Chapter 16: The Other Side of Chace

Roses are red, violets are blue, Brad and Angelina are in love, and I am too! Ah, the month of February, the month of love. I looked through pictures from our New Years trip to the Caribbean. We had TONS of fun. It was me, Chace, Adam, Eve, and Brooke. I was happy that Chace was able to spend Christmas and New Years together with his mom. I knew it meant a lot to him.
“Whatcha doing?” Eve asked from behind me.
“God, you scared me.”
“How could I scared you? I was running towards you.”
“I’m looking at pictures from our new years trip.”
“Oh, that trip was so fun. Thanks Chace for getting us tickets.”
“And thank you so much for helping with Chace’s mom.”
“Thanks my dad, he did all the work. I just begged him to do it…….So your birthday’s coming up, what do you wanna do?”
“Eve, you know I’m not a birthday girl but it doesn’t matter anyways, you’re still going to come up with something, am I right?”
“Duh! Birthdays are suppose to be special days especially if it’s on Valentine’s Day.”
That’s what made February my favorite month, other than Valentine’s Day, it was also my birthday. And it was also Chace’s birthday as well. How cute! For the past two years, I ended up celebrating only my birthday and not Valentine’s Day even though those two days happens to be on the same day but this year, I’m actually going to celebrate both days.
“Are you and Chace going to the Valentine’s Day dance?”
“Maybe, he didn’t ask me yet.”
“Then why don’t you ask him. You better hurry, Valentine’s Day is like in what a day from now?”
“But shouldn’t the guy ask the girl out?”
“Oh screw that! If I were you, I’m not gonna wait until the guy ask me out, I go ask him out.”
“Have you found a date for the dance?”
“Yeah, Adam.”
“Adam as your brother Adam?”
“Duh, who else? Other guys already have dates. I want to get in that dance for free you know.”
“How much is for singles?”
“Ten dollars.”
“What’s ten dollars?”
Eve and I both looked up and it was Adam.
“How much to get in to the dance.”
“Oh. So Sam, where’s Chace at?”
“He left to the library.”
“”Oh…”
“Why, what do you need from him?”
“Nothing, it’s just that, I don’t know if you notice Sam, but Chace’s been acting weird lately.”
“What do you mean weird?” asked Eve.
“Like, I don’t know the way he talks and acts. It’s like when I ask him something, it’s always a one word answer.” Is he like that with you Sam?”
I shook my head, “He seems fine to me.”
“Maybe you’re the weird one” said Eve.
“I am not weird! Watch if you don’t believe me, see for yourself. He’s coming over here right now.”
We stayed quiet until Chace came over to sit with us.
“Hey guys”
“Hey”, we all said.
Chace turned around to look at me, “I need to tell you something.”
Eve stood up, “C’mon Adam. Let’s go to class.”
Adam looked at his watch, “What is up with you and going to class 15 minutes early huh?”
Eve bent down and whispered something into Adam’s ear. Whatever she said, he agreed to leave with her.
I turned to look at Chace, “So what did you wanted to tell me?”
“I…..um…..”
Okay what Adam said earlier about Chace acting weird and all was probably true. Chace was never like this. When ever he wanted to tell me something, he would look at me. He sat there holding my hands but he wouldn’t even look at me. And I would get a friendly vibe from him when ever he’s around but right now, it’s a weird vibe I’m feeling.
“Chace, what is it? Is there something wrong?”
“I uh….well, it’s actually a question.”
“Okay…what’s the question?”
“You want to go to the dance with me?”
“Okay….sure….I was going to ask you.”
He smiled weakly, “Okay then…..I’ll see you later okay, I have to go.”
He gave me a kiss and left quickly. Okay, something is definetly wrong. Somehow it’s a whole new different Chace. The Chace I knew was all smiles, friendly, but this Chace was mysterious, dark, and hidden.
“See, I told you he’s acting weird.”
Adam and Eve came back to sit next to me again.
“You guys were listening to us?”
“Adam made me” said Eve.
“Where did he go?” Adam asked.
“I don’t know. He didn’t say.”
“Sam, did you really think Chace was trying to tell you something else instead of asking you to the dance?”
I nodded, “Yeah. I felt that he wanted to tell me something else. It’s weird though, he never acts like this.”
“He probably did something wrong but is too afraid to tell you Sam.”
“What do you mean did something wrong?” asked Eve.
“Shit, I don’t know. Cheat on her I guess.”
I flinched at the word cheat. Eve slapped Adam in the head.
“Ow, that hurted!” Adam said rubbing his head.
“Does your little brain always think stupid stuff like that? Chace would never do that to Sam. Sam, don’t believe him.”
“You know what, this behavior was the same behavior Troy had when he cheated on me.”
“Sam, you don’t think….”
“I don’t know…….I hope not.”
“Well there’s one way to find out!” exclaimed Adam.
“How?” Eve and I both asked.
Adam just smiled and had a smirk on his face
