I think those that know history best can answer it better.
There's conflicting reports in history. Those that are for Phetracha and those who are against him.

Those for...says no because he loved him like family. Those who aren't says he poisoned the King bc he wanted the throne all along especially since he killed off all possible heirs and married the King's daughter (i forgot) to even further his security for the throne and set up Falcon.

Pope was supposed to play his character but bc of his knee surgery he couldn't do action scenes so it was offered to Louis
