Chapter 14

Her heart pounded furiously when she saw that the pictures were of her when she was a child, also a picture of her when she was in highschool in her uniform. Her hands shake as she reached for the last piece of paper that lay in the drawer. Kob knew it was something important once seeing it laminated.

It was a will and a contract, stating clearly that once Tik’s father was dead, his property should be divided in two. One half was given to the only son he had, Tik Jessadaporn Pholdee, and the other half to his friends’ daughter Kob Suvanant Kongying. Also stated that Tik would recived his half only if he married Kob. Opposite, Kob got the half without any compromise.

Tik moaned in discomfort, almost giving Kob a heart attack. She shuffled the papers and picture back into the drawer and walked out of Tik’s room like everything that night did not happen, nor did she see anything.

Kob went to her room, thinking about the contract, coming to conclusion that Tik wanted her to live only because he wanted to married her so that he can take back full responsibility and full control of the company and money.

*In the morning*

Kob woke up extra early, wanting to wake up before Tik does. Kob met the servants in the kitchen.

Kob: “eh…do you happen to know where my previous clothing are?”

Servant: “I believe I saw them in Mr. Pondee’s room…if you need clothes I’ll go get them for you…Mr. Pondee brought a lot but we were too busy and didn’t get the chance to hang them in your closet.” She excused herself; Kob didn’t get the chance to ask her another question.

Tik woke up feeling dizzy, he shook his head a couple of time, trying to see his surrounding clearly. He walked zig zagging down the stairs after he took a long shower and picking out something to wear. The servants watched each step their boss took, and looked on concerned.

Tik: “How’s Suvanant doing…?” he asked one of the maid who placed his coffee on the table. He picked up a newpaper and read it while he dranked his coffee.

Maid: “She’s doing very well, she’s just went outside a couple of minutes ago.” Tik banged his cup on the table making a huge sound that startled everyone who worked around the area.

Tik: “Why didn’t anyone wake me up and notify me that she had awaken.” The maid stutters and couldn’t get a word out of her mouth. Observing from the maid’s reaction, he knew he had scared her. “It’s alright, I’ll go find her. Just don’t let it happen the next time around.” The maid nodded and rushed back to her chores.

Tik was roaming outside his big mansion looking for Kob when cell phone rang. He took a look at the phone number that flashed in his cell and was frustrated.

Tik: “Euy…you again…” he said annoyed the moment he spoke into the cellphone.

Captain: “Don’t euy me…I’m calming Aom down for you…you better thank me…”

Tik: “Thank you then, Mr. Captain Hook” he joked.

Captain: “Yeah. Yeah. Call me whatever you want. I just wanted to know how Suvanant is doing.”

Tik: “…I’ll keep you update…nah…better not keep you updated…I don’t know how Suvanant’s doing…. All I know is that it’s very fun…especially the alone time with the only two of us.” he chuckled evily.

Captain: “Don’t joke with me” he yelled on the other line, almost causing Tik to go deaf.

Tik: “Okay. I’m not harming her. I’m just teaching her some lessons. We will be home a soon. Tell gramps to not worry.”

Captain: “Alright. You two take care.” he shuts the phone off and continued walking with Aom and Ploy in the shoppting mall.

Aom: “Who did you call?”

Captain: “I just call to check up on some businesss.” Though Tik had said Kob was doing fine, his guts were twisting. If something happen to Kob, Aom would never forgive him.

***Back at the Island Mansion***

Tik: “Kob!…Kob!…Kob?” he repeatedly shouted her name.

In her gown she sat in a wooden swing near the huge flower garden. Smelling the scent of the flower each time she swung higher. The swing rope was connected to a old tree that shaded the spot where she was located, around the tree red roses were blooming all around creating a perfect circle, though there was two cemet path road in the center of the circle where she had enter. The swing was homemade, but it was strong, so she trusted it and swung on it. While she memorized the beauty of her surrounding, she heard a yelled coming from the depts of the roses. Her swing came to a sudden halt as she searched around to whom maybe calling her. She thought the voice had stop, so she continued swinging and started humming.

The squeal from the swing and the humming of a women caught Tik’s attention to the area. Quietly he approached the ‘Circle of Love’ which was where Kob was staying, but stop half way and silently studied her movements. Her bare foot tapped the ground, shifting her speed and elevated the swing higher, her humming whistle with the rhythm of the wind, her hands gently grip the ropes, her gown flapped underneath, leaves from the tree flutter down around her, almost as if she choreograph nature’s action.

Tik knew the warm feeling he was experincing, the feeling of affection was delightful. Suddenly the pain of loneliness and the rage of seeking revenge were fading away.

He picked a rose from the batch of red rose bush near him and started plucking out the petals into his hand. Kob was stopped her hummng and stoppped the swing when she felt she had enough fun. She rested her head on the rope and took a deep breath. A soft thing fell down on her hand, she looked down and spotted a red petal on her hand. Above her she saw petals falling down, quickly got off the swing and found Tik standing by her side throwing a hand full of rose petals.

Kob: “What are you doing?” she asked.

Tik: “Just getting your attention.” He walked to her side. “So what were you thinking about earlier.”

Kob: “Nothing.”

Tik: “What are you doing here for?”

Kob: “Why do you ask me this when you are the one who brought me here.”

Tik: “I’m asking you why did you come into the garden”

Kob: “I am your wife am I? If so I can go where ever I want”

Tik: “My finance is comparable to a wife, that’s what I told the whole staff. If you get lost or hurt it’s going to be my problem. Since being a husband, I am soley responsible for your safety.

Kob: “Trust me. I can take care of myself. I’ll give you an example.” She stared into Tik’s eyes and took a step forward. “You had torture me all this time, but I still manage to survive. I promised you, I will hold on to my own life and don’t need you to take care of it.”

Tik: “That’s too bad, because once you were engage to me, I held your life and could take it at any time.”

Kob: “Don’t talk as if you’re God.” She snapped at him. “I can hold the name of being Jessadaporn Pholdee’s wife, but you never hold me back.

Tik: “Don’t’ talk back to me Suvanant!” Kob turned away, and walked off. “Fine Fine. Act that way if you want. That’s just the kind of attitude that gives me motivated.” He followed behind her.“I bet you that since you came out of your fever had been with other mans behind my back, as you notice this is a love island.”

Kob: “Love Island huh? What about you!? You must have gone further than I did” Hump, she held her head high. “You must have gotten aides by sleeping with your whores, especially the one who brought you home yesterday, or maybe made many women pregnant.”

Tik: “Yes I did my dear. I had fun getting aids and making women pregnant…so…” He stood in front of Kob and tipped her chin. “My wife…you must be jealous? I’m sorry that I’ve hurt your feelings.” he joked, but somewhat was serious. “Don’t act like an over protective wife.”

Kob: “I am not acting like an over protective wife!”

Tik: “Oh…come on…admit it.” Kob took a deep breath.

Kob: “Perhaps you are the one who is jealous…Notice how long the road is, how am I suppose to bring a man here or go to a man with no transporation.” she snarls at him.

Tik: “I would never be jealous of you…a girl like you I can find anywhere.”

Kob: “Really. Is that why you brought a girl like me home yesterday night. Is that right? Gosh…Tik you’re so good at finding girls like me. That girl is just like me, she’s a bad mouth and dresses unsuitable. “Should I applause you? A girl like me you can find anywhere” She sarcastically clapped her hands three times.

Tik: “I admit I can’t find a girl like you anywhere. But I’m not jealous of you…” the words spurt out like spits, Tik didn’t notice.

Kob: “Okay! I would like to see that you’re not jealous.” She thought for a while. “Meet me at noon outside the beach. “I’ll have that teenage chaffuer of yours to take me to the beach.”

Tik: “Go to the beach for what? Don’t intrude with my visitors?”

Kob: “Go to the beach at noon and you’ll find out. I’m not intruding your visitor, just think of it as if I’m helping one of your visitor find their lover. She glance at Tik and saw steam. She smiled to herself “Just meet me at the beach…you’ll know where I am when you get there…I’m famous…” she joked. She headed for the mansion to get an outfit.

Kob asked the servants to bring the clothing that Tik brought her. Once the servants were out of the room, she cut a pair of white pant and made them into shorts, and cut the shirt and made them short sleeves shirts. On her bed she held a thin cloth into the sunlight and carved a smile. “This will do the trick…”

Chapter 15

*Noon* There was a cool breeze on the island and the sand was soft and comfy under her toes. She held her sandals in one hand and dance around the water enjoying the wondorous atomosphere.

Tik wore his casual blue flower Hawaii shirt over his top, and a blue short. He walked on the beach for a while and then heard giggling. He walked on and notices a group of men gathering around something.

Kob: Let’s go into the water…” she dragged out a man that was tall and handsome through the crowd. When the group of men opened up, Tik saw Kob and another man. Kob wore a white short that came up to her thighs tighten and could see her every curve, alone with a long white shirt that had short sleeves, along with a blue cloth wrapped around her waist, and diagonally silted.

Kob invited some other couples into the water. She climbed onto the men’s shoulders once the man lifted her up, her legs was around the men’s neck as she hand wrestle and played with the other women who also got in their men. Kob and her guy were the winners of games. Tik had watch from afar and saw everything that happen. Kob knew Tik was watching and was acting the whole scene out.

Tik almost barged into the scene, but he did not want to make it a big fuss. So he went to one of his personal hut near the beach and calm himself there. Kob was satisfied when she saw Tik’s reaction but at the same time felt guilty. Later she found out that the guy she was playing with was gay, she was happy, otherwise she would have felt sorry for playing with him.

When the sun was hitting the horizon, Kob decided to head back to the mansion, but the gay guy who she played with earlier invited her for a drink at the outside bar. He wanted to thank her for making his boyfriend jealous and finally showed his love toward him. Kob couldn’t take down the offer, she was thristy and didn’t even have a dime on her.

After her drink, Saipope had given her a card (Instead of a room number, the huts are name by flower names), so she can slept in one of the hotel hut while he got the car fix. What really was behind it, Kob did not know.

By this time, night was begining to fall. Kob said her goodbyes to the gay couple and left to fnd her room. She looked up at the stars while she searched for her room. The stars glitter one by one near the huge full moon. She thought to herself, whoever created this island was a romantic gentlemen, the more she thought the more she wanted to meet the owner of the island.

It took her about five minutes to reach her room. When she arrived there she saw that her room had it’s lights on. So she quietly walked up the tiny steps and read the label near the door. She read “Red Roses- A Love Last For Enternity,” she raised her card into the moonlight and read the name on her card. It matches, and the room was hers, but she worried why the light was on. “Maybe it was the maids cleaning it and forgot to turn the light off. She peaked from the opening window and saw no one in there.

She entered the room. A light lamp was on the counter table since the huts had no electricity. Holding the lamp’s handle she observed the room. When reaching the bathroom, there was a wooden tub there, filled with water and red rose petals. She reached for one and smelted it, they were fresh and newly picked. “Maybe this is how they treat their visitors” she smiled to herself thinking how romantic it would have been if she had a couple with her. She placed the lamp on the table in the bathroom and closed the door behind her while she dipped herself in the tub. Kob tied her hair into a bun and sunk herself into the warm water, she played with the petals as she laid back. She hadn’t known how long she had been in the tub when she heard something calling from the door.

Nong Mai: “Miss? I’m going to take your clothing and wash them” Kob quickly got out of the tub and reach for the robe that hanged near the door. Hastily she wore it, grabbed her clothing and handed to her.

Kob: “Nong Mai?” She asked surprised.

Nong Mai: “At your service Mrs. Jessadaporn” she grab hold of Kob’s clothing and laid down a sleeping gown on the bed, leaving without saying another word. Everything seem odd, but Kob took it as it was, she didn’t want to loose the good opportunity to see something new.

She got into the soft and silky gown, and sat down on the counter table combed her hair. A loud knock came from outside. She placed the comb down and walked to the open door, as she was going to close the door she felt a large amount of weight falling against her. She fell to the ground and on her was Tik, smelling his breath Kob can tell that he drinking a fairly large amount of beverages again.

Kob: “Euy…!” Kob whined as she pushed Tik to the side of her. “Tik…?” she whispered, she poked the lifeless Tik, but no answer came from him. She sat on the rear end of her bed and stared at Tik who was till lying on the floor for about some minutes later. Kob finally lifted Tik, putting his arm over her shoulders, and pulingl him along toward the bed. After that Kob lifted Tik’s head and gave him the drink of water, she wiped the droplets from his chin with the end sleeves of her gown.

At the sound of Tik’s groaning Kob immediately got off the bed, and stood a few feet from him, avoiding any contact. Kob could see Tik trying to get himself to sit up. When he got himself to sit up he sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. He noticed Kob as he lifted his head.

Tik: What are you doing in my room?” his voice weak and he said it as if he didn’t know what was happening.

Kob: “You…you’re the one who is in my room”

Tik: “Never mind that.” He examined her. “Oh, I see, you wore the gown I bought you” he smirked.

Kob: “What?” she looked up and down the gown she was wearing. “I.um…” she mumbles.

Tik: “Wearing that gown without me forcing you, a big change in you…does this mean you’re beginning to like me?”

Kob: “No.never…I didn’t know it was you who bought it”

Tik’s joyful face faded, his face turned redder than before.

Tik: “Then take it off! If you don’t wan tit!” he grinned.

Kob: “Okay…okay…” she headed for the bathroom, but he jumped and blocked the door.

Tik: Undress here!” he smirked evilly, though he was still wobbling and dizzy.

Kob: “let me go to my to the bathroom…I’ll undress it there and bring back the gown, I would never steal it. She kept on a straight face, not wanting to show Tik that she was scared.

Tik: “You can’t get out of my sight! I want to know why you were flirting with that guy at the beach!” he shouted. He paced back and forth, trying to keep himself awake.

Kob: “I’m just engaged to you…not married. So let me have my fun.”

Tik: “You have dirty fun…How can you do it in front of me? How can you sit on his shoulders and let him hold onto your legs? How can you? You never let me do that!”

Kob smirked: “Huh…hey…you’re jealous” she laughed. “You’re cute when you’re jealous, it’s nice to see that side of you.”

Tik: “I don’t like what you have become,” he said sincerely.

Kob: “You’ve turned me like this” she accused Tik.

Tik: “I did not..!” he spun himself and faced Kob.

Kob gulped: “You’ve never admit to anything you do.” she stammer toward Tik, Tik feel down onto the bed.

Tik: “Can’t you see I’m trying to make up for what I have wrong you?”

Kob: “I don’t see any improvement. Why don’t you just be the way you are before...don’t try to be someone you are not. And stop drinking.” Tik pulled Kob down and pinned her to the bed.

Tik: “The person I was before was not me…it was a person full of hatred and revenge…it wasn’t the real me. By the way, I don’t drink.”

Kob: “What a lair. You wanted to marry me not out of hatred and revenge, you are a greedy person since the day I knew you, all you wanted was all of your father’s company. And as a bonus you torture me.”

Tik: “No…No...” he shook his head, confused and lost. “I wanted to marry you because…I’ve fallen in love with you. Money is not invovled. I’m sorry for pushing you and your family out of my father’s funeral, if I would have just listen then I wouldn’t have been this lost…” Tik released her hand and sat up with his face covered by his hand. “As long as you know I love you, as long as you know, I’m happy the way I am.” Kob raised herself from the bed and sat next to him.

Kob: “You shouldn’t used the word love that easily.”

Tik: “Right, love isn’t easy, that’s why I can not have you.”

With out warning, he laid his head on her lap and cuddle himself to sleep even before Kob could have opposed to his reaction. She brushed his hair back and lowered to kiss the side of his forhead. Then turned to look at the stars from the window near the mattress, watching them before they fade into the darkness.

Kob: “I believe I am falling for you too Tik” she whispered into the thin air. “But, to love someone, you only want the best for them.”

*In the morning*

Tik stretched his arms and legs as the sunrays came into the room. Whatever happen the night before he did not remember much, He does not understand why he had been having bad headache lately. Nong’Mai has been acting weird too, since he came she’s been treating him with some fresh cocunut juice, instead of feeling better after drinking it, he was always having bad headches and terrible dreams about his mother. All his thoughts flowed away when he heard voices outside.

Kob: “You must be kidding me?” she chortled back to the maid who brought her two red roses.

Maid: “Please ma’am, its ritual to have you received these roses.”

Kob: “I can’t accept it. I’m just going to be here for a short while.”

Tik: “It doesn’t matter how short or long you are going to stay on this island, whoever comes here has to recieve the roses.” He stood on the top steps and spoked strictly. Kob spun around to the direction of the voice.

Kob: “Red rose are symbolic and of importance. I can’t just take it without good reasonings.”

Maid: “Mr. Jessadaporn Pholdee!” she shockedly greeted him, she did not know of his arrival. Tik nodded hello and walked down the steps to Kob’s side. He reached out and accepted for the roses in place of Kob.

Tik: “I’m sorry for what my wife has done. I’ve should have told her about the ritual.”

Maid: “It’s no problem Mr. Jessadaporn Pholdee.”

Tik: “By the way, I’ve didn’t send anyone out to get me roses for my room. How did you know someone was here.”

Maid: “Nong’Mai ordered it kah.”

Tik: “Nong’Mai?” he stop to think for a bit. “Thank you, you may leave now.” The maid hurried to her jobs and left the couple alone. Tik turned to face Kob. “Are you going to accept these roses?”

Kob: “I’ve said before I won’t accept symbolic things without reasons.” She crossed her arms in front of her, she was bothered that the owner of the island was right in front of her eyes and she couldn’t point it out.

Tik: “Reasons? You are falling in love aren’t you?” Kob’s eyebrow lift as to knowing what the next thing out of Tik’s mouth would’ve been. “Yesterday you had a blast with your new lover, didn’t you?”

Chapter 16

Kob: “Yes it was fun…especially when you were drinking and out.”she said sarcastically.

Tik studied Kob’s body up and down and notice a mark on her neck. Her hair was tied back nicely revealing it.

Tik: “What the…!?” Kob froze thinking there was something behind her on her to have Tik hollar that loud. You let that guy neck you?” he paced toward her, Kob took a step back.

Kob: “Neck. What is neck?” she took a step back when he approached her.

Tik: “Neck…necking meaning that you let the other guys kiss across your whole neck and when they do that…they...um…” Tik didn’t want to explain further but he had to “They leave a mark on you neck as evidence that they have been licking all over you!”

Kob: “Oh…Tik...” she laughed. “Nah…it’s just a scar I had since a child.” She rubbed the back of her neck. Tik pulled her hand away and put his hand around one side of her neck and tiped it a side so he can see clearer of the mark.

Tik: “Sorry…I’ve mistaken…” Kob puffed her cheeks like a child.

Kob: “I wouldn’t let a person neck me, we don’t even know each other personally.” As her eyes contact with Tik’s, she knew he had on an admirably stare. His eyes were sternly focused on only her. Finally everything last night flash back to him.

Tik: “What did you mean by saying if you love someone you only want the best for them?” He could see the surprised look in her eyes. “Does that mean you’re going to leave me?” Kob took down his hand that was on her neck and walked behind him, watching the waves of the ocean, the blue creamy sky, and crystallized blue waters.

Kob: “I thought you were asleep when I said all those things.” She mubbled quietly, but he heard every word she said.

Tik: “Even if I am asleep or not, near or far, if you have said anything about having feeling for me, I will hear it. I will never miss the oportunity.” He took a glance at the roses in his hands. “The roses are sybolic for love. The ritual around here is easy, just pluck out these rose petals into the bowl of water in the room.”

Kob: “Why is this neccesary?”

Tik: “If there weren’t couples plucking these roses, there wouldn’t be a rose garden at the mansion. The existence of this island will be meaningless.”

Kob: “P’Tik is imaginative and romantic. I’m afriad this side will fade quickly when he remembers Kob Suvanant Kongying, is his enemy, his rival. Especially a pawn to get his money back.”

Tik: “You know about the contract?” he took a step closer to her, he regret for not keeping the contract hidden in a safer place.

Kob: “Why wouldn’t I know. As Jessadaporn’s wife I am entitle to know everything about you.”

Tik: “I don’t care what you think of the contract. But you need to know, it doesn’t mean anything to me.” He sighed. “Please get over this subject, if we don’t pluck these roses they are gong to die out, my garden is going to have an empty spot, and my heart will be torn apart.” He took Kob’s hand and leaded her back into the room.

Kob whispered to herself: “I’ll show you soon, what I meant by wanting the best for the one I love.” Tik whispered the same thing to himself.

When they reached the room, Tik slid the bowl to the middle of the table. And handed Kob one of the rose. This time around she accpeted the rose without hesitation. Both stood there, each taking turn to drop their petals into the water. The room was silent throughout the whole moment they shared together, standing side by side, secretly sneaking peeks at each other. When it came to the last petal, they both drop it in at the same time, the petals splashed into the water creating a soft ripple. The stems dropped onto the table top next to the bowl.

Tik: “Shh….” Kob was about to utter a word, but but he put a finger near her lips. Feeling Kob taking a step back, he slid his hand underneath her arms and around her waist, pulling her closer to his touch. Their eyes gazed at each other for a long time before he leaned close to her, his nose touching the tip of her nose. Their mouths were inches apart, their breaths crossed each other and brushed against each other’s skin. Both teased each other in their stares, waiting for the moment for whom ever couldn’t stand the temptation to be the first one who makes the first movement. Tik couldn’t endure the torture, he was begining to lean closer, Kob quickly place a finger in between their lips.

Kob: “You need to think clearly about the reason why you are doing this? If it really comes from your heart you can continue, if not, don’t push yourself.” She whispered. Tik took his eyes off of her, and thought for a second. Kob continued watching his expression, wanting to know his answered.

Tik’s answered came to her as swift as a bolt of lighting. His lips pressed against her, almost tipping her backward. Her eyes widen in astonishment, being unprepared for Tik’s kiss, but after his kiss became smoother she slowly closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around him. After a brief moment Tik loosen the kiss.

Tik: “I want you to attend a ceremony tonight, after that I have something to give to you.” He murmured quietly into her ear. Kob nodded and snuggled against his chest.

*During the late afternoon. They headed back to the mansion. Both went their seperate ways*

Tik was in a room and yelling at Nong’Mai for putting drugs in his drinks. Nong’Mai defended herself, by saying it was only for his own good. She only wanted Tik to show his feelings toward Kob, since she notice Tik’s truthful side only came when he’s asleep. Since Tik and Kob were getting along well, he forgave Nong’Mai, but warn her if it ever happen again she was going to get fired.

Kob walked through the hallway and saw some servants trying to put up a picture.

Kob: “Can I help?” the servant saw that Kob was small in weight and tall so they agreed to let her help. Kob stepped on the small chair, and lifted herself onto the drawer that was mid-waist. Kob held onto the picture and nails in the corners. The nail on the right side of the picture wouldn’t go into the wall so she raised the hammer and was going to smack it in. “I will make you go into the wall…” she nagged at it while she aimed for the nail. “One…Two…Three…” she banged into the nail really hard, the nail went in, but left Kob wobbling off the drawer. Kob couldn’t control her balance and trembled off.

Maids: “Mrs. Jessadaporn Pholdee!” they all screamed and held their hands out to catch her.

Kob: “Ahh!” she screamed when she felt herself going through thin air.

After a couple of seconds of silence she didn’t feel any pain, somewhat she felt a hard cushion underneath her. She spread her hand from her face and through the fingers she peeked out.

Kob: “Am I …am I in heaven?” she repeatedly thought to herself. But as she uncovered her face she saw Tik’s looking down at her. “Tik kah…?” she wonder what he was doing there.

Tik: “Is there a problem here…?” he wonder why the maids were staring at them.

Maids: “Nothing boss kah” Kob tried to get herself down, but Tik wouldn’t let her go.

Kob: “Tik, put me down, my weight must be killing you” she spoke nervously.

Tik: “Weight?” he laughed. “Yes…you’re so heavy…what do you eat all day, you weight like a hundred ton pig” he joked.

Kob: “Then let me down” she said softly but harshly.

Tik: “Oh ho. Suvanant, you can’t even take a joke. You don’t even weight much” he leaned closer to her ear and whisper “Compare you to a feather you’re lighter than it.”

Kob hid her eyes from him. The maids was glued to the lovely dovey scene in front of them, Tik noticed them staring at them and gave out a loud coughed.

Tik: “Ahem! Don’t you have anything better to do than stand here all day?” his eyes signing for the servants to leave him alone with Kob.

Kob: “Hey wait up, wait” she called to them when she saw them running off. She turned to eye Tik, and once again tried to get down. Kob can see in his eyes that he will not let her down, but she persisted him to let her down. “Tik let me down please. What will the maids think of us now…” she shook her head, trying to make an excuse. Tik raised her higher to him, her arms quickly went around Tik’s neck, afraid that Tik might drop her.

Tik: “Auy. They won’t think anything of us because umm...” he twirl her around once, making Kob hold on to him tighter. Tik had a broad smile. “Um…”

Kob: “Um.. What? Tell me.” She nudged him in the chest.

Tik: “Because you’re my wife.”

Kob: “But what will happen if they found out we weren’t married yet?”

Tik: “Eh. To me being engaged is almost the same thing as being married” he begin to carry her toward the stairs.

Kob: “What do you think would happen if I told them the truth? You know for sure they won’t feel they same way you do.”

Tik: “No way. You can’t tell them.”

Kob: “Oh…Tik do have fears” she giggled.

Tik carried her and walked down the stairs slowly so they won’t fall down. They maids kept their eyes attention to the couple. It had been a long time since they’ve seen Tik acting so lively.

Kob: “When are you going to put me down?”

Tik: “It’s going to be awhile till I let you down.”

Kob: “That means your not going to let me down?” Tik continued carrying her downstair. “Tik let me down now, everyone’s looking.” her face begun to blush when she noticed the maids looking on.

Tik: “This is fun. We’re in center of attention” he glance at the maids, they didn’t notice his stare. “I have an idea.”

Kob: “Idea…?”

Tik: “Come closer…” Kob tip her head and listen to Tik so she can hear what he was saying. He plucked a kiss on Kob’s cheek, then letting Kob down. She was speechless when she stared at him and touched her cheek. He soon called a maid over and asked her if their clothing had arrived. “Kob, our clothing has arrived, we better get dress and get ready for the ceremony.”

Chapter 17

When Kob arrived in Tik’s room everything was layout for her to wear. An exquisite traditional beige Thai Chakri shoulderless top, along sided with a Thai Reun Ton, a dress that comprises a horizontally striped brocade silk pasin which is folded to one side. She heard Tik calling in a hurried voice when she was pulling her hair into a tight bun and tieing on a black band. She hadn’t gotten her shoes on yet and Tik was already rushing her. She quickly searched around the room for her shoes, briskly remembered that she didn’t see any shoes when she arrived. Kob walked downstairs shoeless, when she reached Tik she notice he was buttoning his his shirt. He too wore a traditional attire. A wool beige shirt and a perfect level pant. When he raised his head to see who the person walking toward him was, he was in awe.

Tik: “You look beautiful in anything you wear.” He watches her as she walked toward him. Her thighs tighten in the dress, when she walked he could see her every curve. The shoulderless Chakri top came down to her belly and tighten over her chest, also uncovering her broad shoulder.

Kob: “You gave me clothing, but most importance of all, you didn’t get me shoes? Next time, I should be aware and do my own shopping.” She sat herself on the sofa and caught her breath.

Tik: “I would never forget anything. The sandles are outside.” Kob saw a dok mai flower on the table in a plate and picked it up to smell the scent of it. The rose petals white and the border inside shaded in yellow.

Kob: “Tik, You know not much men know about the women’s size in clothing and footware. Why do you know so much about mines?”

Tik: “Maybe it’s because I pay more attention to you than any other guys would to their girlfriends or wife.” He took the flower from Kob’s hand and helped her to her feet. As they both reached the door and put their sandles on, he stopped her, clipped the dok mai flower into the black band that held Kob’s bun.

When they arrived at the beach, it was already dark, and lanterns were lighted all over the poles. Tik and Kob walked formally down the pathway and into the beach, where other couples were dancing in their traditonal outift. On a little outdoor bench near the dancing area, a band played a traditional instrumental song, using the classical Kong Wong Yai, Kim, Ranad Ek, and Jarake instruments. The song played smoothly as both enter the passionate atmosphere.

Kob: “Is this ceremony a part of your get away plan?”

Tik: “Of course” his smile was light-hearted. His steps fastened when they were about to reach the sand. He hinted her to take off her sandle, she slided it off as well as he did. He walked on the sand first. Putting one hand behind him and one in front of him, he bowed to her like a gentleman. Opened his palm and lended a hand forward. Kob placed her hand over his and walked onward with him into the crowd.

The cozy sand submerged underneath their toes as they danced. His hand went around her waist, and her arm rested on his arm as their other handclasps together. Both gazed at each other as the moonlight shined and the stars sparkled above their heads. The cool breeze blew lightly and peacefully. The waves rolled back and forth causing a sound like the shore was breaking. Also having the musical played radiantly along side each other made the night a mystical scene.

Tik: “Only if I can turn back time. Kob Suvanant Kongying. Changed everything I’ve done, everything would have been better.” Kob raised a finger to his lips to stop him from speaking further.

Kob: “Do not think such nonsense, Tik Jessadaporn Pholdee. Life is like a waterfall that only knows how to drift downward, what is done is done and cannot be fixed. If you look back you’ll see, if you turned back time, there wouldn’t be today, there wouldn’t be me standing by your side, this night, this very moment, this very second.”

Tik: “True. But...” Kob raised her finger to his lips again.

Kob: “Do not speak anymore. Let’s cherished this moment in our hearts.” She continued dancing but turned her head to the side, avoiding his eyes. She did not want him to see her saddness, as she felt like shedding a tear. Once she takes a step off the island, the tender moments she shared with Tik will soon be a mere dream.

Tik: “What you had said was true, but right now I only had recieved your physcial being, I’m not entirely the owner of your heart.” He sighed quietly to himself. “But it is good that I haven’t decieved you. You really deserved better than a person like me.” After a second, he shut his thoughts, and cherished moment as they danced into the midnight.

As night fall, the couples were already in their huts. Kob sat on the stairs of their hut and looked as the moon and stars were beginning to perish. Tik had just walked out of the doork with a red-voilet blanket in hand.

Tik: “It’s not good to stare into the moonlight, you might get blind.” He covered her bare shoulder with the blanket and sat next to her.

Kob: “The moon and stars look brighter here than in the city.”

Tik: “Really?” He put his hands together and created a triangle gap, viewing the sky, observing it if it was true or not. But his little gap soon viewed Kob’s direction. “The stars here are really brighter than in the city.”

Kob: “Stop joking” she embarrassly smacked his hand down.

Tik: “I really mean it” he slowly leaned forward a kiss Kob’s forhead, she closed her eyes as his kiss impact her skin, then opened her eyes once his kiss was gone. Tik went back to his sitting position next to Kob and gave out a little shudder. She wanted to laugh at him, he was cold but wanting to be outside with her, he’s pretending he wasn’t freezing. Kob opened the blanket and putting one side around Tik’s shoulder, wrapping both of them. “I don’t need it.” He reclined.

Kob: “Don’t lie.” She tighter the blanket around them by closing herself into Tik’s body, she wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her head in his chest. He could feel her heat overcoming him and giving him warmth. He responded by wrapping his arms around her shoulder, and scoot closer to her. There was something he wanted to give to Kob, but he had hidden it, since it wasn’t the right time to give.

He uttered a word to Kob, but she didn’t respond. When he turned to see her, she was soundless asleep, and her grip had loosened. He leaned back and purposely gave Kob a good sleeping position on him. All he could do was memorize the night, as to what was going to happen tommorrow he couldn’t imagine.

***The next morning***

Kob woked up rubbing her eyes, and found the hut empty. The flower bowl was also empty only fill with water. After patting her face dry, she walked outside and saw Tik walking along the shore. She ran along side him, but notice he was tyring to ignore her.

Kob: “Did something happen yesterday? Are you mad?” she was trying to get a good look at Tik, but he hid his expression.

Tik: “Just leave me alone. Go have fun.”

Kob: “I won’t leave you alone until you tell me what’s bothering you.” Tik walked on without her, as she stood behind him and yelled at him. “Don’t give me the slient treatment.” He still walked on and did not listen to any word she had said. “If I did anything wrong just tell me.” Tik was a feet away from her when he turned to his direction. His face as upset as ever.

Tik: “It’s that problem, you never do anything wrong, that’s what bothering me. You’re always right.”

Kob: “I never showed myself to be that kind of a person. I’ve never said I was alway right or pointed out I was alway right.”

Tik: “Your eyes says it all. You’re perfect, you never do anything wrong.”

Kob: “Shut up!” She screamed, she knew Tik was faking his anger, but she wasn’t expecting Tik to give her the bad treatment that soon. She had already arrange Captain to bring the marriage papers so everything Tik is rightful to would be given back to him, and they would live seperate lives after the signature of the paper. Though she wanted to spend time with Tik before leaving, never thinking his evil side would merge back. She only wanted happiness for him before leaving. “I’m not perfect at all. Tell me, would a perfect person do this....” she backward into the ocean.

Tik: “Suvanant …stay where you are right now” he warned her.

Kob: “Would a perfect person let herself and her expensive clothing wet?” She backed further into the ocean, the waves were coming to her knee soaking her dress. “Would a perfect person have feeling for a criminal?” She snatched the band off her hair, letting her hair to flow down quickly into the breeze. As the band ripped off the dok mai flower fell into the flower, getting carried along the harsh waves. “Don’t try to stop me” she pointed a finger at him as she notice him taking small steps forward. “Don’t stop me!” she screamed as she ran deeper into the ocean.

Tik ran after her swiftly, Kob knew of his action and dodged his catch, making him fall face first into the water. She backed off to shore where the water came to her knees, while Tik got himself to surface and wiped the water off his face.

Kob: “The water must have cool your anger off.” She laughed hysterically.

The morning mist was fading and the sun was shinning throughout the sky. Tik hit his hand into the surface of the water splashing water at Kob. She tried to block the water off, but it was too much, she closed her eyes and splashed water back at him. Her action halted when she felt Tik grasping her arm. He dragged her out of the water onto shore, she tried to get his hands off her wrist but he wouldn’t budge and kept pulling her onto shore. Kob put her leg forward, tripping Tik, but along with him falling he pulled her down with him. Kob feel on the cushion of the soft sand, while Tik laid ontop of her, his faces inch from her, starring into her glittering eyes as water dripped down his face.

Tik: “It would be best, if we parted for awhile.” He clutched his hands aside her, and got up. Kob sat up and watches as he dissapear into the distance. Tik drag his feet along when he got into the mansion. All night long he thought to himself if what he did was the right thing to do.

Chapter 18

That day Kob spent the day alone in the hut. Until somewhere about nine o’clock, Nong’Mai came into her hut, in her hands were the clothing she had wore when Tik took her on his boat. The clothing brought alot of memories to her.

Nong’Mai: “Please tell me why all of a sudden you and Tik decided to parted, I’ve seen a spark between you two, and you two can go further than this.” As she spoke, she could tell Kob was paying attention to the clothing in her hand. “P’Kob kah?” Her words some how awoken Kob.

Kob: “You’ve seen us? Hah. I knew someone was watching our relationship.” She grabbed the clothing and placed it down on the table.
Nong’Mai: “I wanted you two to get along, that’s all.”

Kob: “You can’t force love on a person, it will come naturally.” She fumbled with the clothing. “Just like the feeling you have for Sampope, but you don’t understand yet.”

Nong’Mai: “But...”

Kob: “That’s enough. You should get going, I suppose Sampope is waiting for you.”

The girl left without another question. Kob slid the diamond ring on her marriage finger and threw it on the bed sheets as herself too, fell on the bed. She turned to look at the ring that lay motionless by her side. Tik slept in his bed and watches the ceiling, Kob slept in the lonely bed. Both talked to themselve as if they were speaking to each other.

Tik: “Everything is too soon. Give me more time.”

Kob: “Time isn’t waiting for us, it’s ticking as we speak.”

Tik and Kob: “Let the time go by and we’ll let faith decide.”

It was midnight, Kob couldn’t sleep at all, she was tossing and turning over the bed. She finally got up and put the diamond ring on one more time. Reaching for the drawer and took out the contract that she had hidden from Tik, and another piece of paper attach to it.

Kob: “Thank you Captain, for forging Tik’s signature onto this marriage paper. Things are better this way Tik. Now you can have your way and I can have my way.

***The next morning***

Kob had called Sampope to pick her up early that morning and take her to the mansion. The sun wasn’t fully out of the horizon yet, she knew no one would be awaken. She sneaked quietly into Tik’s room, as she got in she could see his large body over crowding the bed, sleeping soundessly. Grabbing the mosquito net and the beads and tied them to the pole of the bed, that way when he woke up he wouldn’t be bother by it. She sat herself down by his side, and stroke face. She leaned down resting her head on his chest, and listen to his heart beat.

Kob: “Though I admit having feeling for you, but at the same time there’s something about you that I dislike. Marriage will be a title but won’t mean anything to me.”

Tik jerked himself to a sitting postion, sweats pour down his face, fear surrounded him all over. He took a look around the room, thinking he had just dreamed. He removed the blanket from his lap and got up, trying to forget the scene.

During the morning Nong’Mai came knocking on Tik’s door just as he finished dressing up.

Nong’Mai: “Tik! We can’t find Kob anywhere,” she said concernedly.

Tik: “Good.” He said in a careless tone.

Nong’Mai: “Why do you say that? Aren’t you worry about her?”

Tik: “I’ve told her to go home, and she obeyed me, that’s good.”

Nong’Mai: “I don’t know what’s up with you two. I thought you two loved each other.

Tik: “Our love was a mistake!” He shouted as he turned toward the window and ripped the curtain open so he could view his rose garden.

Nong’Mai: “Mistake? That I don’t care if it’s mistake or not, but things are meant for each other, I hope you fix your mistakes. But as of now, Kob’s gone and you should go look what she left behind for you.”

Tik: “I don’t really care, I don’t want to see the hut, I might as well have it torn away.”

Nong’Mai: “There’s marriage paper in there as long as your wedding ring!”

Tik: “What?”

Nong’Mai: “Go look for yourself.”

Tik took a long moment to think before rushing outside and driving back to the beach. When he reach there, it full of couples having fun, he walked past them casually, but once getting out of their sight he quickly went into the hut. Though he found emptiness he could still feel Kob’s scent as if she just left the room. The wind swirl in flinging the mosquito net that hanged from the bed. Full of coldess filled the room as he walked toward the table where there was dok mai flowers floating around, and a black shadow in the dept of the bowl. He reached down for it, seperating the flowers aside. His heart beat faster as he rosed the thing to his view, his wedding ring. To the side of the bowl, Kob’s traditional clothing laid down with a piece of paper underneath the clothing.

His eyes as hard as a boulder as he read the papers. Kob was really there with him that morning. He wanted to tear the paper apart, but his hands wouldn’t move, they’ve had tighten themselve on the paper. He did not like the fact that Kob had used the marriage paper as a debt to repay him. A debt for her freedom, was he all a joke to her?

Kob walked a long way before she reached the dock. She massaged her legs while she sat, waiting for Captain to pick her up. She looked into the horizon and saw a boat with a little girl and grown women. As the boat came closer she recognize them. She stood up immediately and waved to them. “Hey.Little Ploy! Aom! I’m right here!” Suddenly someone twisted her hands and pulled her out of sight. Covering her mouth with a chemical cloth. She struggle but the chemical scent was too strong and she had already inhale too much of it. The sky suddenly faded into darkness.

Tik ran to the dock and couldn’t find Kob anywhere; though he spotted captain, Aom, and little Ploy getting off a boat. He had no choice but to ran up to them. He pulled Captain toward him.

Tik: “I’m going to have a big talk with you, but for now have you see Kob anywhere?” he whispered to him.

Captain: “Hey! I thought she was with you.” Aom rushed to the two guys.

Aom: “Damn…Tik.What have you done to my sister!” Captain pulled her away.

Captain: “Calm down honey” he says as he cuddled her. Captain whispered to Tik. “There’s a phone call from the police inside the boat, they wanted to talk to you” Tik rushed inside the boat and picked up the phone.

Tik: “Hello”

Cop: “Is this Mr. Pondee?”

Tik: “Yes it is.” he said breathlessly.

Cop: “There is a tape that has recently been sent to us associating with you and Kob, turn on your screen, I’ll connect through…” Tik did as he was told, and turned on Captain’s laptop.

On the screen showed a hospital and a woman screaming “Please! Please don’t take my face away!”

Tik: “Mother!” he gasps. The tape continued on, another lady came in laughing and said “Too bad Mrs. Pondee now I’m going to be Mrs. Pondee, I’m going to teach your son to hate. Once he gets Kongying’s share. I’m gonna get everything from him. I’m going to be rich, I’m going to be superior” the lady laughed and laughed. The Cop stops the tape because further on was painful.

Cop: “The mysterious women, she is your fathers ex-wife. When your real mother died you father knew already, he had done a private funeral for her. After her death your father became awared, he had transfer the shares to you and Kob, making it harder for the women to steal the money. So she preyed on Mr. Kongying, but find out that he had combine his shares with your father. Your father died of a heart attack, because he was struggling with the women when she took Mr. Kongying at gun point. She had kept Kongying this long so he would change the inheritance into your mothers name, but he did not cooperate. Now she is locating you two to recieved the money. She is not working along. You two are in great danger” he worriedly stated. “I’m sorry Tik. My name is Captain Veerapapee, just newly assigned to this task and recently found evidence.”

Tik: “How did you know about this?”

Cop: “Mr. Kongying has been found dead Tik. Mr. Kongying had all the evidence. After all he is a smart person. He had kept secret files hidden underneath tables and counters and enter codes that only we could read.” His voice was calm. “Don’t worried, I’ll send cops over, don’t take any action until we get there”

Kob opened her eyes and found herself in a warehouse, it stink like an storage place, and the atmosphere was really dark. Out of no where came a familiar face.

Women: "You’re as stupid as your father.”

Kob: “Mrs. Pondee?” she gaps. Kob was confused.

Women: “I’m not Mr. Pondee, I may have the face, but I am never like that weak women.”

Kob: “Who are you?”

Women: “You don’t have to know me, you’re not even going to live that long to remember my name. I’ve come to get the money I have been lingering for all these years” she laughed.

Kob: “I have nothing to give you.”

The women stopped laughing and grab Kob’s hair. “You have everything I want!” she yelled. “You have my money, the money I’ve supposed to have stole…you and Tik took it…all of it…!” she slapped Kob. “Damn you two brats…if it wasn’t for you two I would have my money…!” Kob fell to the floor as the women pushed her, sitting down and touching her cheek that just got slapped.

Women: “I’ve should have stayed with Tik…if I’ve known that he hated you this much…I would have stayed and waited for him to take all the belongings in his grip…then take it from him…” she thought out loud. “Everything was too quick, I’ve shouldn’t have changed my plans. “I’ve grown older waiting for you two to grow up you know” she angrily came toward Kob and slapped her again, but this time Kob grabbed hold of her hand and slap her back.

Kob: “You are a cowardless women.”

Women: “Stupid child. I’ve seen the marriage papers already. Once your out of the way I’ll just tell Tik that you ran away with one of your boyfriend, out of anger he’ll take what is his. Once he gets back all his money I’ll take it away from him. He’ll be pleased to see his mother back. A child always needs a mother’s love. Once I’m back he’ll hang on to me as I pleased. That is what a child would do for his long lost mother” she laughed evilly. “I’ve took his mother’s face and he wouldn’t know the difference.”

Kob: “You’re a hurtful women…” Kob murmured. “You think having Tik’s mother’s face will make Tik please you and do whatever you said. He’s not as dumb as you think” Kob gave in a chuckled even though she was afraid. “You’ll will get what you deserve soon. You heartless women.” The women charged toward Kob but stopped when she heard a loud bang. The women turned her sight away from Kob, giving Kob a chance to run. As she ran half way toward the door a guy wearing a black suit and mask blocked her way.

Women: “Do whatever you want with that child. Sooner or later she’s going to die. Enjoy her while you can!” She laughed joyfully as she left the room.

Kob: “Let me go you prevert. You damn beast.” she jerked herself out of his hold and ran, but the guy paced after her.

“Don’t even think of doing anything to me” she said backing away. He quickly grabbed Kob as she tried to run, he turned her back toward his chest and cover her mouth. Kob tired to scream under the hand but it did not get out.

Guy: “Shh. Quiet Kob.” The guy whispered in her ear. One of his hand caresses down Kob’s cheek. He dragged her out of the big room and planned to take her into the basement where there was a matress. While dragging her into it he met two man. “Guard the door for me will you…hahaha…” he laughed as he jerked Kob toward him his hand pressing against Kob’s stomach. “I’ll give her to you after I have a little fun!” he laughed evilly and went to the little basement bed. Locking the door behind him.

Inside the room, he pushed Kob onto the bed; but she immediately got up glaring at the man who stood across from her.

“Don’t come near me!” she screamed. “Stop it!” she screamed as the man quickly jumped across and grabbed hold of her. The two men outside laughed as they heard her screaming.

“Shhh!!!” the men yelled as he jerk her back toward his chest. And rocked her back and forth, while one of his hand coverd her mouth. She could feel his breath brushed her neck as he talked. “Promised me you’ll be quiet if I let you go” Kob nodded and he slid his hand away from Kob’s mouth.

Kob: “Help me...Help me.anyone!” she shouted and stomped on the guys foot. While the man moans in pain and jumped up and down holding his feet Kob slid the mask off.

Kob: “KHUN!? YOU!?” her jaw dropped. In one out of ten people would she would ever thought it will be him. The men pulled Kob back into his arms and covered her mouth once again, squeezing her arm and holding her tight.

Guy: “Sh…Kob...they’ll know...” he murmured quietly to her as she struggled free.

Kob: “What are you doing here Tik?” she whispered from afar.

Tik: “I’m here to help you of course”

Kob: “When did you get here. And how did you know they brought me here?”

Tik: “You know there’s only a store on this beach, and the owner has many customers. I was able to ask him if he saw anything suspicious. Obviously there’s no other mysterious place other than this old storage house. I’ve just got here when you bumped into me” he humbly spoke to Kob. “The lady even invited me to enjoy you, so I did as she asked” he joked.

Kob: “How are you doing, knowing that during some point you were living with a fake mother?”

Tik: “If she wants my mother’s face then let her live with it. All I care about is my mother’s heart and her love, her face doesn’t matter to me.”

Kob: “You shouldn’t have come here, I could suffer alone.”

Tik: “After all you are my wife, so if you suffer I suffer.” He walked to her side “Shhh...don’t make them suspicious” he was going to cover her mouth but she moved her head and eyeing him not to or she’ll bite his hand. He paused and stood next to her, quietly. Suddenly he stomped his feet. “You whore!” he dragged Kob toward the wall and punched the wall next to her, then ran to the table and knock down the things. He turned to Kob, and twitched his eyes at her. Kob turned away.

Kob: “AHHH….hmmm….mmmm…let me go….!Ah…my shirt! Don’t …please don’t…” she yelled and acted like she was crying, she pretend to sob. It was pretty convincing to the guys outside, and it even made Tik surprised.

Kob: “Why are we doing this.” she whispers in Tik’s ear.

Tik: “We’re waiting for Vee’s signal..”

Kob: “Why should we?”

Tik: “Because I don’t have a gun and there are two guys with guns outside of our door. And also two outside of this ware house…plus that old lady…” Tik let out a puff.

Suddenly a loud bang inside the little room startled them both, Kob and Tik heard gunshots and yelling. But in a second all the noises stopped. The door barged opened, Tik quickly covered Kob from the dust.

Vee: “Ahem…” he coughed waiting for Tik to let go of Kob, since he was still holding on to her.

Tik: “Vee…finally.”

Vee: “Sorry…we’re a little late…” Vee lead Kob and Tik out of the storage house.

Outside the police were checking out the storage house and taking the criminals into the police cars.

Kob: “What is actually going on here?” she spoked to Vee.

Vee: “It’s a long story, I’ll send you a report when I’m done.”

Kob: “Send it to me in England.”

Vee: “England?” he stared at her and wiped the dirt off her cheek. Tik watch from afar as the two talked. When he saw Vee wiping the dirt off of Kob’s cheek he rushed toward them.

Tik: “Ahem…” he coughed and got their attention. “Excuse me” he pretend to go through them and to the other side to talk to the other police.

Kob: “I’m going” Vee quickly took hold of her hand.

Vee: “You can’t go yet…it’s still dangerous. We don’t know if we got all of the criminals yet.”

Kob removed Vee’s hand: “Eh. Don’t be too worried. With all the wealth of Tik and the brain of his, everything will be alright. He’ll handle all of this…and…thanks Vee…thanks for saving my life…”

Vee: “But…I wasn’t the one…” Kob eyed him, making him kept quiet. “I wasn’t the one who actually save you” he murmured to himself and scratching his neck.

Kob left the crime scene and walked off to find Aom. Tik finally turned to look where Kob and Vee was once standing and only saw Vee.

Tik: “Where’s Kob?”

Vee: “Ow…she left.”

Tik: “Why didn’t you stop her!?” Tik ran off to find Kob.

Vee: “Wait up…” Tik left him on the scene. “Why give me the hard time?” he sighed.

Kob wondered off looking around her for Aom or Captain. “Sister Su!” Kob heard a familiar voice calling her. From a distance she saw little Ploy running toward her. She ran to her and hugged her.

Kob: “Aww…. How I miss you…. I miss so much.” she said pinching Ploy’s cheeks. Not long Aom and Captain ran toward her.

Captain: “Little Ploy you’re too fast” he leaned down breathing fast.

Little Ploy: “hehe…” she giggled. Captain’s cell phone ranged, when he answered his face went paled.

Captain: “Krap…krap…all right. We’ll be there as soon as possible!” he closed the phone and rushed Kob, Aom, and little ploy to the boat where they headed back home. Kob looked toward the island as they boat set off.

“No sign of Tik anywhere…” Kob thought. Suddenly a figure came running appear to be searching everywhere, running everywhere, Kob knew for sure it was Tik trying to find her. She smiled. But her smile faded when she remembers the contract. She quickly hid herself. Tik saw nothing but a boat setting off. He couldn’t find Kob anywhere. Kob’s heart torn apart as the boat went further and further.

Kob: “Take care Tik” she whispered into the ocean.

Chapter 20

*Three years later*

Kob on her cell phone: “I’ve already arrived at the airport where are you guys at?” Kob smiled and smelt the air as it’s been three years since she left Thailand. Going to handle Captain’s business in England. Since everything was settle in the company she decided to come back.

Captain: “We’re coming. We’re coming” he said in his cell phone as they waited in the car, stuck in the slow traffic. He closed his cell phone and honked at the cars. “Darn these cars.” He whined while Aom sat next to him and little Ploy sat in the back seat.

Aom: “Captain! Mind your tongue” she warned him, hinting that little Ploy was sitting in the back, even though they weren’t married yet, they acted like a married couple.

Captain: “Sorry Aom. Sorry little Ploy.”

After a couple of hours Kob sat in a restaurant in the airport and sipped a fruit juice she had order. She was anticipating to see Aom and little Ploy. Tik parked his car near the entrance of the airport building and ran inside. Having been inform of Captain’s secret partner that had worked in England for three years, he wanted to know who she was, and why did Captain trust her to handle the business.

Kob dragged her suitcase out and walked toward the exit. She was searching for her sisters, thinking if she should just take a cab home. As she was heading out of the exit, a quick jerk sent her into the floor. Tik was rushing himself and didn’t take the time to apologize to the women he bumped. He noticed the figure had look familiar and try to take another look at it. When Kob got to her feet, she slightly turned her head to find the person who bumped into her. But a crowd of people was pushing in and out, taking her out of the building as the door close behind.

Tik: “Kob?” he yelled. Kob heard someone calling her but did not know which direction it came from and the voice was in a low pitch. She dragged things out and waited outside. Tik thought that he might have been a look alike so he continued what he was doing. He walked to the counter and asked if Captain Puthanate’s business partner had arrived. The lady told him the person had arrived already, hours ago. He wanted to make sure she was talking about the right person and asked her alot of questions.

Little ploy: “Sister Su. Sister Su…” she called as she saw Kob about to get into a cab.

Kob: “Little Ploy” she smiled joyfully the moment she embraced her.

Aom: “Kob! What have you done to yourself?” she said curiously as she walked to her. “You haven’t age a bit. You look amazing.” she laughed. Both the three girls hugged and laughed.

Captain: “I’m feeling a little bit lonely here” he said with a sad expression.

Kob: “Aww. My soon to be brother in law” she went over and gave Captain a pat on the shoulder.

Captain: “We better get going. It’s getting late.” he rushed the three girls to the car, even though they had so much to tell each other.

***That Night***

Kob: “How’s gramps doing?”

Aom: “Now that you mention, he’s a bit upset that you and Tik made an marriage license without telling him. But Tik explained everything.”

Kob: “Explain? What did he explain to gramps?” she quickly leaned over.
Aom: “Gramps didn’t give me any details.” Captain came in having a cup of coffee in hand, sitting next to Aom.

Captain: “How’s the business in England. The last time I check it was so urgent I had to send you over, I hope it wasn’t too much for you to handle.”

Kob: “They business is doing great, don’t stress over it. I’ve gotten little training done so I knew what I was up for.”

Captain: “Thank you for lending in a helping hand.”

Kob: “It’s no problem, sooner or later we’re going to be in laws” Aom nudge Kob for saying such words.

***Dinner Time***

Aom placed the food on the table, while Captain was laughing at Kob’s jokes. “Since when did you know how to joke?” she asked curiously.

Kob: “Sorry Aom, it just became a hobby now. When I first arrived in Captain’s business all the workers where depress and sad. So I had to be the clown of the business and also be serious at the same time.” Mentioning about the business she remembers she had not asked of Tik’s company. “How is the business here doing?”

Captain: “Do you mean Tik’s company?” curiously he eyed Kob.

Kob: “Ahem. Of course.”

Captain: “Everything’s going great. There’s just one problem.”

Kob: “What kind of problem? If it’s a big one don’t get me involved.” she joked.

Captain: “I need to give you something” he took out his check book.

Kob: “Hey. What are you doing!?”

Captain: “Writing you a check for helping run my business. I would be a bad boss if I don’t pay my workers.”

Kob: “I’m not taking it. You taking care of my two sisters had already been enough. I can’t accept that” she snatched Captain’s pen.

Aom: “Yeah. Who do you think Kob is? A money hogger?” she slap Captain’s head.

Captain: “Ouch. Sorry. I should have known better” he rubbed his forehead to get the sting out. “I was just joking, I was really going to write a check for little Ploy’s schooling…sheesh.”

Both Kob and Aom walked near Captain’s side and twisted his ear. He screamed in pain, while they said he deserved it. They all laughed as little Ploy came down.

Little Ploy: “Phone for you P’Captain. He want to know about your company in England.”

Captain: “You mind taking that call?”

Kob: “Of course not.” She walked up the stairs to Captain’s office “Sawasdee kah. This phone call is about Captain Puthanate’s business in England?”

Tik: “I’ve said I wanted to talk to Captain Puthanate, not a servant.”

Kob: “Sorry. But at the moment Captain is busy.” She noticed she heard the voice before, but she couldn’t figure it out. It’s been a long time and Tik’s voice had become deeper and serious.

Tik: “Then I’ll call him later” he was about to hang up the phone, when the women on the other line told him to wait.

Kob: “Wait. If you’re calling to talk about the business in England, I’ll talk to you about it. I’ve managed if for three years.”

Tik: “A women like you? Captain sent you over there to do his job?” he mocked. “

Kob: “Sorry. But Captain sent me over to do a serious job, you’re a partner to him, you should know he’s smarter than he looks.”

Tik: “Alright. Just tell me how the business is doing.”

After a long hour of talking on the phone, even if the woman on the other line was talking about serious business work, Tik didn’t pay attention to a word she had said, instead he was listening to her voice.

Kob: “That’s it. Tomorrow I’ll send someone to send you the files for these passes three years. If there’s more information I’ll let you know. Bye.” she hanged up the phone. For the long hour Tik didn’t get to say a thing.

Tik: “What kind of women did captain hired?” he thought as he let out a sigh. Just as Kob turned her back Captain appeared near the door, causing her to take a sudden jump.

Kob: “Gosh. Don’t sneak behind me like that. Do you want me to have a heartattack?”

Captain: “Sorry. I just came up to keep you update on things that has been happening here for the years you had been gone.”

Kob: “Okay. Speak up.” Kob sat herself on the chair, ready to hear anything Captain had to say.

Captain: “Um. I don’t know if I should tell you this or not.”

Kob: “Just tell me, if it’s something I need to know then tell me, don’t hide anything from me.”

Captain: “When you left to England, Tik had given you a spot at his cooporation. You being legal his wife, he had go give you a good spot.”

Kob: “In other words, he had been waiting for me?” She told Captain, since she saw his serious face. Captain did not answer. “I’ll give him his interest and then leave him. Make sure you finish that divorce paper before the end of this week.” She said without any sympathy, her tone as strict as a businessperson. Captain was begining to regret his decision, letting Kob go to England in the first place.

Captain: “Life isn’t like business, you should think before whatever you do.”

Kob: “Who are you to tell me what to do!” she quickly yelled without noticing her voice had raised. Captain was in shocked, the girl who always played joyful had dissapeared. When Kob saw his expression of horror, she lowered her voice. “I’m sorry Captain, I didn’t mean to raise my voice at you.”

Captain: “I just want you to rethink your decision, work with Tik and see how it turn out, you’ll be suprise.”

Kob: “Fine. I’ll see how it turn out.” She was tried of problems now, the sooner she gets rid of the problem the better it would be.

Aom: “Kob do you remember how nice Tik’s father was to us, though I was still small I remembered, we have to hold our father’s friendship you know.”

Kob: “Alright, enough of your convincing words. Make sure you find me an office in that building and don’t let it be closed to Tik…AND…don’t let him know that I’m working in the coorporation.”

Aom and Captain: “That’s impossible!”

Kob: “I’ll have to face him sooner or later” she thought. “Alright then, just find me a office that’s not close to Tik.”

Captain: “I can do that, but I can’t garantee the results.”

Aom: “OH! What about us going to the park tomorrow. It’ll relax you Kob.”

Kob: “I don’t feel like going anywhere at all.”

Aom: “Come on, go get some fresh air and get to know Bangkok again.”

Captain: “She’s right, you need to adapt to Bangkok again.”

Kob agreed and slept that night at Captain’s mansion. Picturing herself meeting Tik again brought a chill through her spine.

Chapter 21

*Next Morning: At the park. Almost nine o’clock*

Both Aom and Captain wore casual out door clothing as they bike ride with little Ploy around the park. Kob wore a gray top with a towel hanging down from her neck, a sweat pant that she pulled up to her knee to get breezes as she ran. At the sight of Captain, little Ploy, and Aom riding their bikes away she called to them.

Kob: “Be careful you guys!” she yelled out as they all rode their bikes away. They had invited her to ride bikes with them, but Kob rather jogged and viewed the city she left for three years. Kob jogged through the park until she stopped at a bench and sat there drinking her ice cold water she had in hand. She took a look into the sky and realize it was going to be dark soon, also thinking that Bangkok was so humid, making her wished she was in England once again, the weather was cold and didn’t she have to loose a sweat when she jogging over there. She wiped her forehead with her towel. After a long rest she got up and ran again, but after a couple of steps she remembers her water bottle was still on the bench, she turns around to grab it but something hard bumped into her. She fell onto the ground, her shoulder soar from the collision, her cushion hurt from smacking into the cement sidewalk.

Guy: “I’m sorry. Are you okay?” he asked as he helped her to her feet. Kob brushes the dirt off her elbow and knees, ignoring the man.

Kob: “I’m doing fine.” She slid her hand away from the men’s hold without looking up to see who he was.

Guy: “If your okay, then I’m going to go now. I’m very sorry.” the man jogged off, but stopped half way. Kob finally picked her water bottle from the bench and headed back to her starting point to find Aom and Captain and little ploy. What she didn’t notice was the man was following her.

Kob: “Stupid jerk. What’s wrong with Bangkok, people have been bumping into me lately.” She stomped off instead of jogging. As she walk through the park she saw a vendor, an old lady sitting down on the bench with a bouquet of white, pink, orange, red swirl in white roses in her basket. She walked up to the old lady and asked the to buy the last bouquet. At first they were arguing about the price, but once they agreed, Kob paid her and continue to approach the fountain where she had appointed to meet up with Captain and her sisters earlier that day.

Walking along side the sidewalk, giving way to other joggers, she smelt the sweet scent of the roses, and fumbled with the rose petals. When she reached the fountain, Captain and the girls had not yet returned. She stood there for almost five minutes and was begining to get worried, since the dark clouds above her was begining to move in. People around her were already headed home, but she stood there waiting. As the park cleared up, the rain pour in suddenly.

Kob: “Why this sudden change of weather? Don’t think that you can rain and make me move out of this spot.” She shouted up to the sky as if the gods were challenging her. She stood with the rain pouring all over her, sometimes wiping the rain off her face so she could see. “Where are they” she watched around for any signs of them. Finally a sound behind her made her lifted a smile. “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting here for you guys!” She turnd to face the noises, but only a man stood in front of her. He was in a white shirt, and a gray sweat pants, familair clothing to the person that bumped into her, but could it be him, since she didn’t look at his face was he the same person.

“It’s him. It’s always him!” she thought as she clutched to the flowers, not noticing the torns were digging into her palms. She was just focus on getting ready to run if he came near her. As he took a step, she had already leaped off, leaving behind her bouquet of roses along with her bloodstains on the tip of the torns. “I shouldn’t have run. Am I that weak. I have to stand up to him. I have to stand up to him. I have to or is it that I need to?” she kept asking herself. Her legs were begining to hurt, her clothings were so damp they were weighting down on her, making it harder for her to run. She leaned on a tree for shelther from the rain that was begining to fade in such a quick moment. Her heavily breathe now had calm down. When her hand was throbbing she left them and watched them bleeding. “When did this happen?” she asked herself while she quickly took the towel and wipped the blood. But her wounds opening was too massive, they were dripping blood, so she had to press the towel down to stop the bleeding. “This is stupid” She recap when she had cut her wrist while she stood in the rain in front of Tik. “It’s stupid, I’ve just let my blood wasted on that person again.” She pressed the towel harden into her palm.

Tik: “You only refer to me as ‘that person.’ You talk as if I am not important. Nor do you know me.” His voice stunn Kob, when she slightly turn her head, she saw the bouquet of roses by her side, Tik stuck it out while he stood aside the tree.

Kob: “Well, I’ve never met you before mister.” Afraid that he might see her wounds, she didn’t reach out for the bouquet.

Tik: “Don’t you want your flowers, you’ve paid a large amount of money on it, you shouldn’t just throw it away.”

Kob: “I didn’t throw it away, I’ve dropped them when I discovered a man stalking me.”

Tik: “Calling me a stalker eh? Where’s your prove? You can only can a person something if you have proof about it, isn’t that your line?”

Kob: “I have no such lines. I don’t need prove to say someone is something, when I watch his eyes I can tell who he really is or what his intentions are.”

Tik: “Really?” he leaned closer.

Kob: “Really.” She turned around the tree to get further from him.

Tik: “But you aren’t looking into my eyes.” Kob shut her mouth from opening any more mistakes.

Kob: “I don’t have time, I need to find Captain and my sisters.”

Tik: “Why don’t you look into my eyes first?” he carefully pulled her into his arms. “Prove your theory.” He dared. Kob squint her eyes, squeezing the towel tighter into her palm.

Kob: “I looked into your eyes, it’s enough already! It’s painful!” she pulled away, turned around and wrapped the towel over her hand.

Tik: “I didn’t even squeeze your arms, how can you say it’s painful?” He took a look at his shirt and saw droplets of red stains. “Did you hurt yourself?” He tried not to make his tone so worried.

Kob: “Yes I did. But don’t worry stranger. It’s nothing of your concern.”

Tik: “You may not want to acknowledge it, but at the time being, you are legally my wife.”

Kob: “Don’t be so devoted me. Just take your crap of money and we’re over with.”

Tik: “The money that had been given to charity to make the world a better place for poorless children and orphans can not be call crap money.”

Kob: “That is your money and whatever you did to it is none of my business.”

Tik: “You’re admitting that I am no stranger.”

Kob: “Alright” she took a big breath. “You know the truth to why I agree to marry you. Captain said there’s two years to the agreement. Now it’s over, I want my divorce. The words were like pricks into his chest. He wanted to quiet her just then, but he knew he could do better than take those actions. He was about to speak, but saw Kob suffering, just standing there all damped and wounds in her palm.

Tik: “Why didn’t you be more careful? Even though the roses are beautiful they have torns.” He came over to her and tighten the towel over her palm. “They’re just like you.” Kob glared at him, knowing what he meant. “I’ll take you our family doctor.’

Kob: “No. I’ll go find my sisters.”

Tik: “You don’t have to go find them. This must have been planned by them.”

Kob: “Don’t accused them.”

Tik: “Do you think it’s a coicidence I came to this park. Captain asked me to jog with him in the park, I found it odd because he has Aom and little Ploy. But yet I came, and when arriving he’s no where to be found.” Kob looked around, not a single person was there, not even pets or birds. “Now lets get you home, right now you look like a vulnerable prey.”

Kob: “Lead me then, don’t just stand there, I’m freezing.” She walked behind Tik as he lead them through the cement walk toward the parking lot. She was cold and her wounds were begining to sting, all she wanted was to get home. “Why don’t you get rid of that shirt, with the blood stains someone might see it and think you killed someone.”

Tik: “Worried?” he pulled his shirt over and held it while he continued walking. Kob couldn’t help it but feel that he was trying to hard to impress girls. His muscles jolt back and fort as he walked, Kob stared on. When they reached the car Kob stood at the passenger side with Tik at her side fumbling in his pockets for his keys. “Sorry. I’ve forgotten where I put them, either my front pocket or my back pockets, I’m not sure. He fumble around four of his pockets and nothing came out.

Kob: “Don’t play with me. Where did you put the keys.” She checked his pockets with her hand that wasn’t injured. But when realizing her hands was inside and against his flesh she rushed her hand out of there. “Where did you put them?” she demanded. Her shout caused a women running over to them with an umbrella in hand.

Tik: “Cherman I told you not to come here.”

Cherman: “But I wanted to see if you were alright. I’ve told you it was going to rain today but you came anyway. Look now you are all soaked up.” She was stroking his muscular arm when she spotted Kob staring at them. “What’s your problem women.” She snickered at Kob.

Kob: “Apparently Tik, you haven’t introduce to people that you have a wife.” Kob gave a little laugh. And looked into the distance.

Cherman: “She’s your wife you’ve been talking about? She’s nothing compare to what you’ve been telling me about.”

Tik: “You better no speak anymore. I’ll put up with you later. Now I need to take my wife to a doctor.”

Cherman: “Doctor? She’s pregnant?” her face was dissapointed.

Kob: “Do I look fat to you?” she stuck out her tummy and examined it. “These days I’ve been eating as if I had an alien inside me.” Cherman’s jaw dropped, but Tik’s dropped more than hers.

Tik: “Cherman, You leave now. I have some words to speak with my wife.” In his hands he press onto the alarm button to un-lock the car and open the doors. Kob smirked at Cherman before getting into the car. She stomped repeatedly as they car drove off into the distance.
