I agree. If it was a 33 year old man and a 13 year old girl, I think the sentence would be harsher and there wouldn't be this talk of love. Why? Because a man is usually seen as controlled by one part of his body, and it's not his brain. He'll have sex with anything and love is the last thing in his mind. Whereas a woman is usually perceived as more emotional and would not have sex without love. Blah, blah, blah. . . So men = usually sex just for sex and women = sex as an expression of love.

oh fark the dam law....if there's a new law on sth, we all have to go head over heels with it? no....the law may draw lines, but it can not control human feelings. why are the ages 13, 16, 18, and 21 shown on laws by restrictions? what's special about these age ranges? they're numbers that they chose that most likely is appropriate ages, but uh....laws make generalizations.

ok...though it is true that they - and i repeat THEY, not SHE - should have waited till he was older, just to satisfy society's moral standards, to come out and be open about their relationship, but unfortunately, America's oh-so-high-standard rules just over rided it.

i believe that he was adult in mind and was old enough to decipher situations.

as for the teacher, i dont look at her as a disgusting pedophile. who put the age standard on what is concidered pedophiliac? rediculous...its not pedopeliac at all come to think about it. more than half of the world's culture would think it is NOTHING because in other parts (im talking majority), it is normal to marry another who's age is far off, no matter what the profession is. we, as 'americans', are just too ignorant to think outside the box. most americans think amish people are bkwrds. i, for one, think amish people are not, but they are rather more respectful. i my opinion, we just need to be careful about situations like this. we tend to think from an outsider's view. i saw an interview about them and they were talking (ithink it was 20/20? dont remember). they seemed very much content that they are together. wow...look yall...he was THIRTEEN?! if he was a normal 13 yr old, he would not have waited for middle aged woman all this time. fact is...they're just human beings who experience mature emotions, probably better than others. nuff said...ive added more than two cents. ta ta...

this story between teacher and student is not the first and will be not the last... i think this one is less important than the one happen in North Carolina where the teacher who is 38 years old marry with a boy who is only 14 years old and the parents of the boy are agree to give their consentement for this weddings... i think all this story are really nasty and we have to put this teacher in the jail but i khnow that in u.S.A some state allowed the wedding between some adult and some child if the parents are o.K.....but for me if u don't have 16 years u still be a child and u are not really mature for live with another people like a couple... and it's the same things for girl marry with man older than her ... for her i think she see what he can offer to her and what her parents can't never give it to her that's why she go see with a oldern man... to impressione someone u just have to show them the good side to leave ur family

for some reason its worst for a 13 yr old girl and 30 yr old guy, rather then 13 yr old guy and 30 yr old girl

She's a pedophile, bottomline.  Had it been a 30 year old man with a 13 year old girl, everyone would've seen him as a sexual predator, no if and or buts.  Furthermore she's a teacher and there are certain standards needed to be upheld in that profession.  When parents send kids to school, there's a trust that goes with that.

Statutory rape means sex with a minor because the law doesn't believe that minors can give consent to having sex.  For example if a 16 year old guy had sex with a 13 year old, the parents could press charges of rape on the guy.  The specifics are up to the states I think.

Also I don't really think all the press coverage is "celebrating" per se.  Its like the saying, you see a gruesome train wreck and you just can't look away. Morbid fascination. If you watch local news or CNN, 80% of it is bad news.  No one cares about happy sunshine unicorns crapping out rainbows kind of news. And its not just in America, its human nature.  People are interested in that kind of stuff for some reason.

this is really true... the news does not showcase happy events hence RAY thinking the USA is a scary place to even step on lol... the news is the news it only showcase tragic, terrorism, and horrific things... it'll be one in 20 different things that is good... "today is a nice sunny day," then, "today there was a roll over on 95... 2 people injured from road rage issues gone bad... a gang member got murdered... a terrorist was captured" if it were all lame shiit they showcase, who the hell would want to watch the news? human nature, we are nosey people and want to know what's happening around us. same as this... a teacher - morally/societally accepted as another figure you can use as a role model besides your own parental figure is being spotlighted.

for the situation in and of itself... true we are brought up by generalized ideas of what is considered the mature age... you have to be at least 16 to be able to consider what is right from wrong. but then again, no one can determine how mature another person is. it's like saying when i was 12, i thought i was so mature, but looking back now, i've learned so much in my life, there is just no way. but i guess it was wrong in this case because he's young, not knowing anything and she's old and was supposed to know something. speaking from the boy's view, he might have thought he was in love because he's with someone who can fulfill his needs, either sexually and/or emotionally. he might have needed a parental figure and she was there for him. studying psychology, this is something that the child develops since he's a todler called the oedipus complex, he develops sexual desires for his mom. sexual desires doesn't happen late in age... it happens early, and additionally they strive for a person like their parents... she must be of something like what he is looking for, both sexually fulfilled and emotionally fulfilled, hence why he's waited for years for her to come back to him.

i personally think they should have waited. though it was love, love doesn't necessarily have to be demonstrated with sex. either male or female, everyone has to at least be able to grow to know what else they may be missing in life. it's wrong and unacceptable because of the age gap. but if you think in terms of celebrity look at ashton kutcher and demi moore... they are 25 years apart. she was 25 when he was born... now if you think of that, isn't that gross also? but they are now together and happily married. it was only ok because he's in his 20s and fully grown? i dunno. gosh i know of so many 12-15 yr old people getting married to 40-50 yr old guys, i mean i find it disturbing also but if they've made a choice to do what they did... then they know what they are doing and are well aware of their consequences.
