Me too. I don't even know why I'm watching this lakorn in the first place. First off I didn't even like Pope, second Bella wasn't even an actress I followed avidly. Haha. I'm totally hooked now. Now I'm loving Bella alot. She can't take my dear Matt's place, but she comes close. Pope too. I know I secretly like him. My mouth says no, but my heart screams yes. Hahaha.

Hi guys! I'm new to this thread.
First off, I'm loving this Lakorn! I've seen Bella with Andrew and Aum. But never with James. Not really a fan of them together. But I have to say of all Bella's pairings, I really like her with Pope. They look sooooo good together. I love that because Kadesurang is from the future, the drama really takes you into how they live back then like how they use the bathroom, brush their teeth, wash their hands before they eat, how they travel to the markets, shop, etc...I mean, it's all new to me. Lol
And thanks for all the spoilers so far. I'm really hoping the ending is good because I hate when dramas start off so good then ends all blehh.
I haven't been on this site in a long while but I decided to come here because I have some questions and wasn't sure where to ask because I'm not Thai, I'm not familiar with back in the day Thai dramas/culture. This is probably my very first one. But anyways,
Why do slaves/commoner people back then have black teeth? Are they really black or do they put black stuff on it to show society status difference?
How come in Thailand they go by different # of years? Like it's 2018, but I think they go by different #s.
These are probably dumb questions but I'm just curious. Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome to the thread!
I'm going to try my best to answer the first question. I did a bit of research and some said that it was due to chewing betel nut. For question 2, it's because Thailand goes by the buddhist calendar so I've heard. For most countries, they go by the gregorian calendar. That's why for us it's 2018 but for Thailand it's not.
I woke up thinking today was Wednesday and came to the sad realization that it's not.

The black teeth. My guess is the chew on these things that are black that stains and protects their teeth? Haha.
As for the year. They go by a different calendar I would say.

543 years after Buddha went to Nirvana, we started counting Buddhist calendar.
We started counting Chirstian calendar right after Christ was born. It's been 2018 years since then.
Because the Buddha era started first. 543 years ealier than Christian era. 543+2018= 2561. So this year is 2561...
I'm familiar to this since i'm Khmer. But other countries like Myanmar also familiar with it. Got from wiki. This is how we call Buddist year.
Thai: พุทธศักราช; (phutthasakkarat);
Khmer: ពុទ្ធសករាជ; (Puth Sakarach)
Pali: Sāsanā Sakaraj
Burmese: သာသနာ သက္ကရာဇ်;

I also want to add that (correct me if I'm wrong) but, having black teeth, back then, many thai's believe that black teeth were beautiful and white teeth is ugly or undesirable hence, having black teeth is a good thing. You can see in the drama when kadesurang commented on one of her slave, she commented that her black teeth were very beautiful.

Regarding the black teeth, I am not sure but it might be because of Betel leaf and its nut. In the past, people chew betel leaf I don't know the reason why. Not just for old people, young people both men and women also do the same.
Betel leaf and nut will leave reddish brown or black stain on your teeth. I used to see my great grandma chew it as her hobby.
