Chapter 4
It was a month away from our wedding. Towards the middle of April i started to noticing Kages absence at home. Often he was called out or just flat out never came home from work. And very often i found myself laid in bed, wide awake until i heard his footsteps walking up the stairs. As he enter the hallway walking towards our room i pretended to be asleep. Usually he would come into my room to take a few glances at me before proceeding on to his room next door. Before we moved in together, i told him that it would be best to save it for the wedding night. To my surprise, Kage agreed and kissed my hand and smiled at me. Somehow someway, his smile always maDe me feel safe and secure whether the condition was or wasnt. He always made me feel safe and protected and never failed to disappoint me. I was always having things my way. I guess thats another reason why it was so hard to give in for his job.
On the night of April the 12th, i had been called to go back to work due to lack of assistant that night. Kage wasnt home like always so i left him a note on the refrigerator to let him know of my whereabouts just in case he began to panic like i did that one time. On the sticky note, i asked him to give me a call when he received my note or at least to let me know that he was home. On my breaks i tried to phone him but just when it started to ring, the call alarm always went on. That night, i never received a phone call.
April the 13th finally came, but it never struck me in the head that it was actually Friday the 13th. It was an hour away before my shift started and i had knocked out in the nurse station. Clovis Community was smaller than the Community hospital in downtown Fresno. Therefore everyone working there knew each other and we always lended a hand when one was in needs. Tanya and i completed the RN program together. We both worked at the Clovis Community however she works in the PM shit but today she volunteered to do half of my AM shift until noon. Tanya is one of my bridesmaid btw
I decided to go home to wash up and take a quick nap around 8AM. As i made my way up to my room i noticed that Kage was home due to all the noise that came from his unclosed door. I thought to myself 'why didnt i see your car out in the drive way?' But i was quickly assured that it was probably parked in the garage. While i was getting my clothes in my room i yelled out to him "How come you didnt call me?" I waited for an answer but no replies were made. "Kage?" I found it odd so i walked to his room and saw that he was fast asleep already. I smiled and walked to the side of his bed and moved the covers to cover him then left to take a shower.
When i finished blow drying my hair i walked back into my room and placed the worn clothes into the laundry box. I noticed that the bag was heavily filled so i carried it downstairs and threw 'em into the washer. I then made my way back upstairs to get Kages laundry box in his bathroom. As i was leaning down to tiddy up the bathroom i felt a presence behind me... I slowly got up and turned around only to see Kage in the mirror looking tired with heavy bags under his eyes.
Kage: "I'm so tired.." He said as he unbutton his shirt baring his naked chest. "You didnt go to work today?" He asked after yawning
I smiled and turned back to gather the trash that laid on the floor. "I'll be leaving in an hour or two. Go back to sleep. I'll wake you up before i leave."
Kage: "Back to sleep? I just got home."
The hair at the back of my neck stood up. I quickly turned around to look at him whether he was joking or not. "You were asleep less than 30 minutes ago." I reminded him.
Kage smiled: "Thirty minutes ago i was still at the police department making my way home. Babe i think you're too tired. Stay home with me, today?" He walked towards me and place his arms around my waist. I turned to face him and in a serious tone i asked him, "Then who was it? I tucked someone in Your bed less than 30 minutes ago!" My head was telling me to peek out into the bedroom to see if the man was still there. But somehow my legs were NUMB! I couldnt move at all and i stared helplessly at Kage who looked very much confused. Kage gently pull me back into the bathroom and pulled out his gun from his vest and slowly walked out into his bedroom. I tried to follow him but he whispered over "Stay. No matter what, don't come out until i come back to get you. Don't open this door unless it's me." I felt helpless and cornered. He locked me in the bathroom as he cleared the house. After a few minutes he came back up to get me as he had promised. "Just us." He replied in a calm tone.
I was in disbelief! "How can that be?? I tucked you or HIM in your bed! I heard shuffling coming from your bedroom though!"
Kage pulled me into his arms and held me tight. He gently patted my head telling me to calm down and that he believes me. "We're not alone anymore. You have to leave."
"Where are we going to?" i asked, feeling like a lost child.
"I dont know. But you're not staying in this house anymore. Not after what just happened." He then pulled me back into his arms. "I dont know what i would of done if something had happened to you. I dont know how I'll survive." I was too shocked to know what to say next.
Wherever he went in the house, he held onto my hand making sure i was behind him at all times. He made me feel like a queen again. A queen whos husband loves and worships her unconditionally. He did all the packing while i stood beside him.
We left our house and drove down to Sonias condo. On our way there i remembered that i forgot to dry the clothes! "If i dont take it out within a few hours, it'll stink up." Kage told me to relax and that he'll send someone to go and get it done. I relaxed and thought to myself... "Servants?" Wow, indeed. A queen i am. Queen Lana. Too bad Kage doesnt know that he'll soon be marrying a queen making him the king of our wonderful fictional kingdom... Well, my wonderful fictional kingdom.
