I never really believed it existed until I had a talk with my friend. But I still think some people go over the top with it but that might just be because I'm not as drawn to my culture or have that much of an interest in it as other people, so I often don't really care/notice

I really don’t see a big deal with it but I do notice that native Americans and blacks have the biggest objection with it. Like blacks don’t like white people wearing weave, etc or claiming rap music. I think we’re all interconnected, if a culture interests us, we should be able to learn/share/exchange knowledge. I don’t find it “racism.”

Also, cultural appropriation is not “mocking” so why are people of color so offended? Someone enlighten me! The only other question I have is with the “black” face? What’s that?

I'm black myself & I think the main issue that most black people have is that when black women wear weaves or braids etc they are usually automatically generalised as "hood rats" and all that negative stuff associated with a stereotypical black woman but when for example a white person has braids or weave, it is seen as something cool & praised.

And the purpose of black face was to originally mock black people. I don't see the need for black face in this century when black people are able to be on TV & there are many black entertainers around

@YadechTaemint woah, thanks for sharing your race. I usually don’t know too many non-Asian around in this forum. I have seen your posts around, never crossed my mind you were black. I do appreciate the input.

Going back with the black face thing, perhaps it wouldn’t be appropriate to paint a white person as a black when blacks are a large group here (also the history of slavery), but there was a case in Japan where a coach painted his face black and got scorned awfully on which really went viral. Just sharing.
