how to install XViD Codec

I am trying to rip some files from my dvd by following the tutorial but i am now having a hard time with the XViD codec...i downloaded it and installd but i cant see it in the program..

Xvid is a codec that helps you view the file. It isn't a program.

No.. I mean i cant see it in the compression option that is in the program im using..does that make sense..sorry i dont really know how to put it into words.
