GETTY GRANT PROGRAM
Multicultural Undergraduate Summer Internships at Visual Communications

Want to do something fulfilling this summer and get paid for it?
Undergraduate college students are invited to apply for with an opportunity to work this summer at Visual Communications, the first and only comprehensive Asian Pacific American media arts center in the nation. The mission of Visual Communications is to promote intercultural understanding through the creation, presentation, preservation and support of media works by and about Asian Pacific Americans. Three internship positions are available in the following categories:

EXHIBITIONS PROGRAM ASSOCIATE:
The Exhibitions Program Associate will be the lead coordinator for the summer session of our VC Quarterly Screening. The project
includes the overall planning of the event, under the supervision of the Director of Exhibitions, which would entail direct
participation in the selection of films and videos for the screening, outreach to the community, public relations, logistics, and
writing program notes for the IN FOCUS newsletter. In addition, the intern would also assist in the final wrap up of the VC FILMFEST 2007.

ARCHIVE/DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM ASSOCIATE:
The Archive/Distributio n Program Associate will assist the Director of Programs and work closely with the Archive Team, made up of graduate students and preservation specialists. The intern will aid in collections processing, help prepare the archive for public access as well as collection development. Working with the preservation consultant, the archive intern will inventory and conduct basic preservation work; protect the original materials; arrange, re-can and catalogue moving images and recorded sound holdings; arrange, care for, and describe photographs, negatives and related materials; and create records for newly developed content.

The Archive/Distributio n Program Associate will also assist the Director of Artist Services in the distribution of two new VC productions, STAND UP FOR JUSTICE and GRASSROOTS RISING.

TRAINING PROGRAM ASSOCIATE:

The Training Program Associate will assist the Director of Programs and work closely with VC Digital Academy trainers to teach the youth animation program. The intern will assist on curriculum development, logistics coordination and outreach for the program, and act as a teaching assistant during the instructional period. The Intern will also assist in documenting and evaluating the program, and would contribute an article on the training program for the IN FOCUS newsletter.

In addition to their given responsibilities, all summer interns will be asked to participate in planning for the VC Quarterly Summer Screening.

ELIGIBILITY

Students who have completed at least one semester of college by June 2007, and will not graduate before December 2007 are eligible for the internship. Applicants must be residents of or attend college in Los Angeles County. The internship opportunity is intended for members of groups underrepresented in the professions related to the visual arts, particularly individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander descent.

TERMS OF INTERNSHIP
Each intern will receive a gross salary of $3,500 for a ten-week period at Visual Communications. Internships are full-time positions starting from June 4 to August 24, 2007.

4. Two letters of recommendation:
An in-person interview will be scheduled for selected applicants once the application requirements are fulfilled.

NOTIFICATION
Finalists will be contacted by phone or e-mail for interview by Monday, May 14, 2007. The finalists should be available for an in-person interview at Visual Communications scheduled for Wednesday, May 16th and Thursday, May17th. All applicants will be notified by mail on their application status.
