Na Ram still does not know.
In episode 6, Noona confronted him when he was too heartbroken to listen. He found out his beloved (exwife) is financially backing up and in love with the bad guy. Mind you, this is the woman he swore he would only love. So he’s furiously chopping wood (which no one in their right mind should approach a man taking his anger out on the wood).
But Noona. Her time at the farm is almost up, her grandfather threatened to come get her, prompting Noona to approach Na Ram. It’s now or never.
Na Ram: I’m not free. Talk later. (About to chop more wood, the muscle in his jaw, clenching.)
Noona: I have something VERY important to tell you.
Na Ram: I don’t want to talk right now. (Hacks the wood in half.)
Noona: Please look at this picture. (She offers the picture of her and Na Ram when she was little)
Na Ram turns and swipes her hand away.
Na Ram: I said next time! (He walks away)
Stunned, Noona follows.
Noona: But what I need to tell you has to do with your daughter! Na Ram, this picture –
Na Ram with his back turned to her: I don’t have a child! Whatever you’ve heard isn’t true. I’ve never had a child, never had a family – nothing!
At this point Noona is shaking her head, in disbelief.
Noona: And what if there was a young girl who claims she is your daughter?
Na Ram: I would tell her that she’s nuts. I’ve never had a wife, how could I have had a daughter?
Noona’s lips tremble. She looks back at the picture.
Noona: What if I asked to be your daughter? Is that ok?
Na Ram’s lips curl in self-loathing: That is NOT OK.
He turns to look at her: Someone like me can’t take care of another person. I can’t offer protection, how can I be your father? You might be going through a tough time with your father, but what you’re doing doesn’t fix anything.
Tears are now streaming down her face.
Na Ram: I can’t be anyone’s father. I was born alone. I will die alone! Don’t ask me again.
He walks away, and barely made it to his front porch before he breaks down and cry.
But Noona doesn’t see this through her tears or her own heartbreak.
By episode 7, when Noona visits Na Ram at the hospital, and as he opens his eyes, he sees a blurry face calling him “dad..” He asked Noona if she had seen someone else in the room. And that’s where we left off!
I hope Noona finds the courage to actually say “Na Ram, I AM YOUR DAUGHTER,” instead of making hypothetical variations of the statement: “what if you had a daughter”, or “what if someone claims that she’s your daughter”.. or even, “can I ASK to be your daughter?”
Just go Darth Vader on Na Ram!
