Chapter One: Getting to Know Surachaat Supitiyaporn

“Sawatdee Kaa,” announced the report, “Today, Khun Watanakarn Supitiyaporn has officially announced that he would be handing over the Supitiyaporn business over to his 27 year old son, Surachaat Supitiyaporn. The Supitiyaporn business is one of Thailand’s largest and most prominent businesses including a mall, and a 5 star resort located in Hua Hin. They are even currently planning to open up a hotel chain in the heart of Chiangmai for incoming tourists. Khun Surachaat Supitiyaporn has just taken the seat at the head of the board moments ago and they are currently deep into discussion about changes Khun Surachaat is planning to make. We all can expect a few drastic changes now that Khun Surachaat has taken over, but I assure you, it is definitely for the better. Reporting live outside Supitiyaporn Mall, Jem Prakahasit. Khop khun kaa.”

Surachaat fished through the papers he had in front of him as his board of advisors sat quietly around the oval meeting table. Chaat slowly closed the folder that included the papers and pushed it aside. Grabbing another one and sifiting through it. Everyone held their breath, scared to breath, scared to talk. Finally, when Chaat pushed the last folder off to the side, everyone slowly exhaled.

“Everyone gets cut 830 baht from their pay,” said Chaat abruptly.
Everyone looked up in shock but lowered their heads again when Chaat glared up at them, “I don’t know what my father was thinking, but he clearly didn’t see he’s been getting cheated. Khun Jet.”
“Krup,” answered Jet perking up in his seat.
“Why is there such a long gap between the month of April and June of recorded sales and revenue?” asked Chaat.
Khun Jet lowered his head, “Khun Surachaat…that’s because…well…”
“Because you weren’t doing your job,” said Chaat, “Isn’t that right?” Khun Jet stayed silent and Chaat continued, “Khun Asanip.”
“Krup,” answered Asanip.
“If I remember correctly, I gave you orders to find a means to increase profit, yet you give me an outline of past tactics that didn’t work. Do you think I’m interested in things that don’t work?” said Chaat.
“My apologies Khun Surachaat,” said Asanip.
Chaat sighed, “I’m not here to teach anyone, nor do I want to be taught. Don’t let this happen again.”
“Yes sir,” answered everyone together.
“Khun Jet, Khun Asanip, please rewrite your reports and give it to my secretary by tomorrow,” said Chaat handing the rest of his folders to his secretary, Nid, “The new perfume for Grand de Leur at the mall is about to be launched. Make sure everything goes as planned. Understand?”
“Yes sir,” answered everyone.

Chaat nodded and walked out of the office followed by his secretary Nid. Once outside, he stalked to his office and Nid set the folders down onto his desk.

“When is the meeting with Sia Wilai?” asked Chaat settling into his chair and loosening his tie.
Nid opened up her planner, “I’ve scheduled the meeting with Sia Wilai this evening. He requested it be at Le Voure but I told him I needed to ask you first.”
Chaat nodded, “Le Voure is fine, but only after 5.”
Nid nodded, “Kaa, I’ve already informed him that you won’t be available until after 5. If Le Voure is fine, he’ll meet you there at 8.”
Chaat nodded, “And the rooftop garden plan?”
Nid looked up from her planner, “They are clearing the place out as we speak but the interior designer Khun Wantanakarn was interested in has taken up a project in France instead. I’m trying to find possibilities for you from designers abroad. The list should be coming in soon.”
Chaat nodded, “Nid, I want you to look up possible candidates that have just graduated from college here in Thailand for me.”
“Under what field Khun Chaat?” asked Nid.
“Interior design,” said Chaat, “I don’t want a famous designer from overseas. I want a Thai designer who knows Thai culture best. I think using a newly graduated student would be the best way to promote our dedication to university studies. I want to know what they are good at, age, family background, everything.”
“Kaa,” answered Nid jotting it down in her planner.
“Anything else planned for today?” asked Chaat.
Nid closed her planner, “Khun Suranee called you earlier. Would you like me to call her back for you?”
“No need, I’ll call her myself. Thanks Nid, you’re excused,” said Chaat.
“Kaa,” answered Nid as she walked out of his office.

Chaat began sifting through the folders Nid had given him and scribbling his name down when Nid’s voice rang from his phone.

“Khun Chaat kaa, Khun Kaew is here to see you,” said Nid over the intercom.
Chaat pressed a button on the phone, “Send her in.”

A couple seconds later, Kaew walked in. Chaat motioned for her to take a seat and she did so across from him. She looked a bit uncomfortable and Chaat took notice.

“What’s the problem? Are you sick?” asked Chaat.
Kaew bit her bottom lip, “Chaat kaa…I want to…”
“Want to what?” asked Chaat staring at her.

Kaew sighed and grabbed the remote control sitting on the coffee table and turned the TV on. A reporter was on the screen with a huge picture of Kaew and Chaat behind her. It was a picture that had apparently been taken when Chaat dropped Kaew off at her apartment one night. Chaat looked over to Kaew and grabbed the remote from her hand and turned the TV off.

“So what?” asked Chaat, “What’s the problem?”
Kaew looked up at him, “Aren’t you…aren’t you concerned about what people are going to say about you?”
Chaat sighed, “You want to tell me that you’re scared people might talk bad about me, so you want to ask my permission to buy a car. Is that right?”
Kaew looked at the ground, “Kaa.”

Chaat sighed then took out an envelope and passed it to her.

“What is this?” asked Kaew.
Chaat leaned back into his chair, “300 million. Khun Tardthep’s price for you.”
Kaew looked at Chaat and lowered her head, “What did you tell him.”
Chaat shrugged, “I told him I’d give you to him.”
Kaew closed her eyes and nodded in understanding, “300 million. So in the end that’s how much I’m worth.”
Chaat nodded, “What do you think Kaew. You think you’re worth 300 million?”
Kaew looked at Chaat, “I’m not worth anything. I should be happy someone is offering 300 million for me shouldn’t I? My life is yours Surachaat to do with it as you please. I’ve told you before haven’t I?”
Chaat nodded, “Yes you have. But I think…” Chaat grabbed the enevelope and took the check out. He held it up in front of Kaew and tore it into two. Kaew watched with wide eyes, “…you’re worth more than 300 million.”
Kaew sighed in relief as tears welled up in her eyes, “Kaa..”
Chaat took Kaew’s hand in his, “No life has a price. Not yours, nor anyone elses. Your life is your own and I don’t want to control it. I told Khun Tardthep I would give you to him, but only on the day you willingly want to go to him. Not by my order.”
Kaew looked at Chaat as tears rolled down her face, “Kaa…khop khun maak naa Chaat…In this world, I really only have you left to rely on.”
Chaat smiled, “Okay…off you go. You’re my representative for the perfume at Grand de Leur aren’t you?”
Kaew smiled, “Kaa…”

Chaat watched her stand up and wipe her tears away and walked out of his office. He smiled to himself before going back to his papers.

Chapter Two: Suranee and Praipalin

The manager of Grand de Leur caught Kaew and quickly ran up to her, “N’Kaew kaaa!”
Kaew smiled, “P’Ket.”
“Hurry hurry! Over here,” said Ket dragging her over to the perfume display. He picked one up and sprayed it on her, “Does it smell good naa kaa?”
Kaew closed her eyes and smelt it, “Hmmm…smells wonderful P’Ket!”
Ket gave her a bottle, “Here you go! Especially for my wonderful representative N’Kaew naa kaa. You’ll be the first person who has it.”
Kaew laughed, “Khop khun naa kaa P’Ket.”
Ket waved his hands through the air, “It’s okay N’Kaew. You just have to get Khun Surachaat to attend the grand opening. Ket wants to look at him too naa kaa…”
Kaew stared at him and laughed, “Ohh…P’Ket, you won’t have to worry. I’m sure Chaat will be here.”
“Yea?” said Ket happily. He laughed to himself and hugged Kaew, “As I thought, N’Kaew is the best!”
“Is that so?” came a voice.

Kaew and Ket turned around to see 3 girls enter the store. They all glared at her.

“Pang,” said Kaew, “Sawatdee kaa.”
Pang scoffed, “How is it Kaew? Being the mistress of Khun Surachaat, are you happy?”
Kaew sighed, “What are you talking about?”
Pang shrugged, “Ohhh…no need to play innocent Kaew. How’s your mother in America? She should be drowning in luxuries aren’t I right? I think Khun Surachaat has been tricked by you long enough!”
Kaew turned to Ket, “P’Ket, I’ll head back first. See you later.”
“Kaa,” said Ket pushing her out the store.
“Wait,” said Pang as Kaew passed her, “What’s wrong? Ashamed cause I’m speaking the truth aren’t you? Surachaat oh Surachaat...are you blind or what? How could you fall for the lies of a whore like this. If you keep this up, you’ll be scammed of all your money soon.”
Kaew turned around, “Think what you want and say what you want but don’t bring Chaat in this.”
Pang slapped her, “Chaat? Chaat? What rights do you have to call him that? You’re really a devil Kaew.”
“Ladies, what’s the problem?” asked Chaat walking over.
Pang’s face immediately changed and she smiled, “Sawatdee kaa, Chaat.”
“Khun Pang krup, please address me as Khun Surachaat at work,” said Chaat coldly.

Pang’s smile disappeared and she glared at Kaew. Kaew avoided her glare and turned away from Chaat. Ket jumped out from Grand de Leur and ran up to Chaat.

“Khun Surachaat kaa, it was like this. N’Kaew came into my shop and we were testing the new perfume when N’Pang came and started saying bad things to Kaew. She said N’Kaew was your--.”
“P’Ket! That’s enough,” said Kaew turning to Chaat, “It’s nothing. Everything’s fine. I’ve checked the display. It looks good. P’Ket and I will discuss the details later and he’ll report to you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll leave first okay,” said Kaew.
“Wait,” said Chaat, “Nee wants to have dinner together. Let’s go.”
Kaew turned around and caught Pang’s glare, “But…”
Chaat interrupted, “I’ll send you home. Let’s go.”

Chaat led the way and Kaew could only follow. Pang was left behind fuming with anger along her two buddies.

Ket walked up behind her, “Too bad naa kaa. Khun Surachaat doesn’t even take notice of you N’Pang. I think if you want to get close to Khun Surachaat, you should treat N’Kaew better.”
Ket laughed and skipped back into Grand de Leur.
“Stupid Kaew! Don’t think Khun Surachaat will be all yours. One day I’ll make him see what a con you are!”

Lin jammed her head against her desk and hit her computer, “OHHH…why aren’t their any jobs available!”
She flew onto her bed again and screamed into her pillow, “Is the world void of jobs or what?”
Suddenly, her stomach started grumbling and she sighed, “Ohh…hungry already? Ugh...I haven't gone shopping for food yet! I supposed I can spare a couple bucks for a nice meal outside. Then I'll go shopping tomorrow."

Meanwhile Chaat and Kaew were waiting for Nee to show up at the restaurant they were in. Kaew kept fidgeting in here seat and Chaat sighed, "What's wrong with you? I've seen you fidgeting like that for a long time now."
Kaew stared at him, "P'Pang really likes you. Why don't you let her call you P'Chaat too."
Chaat scoffed, "I don't want a boss/employee relationship to turn into something like that. Pang's just an employee. Sooner or later, she'll realize that. I think you should stop worrying about other people and worry about yourself. Aom says you've been skipping your dinners."

Kaew looked away. Aom that tattletail! Aom was the maid Chaat had hired to look after Kaew. If Kaew went modeling anywhere, Aom was sure to follow her. Kaew and Aom had developed a nice relationship, like friends, but Aom still listened to Chaat more than she listened to her.

"Aom is your spy or what? I haven't been skipping dinner, I just haven't had time to actually eat it," said Kaew.
Chaat nodded like he understood, "Okay."
Kaew noticed Nee and waved her hand, "N'Nee! Over here!"
"OH! P'Kaew!" waved Nee happily as she ran up to greet them.
Chaat leaned back in his chair, "What took you so long? Some peoples stomachs are grumbling from hunger."
Nee made a face and sat down, "Ohhh, P'Chaat, I wouldn't be talking. Some people have the devils attitude that they cut everyone's paycheck at work."
Chaat looked at his sister, "How do you know?"
Nee smiled sweetly, "Whatever P'Chaat is doing, N'Nee should know it all."
Chaat rolled his eyes, "Okay, so what that I cut their paycheck. Dad was too generous to them that they forgot how to work."
Nee looked at Kaew, "Look at P'Chaat, P'Kaew. He's really turning into the devil."
Kaew laughed, "Okay N'Nee. When do you graduate from school? I want to come congratulate you."
"Oh that would be great P'Kaew! Im graduating in two weeks! You better come watch me!" said Nee.
Kaew nodded her head and Chaat shoved the menu into Nee's face, "Okay okay...hurry up and order."

Nee stuck out her tougue at Chaat and grabbed the menu from him. Just then, Lin walks into the restaurant requesting a table for one. The waiter leads her to a table diagonally from Chaat and their table. Kaew excuses herself to go to the bathroom and walks away. Lin sits down at her seat and opens up the menu. She sighes. The prices are no joke. She really was going to be broke after this. Her and her stupid stomach that wanted to eat French. Lin sighs and excuses herself from her waiter to go to the bathroom first. Kaew has just finished doing her business and is washing her hands. Lin walks into a stall and does her business but when she reaches for the toilet paper, their isn't any.

"Khun kaa," says Lin as politely as she could, "Khun."
Kaew turns around, "Kaa."
Lin sighs embrassingly, "Sorry, I don't have any paper towel, would you mind if you passed me one?"
"Sure," says Kaew. She grabs one off the counter and hands it under the door for Lin.
"Thanks," said Lin, "This is so embrassing. What kind of restaurant is this. Don't even check up on the ladies room?"
Kaew laughed, "It's not them, it's just your luck."
Lin laughed as she walked out and saw Kaew. She stopped in her tracks and stared, "You're...you're..."
Kaew smiled, "Kaa...I'm Linkaew Wilapana."
Lin smiles, "Ohhh...I didn't think I'd be meeting you here."
"And you are?" asked Kaew.
"Ohhh...my name is Praipalin Wantanapanit, but please just call me Lin," said Lin moving to wash her hands.
"Do you live here in Chiangmai?" asked Kaew.
"Kaa, I just moved here to look for a job because I just graduated," said Lin.
"Oh...what field?" asked Kaew.
"Interior Design kaa," said Lin.
Kaew nodded, "Oh...I see...and have you found one yet?"
Lin shook her head, "Not many people seem to be needing interior designers. But I hope an offer comes in soon otherwise I might have to move back."
Kaew nodded, "Well, I wish you luck! See you around."
"You too," said Lin with a smile as Kaew walked out.
Lin turned to look in the mirror, "What...was that really Khun Linkaew? HOw come no one else takes notice of her."

Kaew returns to her seat as Chaat and Nee finishes up their talk.

"What about a garden?" askes Kaew hearing the last sentence.
"Ohh, P'Chaat is renovating the mall's top. He wants a rooftop garden up there. We're thinking of maybe a cafe area up there too," said Nee.
Kaew nodded, "That's not a bad idea. I can't wait to see it finished."
Chaat also nodded, "Father's interior designer backed out and took a different project in France. I'm trying to have Nid find designers for me."
"Interior designers?" asked Kaew.
Chaat nodded, "I want ones fresh out of college. I think those that are Thai and know Thai culture would be best for the job."
"Interior designers out of college..." repeated Kaew. Kaew turns to look around the restaurant and her eyes land on Lin just as Lin sits down at her table. Kaew turns back to Chaat.
"Chaat...over there," points Kaew at Lin, "Her name is Praipalin Wantanapanit. She's just graduated from college with a degree in interior design. She's looking for a job right now."

Chaat looks over at Lin as Lin places her order.

Chapter 3: Khun Tardthep

Chaat stares over at Lin as she places her order. Kaew looks from Chaat to Lin and back again. He's quiet and seemed to be studying her intently. Kaew looks at Nee and Nee shrugs her shoulders.

"P'Chaat," says Nee.
Without a word Chaat stands up and heads over to Lin's table.
"Oooo...P'Chaat!!" says Nee standing up after him as Kaew follows.

Lin had just sent the waiter on his way when a man approached her followed by a girl and Kaew.

"Sawatdee krup," said Chaat.
Lin looked at Kaew and then back at Chaat, "Sawatdee kaa. Do you have a problem I can help you with?"
Chaat stares at her, "I heard from Linkaew that you're looking for a job. An interior designing job."
Lin nodds her head slowly, "Kaa..."
"I'm sorry, do you have a resume on you?" asked Chaat.
Lin shook her head, "I left it in my apartment."
Chaat nods his head in understanding, "Then, may I join you for dinner?"
Nee tugs onto Chaat's arm, "P'Chaat...what are you doing?"

Chaat ignores Nee and without waiting for an answer from Lin, Chaat calls the waiter over.

"P' krup, move the orders from table 13 over here," said Chaat taking a seat across from Lin.
The waiter nods and walks away. Nee and Kaew stare at each other and Lin smiles akwardly, "Um...sit down."
Nee and Kaew take their seats quietly as Chaat begins, "So, did you just graduate?"
Lin nods, "Kaa. From Chulalongkorn University."
Chaat nods, "A very good school."
Lin returns the nod, "Kaa."
"So, how's the job hunt going then?" asks Chaat as their food arrives.
Lin sighs, "Difficult. Doesn't seem like many people need interior designers."
Chaat smiles," Maybe I can help. I'm currently looking for some interior designers for a company. Would you be interested?"
Lin stares at Chaat and turns to Kaew who nods her head, "Sure."
Chaat takes out his wallet and hands her a business card. Nee makes a confused face and looks at Chaat, "Visit this place and properly hand in a application and your resume. The sooner the better."
LIn looks at the card and thanks him, "Sure. I'll give them a visit. THanks. And you are?"
Chaat smiles, "Surachaat."
Lin smiles, "Ahh..Khun Surachaat. Should I tell them you recommended it to me?"
"No...that wouldn't be necessary," says Chaat digging into his steak dish, "No recommendations required."

They eat together and talk some more until Lin leaves, remembering she still had tons to do tomorrow. As Nee, Kaew, and Chaat begin to leave, Nee looks at her brother.

"P'Chaat," says Nee.
Chaat turns around, "What's the problem?"
Nee sighs, "Why did you give her dad's business card? Why didn't you just give her yours?"
"Cause if she knows I'm the current president, then do you think she'll actually show her true potential? She needs to feel pressured," said Chaat.
"But it's already been broadcasted across the news that you've taken over. How could she not recognize you?" asked Kaew.
"It's the same reason no one recognizes you here Kaew," said Chaat, "No one knows you here because they are too busy trying to make money for themselves. She's been too busy looking for a job," said Chaat.
"Newspaper?" asked Nee.
"Well, it doesn't seem like she reads that either does it?" asked Chaat, "I want to see what she's really worth."
Nee sighs, "Okay...I"m going to head out first. P'Chaat, are you sleeping at home today? I'll have Aunt Nor tidy your room for you."
Chaat shakes his head,"I'll stay at the condo today. Thanks. Come on Kaew, I'll drive you home."
"Bye P'Kaew. Remember to attend my graduation!" says Nee walking away.

Meanwhile, Lin closes the door to her room and taking a deep breath, she gets on her bed and jumps up and down with a huge smile on her face.

"Oh my god! What luck is this?! Lin, you better make it worth it! Don't screw this up!" says Lin to herself happily.

Chaat pulls up in front of Kaew's apartment building and waits for her to get off.

Kaew turns to face Chaat, "Um...P'Pang-"
"Forget it," said Chaat interrupting her, "Pang is just an employee and I won't do any favors."
Kaew nods, "I know. I know you don't do favors. But I'm just asking that you give her a little more recognition. She works hard at what she does."
Chaat shifts his car into 'drive' mode, "I'll have Tim pick you up tomorrow morning."
Kaew sighs, "Chaat..."
Chaat turns to face her, "Your mom left you in my care and I'm going to do my best to take care of you. If that is all you want to talk about, I suggest you go inside and take some rest instead."
Kaew sighs, "Kaa."

She slowly gets out of the car and Chaat speeds away. At home, Nee skips into the house only to be called to the living room by her father.

"Yes dad!" says Nee sitting down next to him.
"Oh...Khun Kasermsaan's son, Veerawee, have you met him?" asks her dad.
Nee tilts her head to the side and thinks, "Veerawee...doesn't sound familiar. Why?"
"I hear he's just come back from overseas. Why don't you meet up with him sometime tomorrow?" said her dad.
Nee makes a face, "Dad...are you trying to set me up again?"
Her dad laughs, "No, since Khun Kasermsaan and I are friends, he's asked that Chaat show Rawee around, but Chaat's busy with the company so I'll have to bother you to do it."
Nee considers it for a moment and then nods, "Sure. P'Chaat wouldn't know where to take him anyways. All P'Chaat knows how to do is ready documents and textbooks."
Khun Suritiyaporn laughs and pets Nee on the head, "That's my girl..."

The next day, Lin skips to the company and fills out an application as well as turning in photos of some of her works she did in school. As she's heading out, Tim opens the door for Kaew and she steps out. Kaew notices Lin immediately and greets her.

"Oh! It's you Praipalin!" says Kaew walking up the steps to Lin.
Lin waves back, "Khun Linkaew."
Kaew smiles, "Just Kaew is fine. I think we can drop the formal talking too."
Lin nods, "Then, just Lin for me."
Kaew sees P'Ket and waves him over, "P'Ket!"
P'Ket walks out the door and over to Kaew's side, "N'Kaew kaa! You're here early! What about Khun Surachaat? Is he here with you?"
Kaew smiles, "Not today P'Ket. But P'Ket, this is P'Lin. She's applying for the interior designing job."
Ket looks at Lin and smiles, "Sawatdee kaa."
Lin smiles back, "Sawatdee kaa."
"N'Lin, if you're free later, let's go have dinner together, naa kaa," said Ket, "My treat."
Lin nods, "Sure, that'd be great!"

Meanwhile, Nid sets the applications on Chaat’s desk.

“These are the applications of the people who have applied today,” said Nid.
Chaat set his pen down and looked into the folder when he came across Lin’s application. Chaat smiled, “She really came to apply.”
“What did you say sir?” asked Nid.
“Nothing,” said Chaat. He looked at the photos she had submitted and her work intrigued his eyes. He smiled and looked at Nid and gave her Lin’s application, “Let this girl know she’s been hired and should start right away.”
Nid stared at Chaat, “Khun Surachaat kaa, you haven’t looked at any of the other ones yet.”
Chaat shook his head, “This is it. Her work is exactly what I was looking for. I want her in my office before I leave today.”
“Kaa,” said Nid taking Lin’s application and exiting.

After only a couple minutes, Nid’s voice came from the intercom.

“Khun Surachaat kaa, Khun Tardthep is here to see you.”
Chaat looked up at his door before pressing the button on the phone, “Let him in.”

Khun Tardthep walked into the room and Chaat motioned for him to have a seat across from him. Khun Tardthep eased into the seat comfortably with a smirk.

“So…have you made up your mind yet?” asked Tardthep.
Chaat smiled, “I believe I made my stand clear the last time we talked.”
Khun Tardthep shook his head, “Surachaat, you aren’t some hero in a movie that can save everyone. Don’t dream too big or you might fall short of it.”
Chaat sighed, “What you Khun Tardthep? If you dream too big, you might fall short of it as well. Anyways, I want to know why it must be Linkaew. Khun Tardthep, you already have so many to choose from. Even some who will throw themselves at you. Why must you seek out Linkaew?”
Khun Tardthep laughed, “That’s because she’s still pure.” Chaat’s face stiffened and he glared at Khun Tardthep as he continued, “Come on Surachaat. I know her body you haven’t even touched once let alone caressed. Such a rare and pure jewel has come before my eyes, how can I let it go so easily? You know the ones that come my way only want the money. They aren’t pure to begin with either. Khun Linkaew…she’s gold. Gold I’m willing to pay for.”
Chaat glared at Tardthep, “If this is all you’re here to talk about, I’d like you to show yourself the way out.”
Tardthep smiles, “I want her and I will have her so make sure she continues to stay pure for me. I’ll offer you the best price for her.”

Tardthep laughes and walks out of Chaat’s office. Chaat sighes and shakes his head.
