@Starsapphire - As for the pouring water during merit is to offer good merit for the ones who has passed away. It’s supposed to help them get to their next destination. For example, Kade would pray and offer her merits to Karakade and even the maid that drowned. Our family does merits on the grandparents birthdays every year and make wishes for them.
As for touching (not just the lap, you can touch the arm or the back of the person: depends on where you are when the person is pouring the water or doing the offering) is to share the merit, the good deed. Often, it’s pours slowly into a cup and the water is later disposed to a nearby plant or tree. It was kind of Mae Jumpa to let Kade receive some merits by touching her. It showed that she is a good person even she didn’t like Kade thinking she is the original/evil Karakade.
