to their handheld. The channel will also include search features to assist in finding games.

America, Europe, and other regions will receive these channels at a later date.

------------------
Numerous publishers revealed their initial WiiWare titles during and following a Nintendo conference in Japan. Worldwide President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata disclosed that over 100 WiiWare proposals have been made by various developers during the company's Fall conference. The upcoming WiiWare service will allow users to download original software titles to their Wii console. "We've already received proposals for over 100 titles from software development companies," Iwata said. "We've made a platform for developing software at low cost, and would like to offer a new business chance based around a battle of ideas." He didn't state how many of those proposals have been accepted, nor did he use the opportunity to reveal pricing details for WiiWare software. A list of confirmed titles and their respective details has been compiled below.

Pokemon Ranch: Transfer Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl to Wii and raise them in a farm-like environment with Miis. Players can take pictures and send them to friends.

Dr. Mario: Use your Miis and challenge friends via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in this WiiWare remake of Doctor Mario. The game will also include a four-player edition of Saikin Bokumetsu from the Japanese version of Brain Age 2.

Maruboushikaku: A puzzle game with a theme based around three patterns -- maru (circle), bou (line) and shikaku (square). Three windows, each focusing on one of these patterns, will be displayed simultaneously. Player actions in one window will have a bearing on the other windows. The game will support single- and three-player modes.

Minna de Puzzloop: Released in America under the name of Magnetica, this version will use the Wii Remote for direct control and feature co-operative and competitive play for up to four people.

Okiraku Ping Pong Wii: This ping pong title will offer a challenge mode, in which players can earn items by competing in five mini-games, and a four-player split-screen doubles mode. Players will be able to choose between automatic and manual movement for swings. Top spin, back spin, smashes and other shots will be possible based on how players swing the Wii Remote.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Little King and the Promised Country: This "Country Building RPG" takes place soon after the events of the original Crystal Chronicles title for GameCube. Players will assume the role of a young monarch who must use the power of crystals to restore his fallen kingdom. It is unknown how the gameplay will compare to other Crystal Chronicles games. The title is expected to be released for 1,500 Wii Points alongside the Japanese launch of the WiiWare service in March.

Star Soldier R: Few details are known except that this game is a 3D vertical shooter and will be released during Spring 2008.

Mojipittan Wii: A new entry in Bandai Namco's popular series of puzzle games.

Bomberman: The game will be a new entry in the franchise, and release during Spring 2008, but no other details are known.

Joy Sound: The WiiWare version of the Joysound karaoke machine. The service will feature periodically updated music downloads, mini-games and more, replicating a full karaoke machine at home. Publisher Hudson will release a USB microphone, although it is unknown if the game will also support generic USB microphones. Joy Sound will released during Spring 2008 in Japan.

----------------
Wii Music will combine motions and button presses on both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to control a six-member Mii band. Forty instruments will be available in the single- and multiplayer modes. Solo players can either control four band members simultaneously or regulate the computer to the other musicians. The musical content of the game is currently unknown.

Nintendo first presented Wii Music at E3 2005, with the demo version allowing gamers to conduct a large orchestra. Although players will still be able to conduct in the game, it is unknown if the large-scale performances will remain.

Wii Music is expected to ship in Japan sometime in 2008. A release date for other territories has not been provided.

There is a blurred out icon that may or may not be implemented, but it's under development.

Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 15, 2007 - The new Flash Focusâ„¢: Vision Training in Minutes a Day is like nothing you've ever seen before. Just as Nintendo's brain-training games gave your gray matter a workout, Flash Focus aims to train users' eyes in areas like hand-eye coordination, peripheral vision and visual acuity. It launches today, exclusively for Nintendo DSâ„¢.

It might sound like a strange concept, but top athletes have long used high-tech computerized visual training programs to give them an edge on the baseball diamond, basketball court and football field. Now Nintendo makes this remarkable technology available to anyone who wants to have fun while tracking improvements in the various visual exercises. It's a great tool for moms who like to keep a "peripheral vision" watch on their kids or for people who want an edge spotting holiday sales.

"Flash Focus represents another one of our software titles that delivers fun with a purpose," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Flash Focus should be in the training arsenal of every coach in the country, but it's also ideal for casual game players of any age who want to keep their vision sharp."

The first time users pop in Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day, they take a series of tests to determine their DS Eye Age. As users spend a few minutes each day with the activities, they get better and better at the exercises and their Eye Age lowers to demonstrate their improved focus abilities.

Some of the many fun activities in Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day include:

* A variation of the hidden ball "hat dance" seen at baseball parks: A circle is placed in one of three boxes, and the user must follow the location of the circle as the boxes shuffle rapidly on the screen.
* Watching two symbols flash on the screen, then tapping the touch screen to indicate whether they matched.
* Memorizing a target letter and counting how many times it appears in a fast-moving stream of letters on the screen.

With Guilty Gear XX Accent Core already released in the United States last week, Europe won't be seeing this game until February 2008 according to a press release from publisher 505 Games.

Accent Core is the third installment of the Guilty Gear XX series of fighting games that debuted in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and arcades. Two characters, A.B.A and Order Sol, have been added to the roster of over 20 fighters. Accent Core will mark the first time that either A.B.A. or Order Sol have been playable outside of Japan. Accent Core is played using both the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk. Players will move their characters using the Nunchuk, while both simple and special attacks have been mapped to buttons on the Wii Remote. Some special attacks will be performed using a combination of button input and a gesture with the Nunchuk or Wii Remote.

Publisher Capcom announced the Wii port of PlayStation 2 title Okami.

"Players will now be able to directly manipulate the in-game Celestial Brush by literally drawing on the game world itself, thereby altering the physical properties - whether by creating pathways, chopping down trees, or turning night into day," said Michael Pattison, senior director of marketing for Capcom Europe. "The world, in essence, becomes a virtual canvas for Wii owners."

It will be developed by Ready at Dawn Studios who are also known for Daxter [PSP] and is currently at work on God of War: Chains of Olympus [PSP].

"In accordance with our tradition of only working on games we'd like to play, we're proud to announce that we are taking after Clover Studio to bring this incredible game to the platform it was always meant to be on in the first place," said Ready at Dawn.

Okami earned much critical acclaim upon release last year, but did not find the same retail success. No word on whether Capcom will include new content at a lower price point (like Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition).
The game is expected to be released during Spring 2008.

Smash Bros. DOJO!! released a few interesting updates including:
Stadium: Home-Run Contest, a competition to see who can hit Sandbag the farthest in just ten seconds (supports 2P on online)

Controls on Wii Remote (single, sideways)

Reminder that you can use 4 styles of controllers in Brawl.

Meowth (from Pokemon) is back in Brawl from the first Super Smash Bros. [N64] after a absence in Melee.

Also making a surprising appearance is Little Mac [from Puch-Out!! (NES)]. He will fill as an assist trophy.

It's great to see 8-bit NES characters returning in 3D form (incl. Pit from Kid Icarus).

Peach's Final Smash: Peach Blossom sends players asleep while she dances and peaches fall down.

Finally today's update was a new stage: PictoChat which is a fun little sketch-and-chat software with wireless functionality that's built into the Nintendo DS.

The doodles that appear will disappear after a while, and then something else will get drawn.
Oh, and on this stage, you’ll also be able to enjoy Mii Channel music and Wii Shop Channel music, too.
