So Strange: My Husband Is My Dad

don't know but it's so strange, what is so strange? That people keeps thinking my husband is my dad!

We went to best buy today to buy some new speakers for my car and the geek squad guy was talking to him and I was messing with the radio faces.. He was trying to figure out what kind of speakers I wanted .. I really don't know about this kind of stuff so I left it up to my husband this is what I heard ...



Geek Squad Guy: Are you looking for anything in particular?

Husband: Yeah she needs something with a good bass in it because I just want to replace the back ones for her the front ones are good

Geek Squad Guy: What kind of brand does your daughter have in mind?

Husband: Daughter? What Daughter?

Geek Squad Guy: I'm sorry sir I mean sister?...

Husband: No thats my girl! .. Well my Wife!

Geek Squad Guy: I'm so sorry sir ... Just she looks so...

Husband: It's ok I get it I look old!

Geek Squad Guy: You don't look that old at all sir... your like 25-26?

Husband: I'm 21!

Geek Squad Guy: Then your wife my just look very young..

Husband: She's 20! Or Turning 20!

Awkward Silence.... Guy turns and look at me....

Geek Squad Guy: Pioneer is a good brand.. Maybe some Alpines?

Me: Giggles...

Then thinks... Man does he look that old?





On top of that no one can tell he's cambodian!

My relatives all think he's Mexican or Black!

It's funny because my fobby relatives struggle to speak to him in english and then he answers them back in Khmer.. they all look like wth...Then I jump in and tell them, "Oh he's khon Khmen" or "Oh he's khmer too." LOL



But to answer my own question about why people keep thinking I'm a bit younger probably my height -.- he's a bit taller than I am .. Well a lot taller than I'm am. I'm a little below his lower neck line

I don't think it's a problem of height or what you look like Tina. And i can say that you are really lucky people only think you are his daughter.

Most of time, people just don't want to say something wrong and they just say the easy thing.

It's like me, when i go somewhere with my step father without my mum, people always think that i'm his wife. And they think like that because i'm the one who tell my step father what he have to buy or what he should choose. And even when he say no and don't want it, i will say "ok! he takes this one!". and then i always heard the salers saying: "wow, you know what you want for your husband!" And i just laugh and correct his mistake with a smile.

People will be to polite to ask you what is your relationship between you and then they just take the easy way and believe what they see.
_ when you are too wise or totally a brat with a man, you are the daughter.
_ when you are too authoriterian or too close with a man, you can be only his gf or his wife.

And for the fact people always take your husband for a black or for a mexicain, this is only because khmer people are too stupid and they can't recognize their similar. Even if you can speak khmer with them, they will be here and saying: "oh, wow that person is great, she is not khmer but she can speak like us." Because it's like me, people always ask my mum if she adopted me. Like i always say there is no people who are more stupid than khmer people who always think they know more than others.

It's okie people think that my mom is my grandma too because she is very old. She's 65 and im 20...yeah! Anywayz don't feel bad tina, you should be glad that you look younger then you think. It's a plus!

yea i do look like my bf's daughter. im alot shorter and i look young. i dont really care, sometimes i go with the flow and call him "dad", then he gets all mad and corrects them himself since i never care to. the bf looks his age though, I'M the one who looks young.

tina, that means we're going to look hot in our 30s. ^_^ i kept telling the bf when he's 30 he's going to look 35-40, and when i'm 30 i'm going to look 20. YESSSSSSS 20 characters.

I remember when I went to the mall with my little bro whose 10 years younger than me, and my nephew who is 12, and my neice who is 10. Well.. And I'm 29 and some lady thought they were all my children. I wanted to throw my drink at her face! What's worst was that, my bro started calling me Mommy when that lady mentioned me as their mom.

Yep ma'am :wub: I'm am LOL my beahaviour? nooo LOL well I'm unsure actually because the guy didn't really take notice of what I was acting like or doing cause he was talking to the hubby.

awww tina..its okie..i had similiar situation too..except it was with my older brother & my uncle.

gosh it was back when i was in middle school..me and my 2nd sister was on break so we just tagged along with my brother and my uncle to San Francisco. we were walking around shopping or whatever by the pier..and happen to go into this one camera shop.

the guy was trying to sell one of darn expensive cameras to my bro and uncle...*back then my bro was into cameras..as if he was a professional photographer! was a phased i guess lol

so anyways the guy was trying to make conversations...*wrong move buster!!... he was like ohh...so you guys are here on your honeymoons huh!?? im like... wtf...! he didnt even ask how we are related and just starts assuming..gosh...after my brother and uncle told the guy off...he was very embarrassed...*the look on his face was priceless

no, we didnt buy the camera from that guy!

lol...that was funny...i can relate to you...once my dad, my brother and i went to costco and this lady wanted my dad to sign this paper, then she turns to me and was like "would you like your wife to sign this also" and i was like "omg!" my dad laughed and told her i was his daughter...that was funny! but yeah, kind of embarrassing at the time.... usually people would assume the other person as such, but that's normal...even i do that sometimes.... hopefully you won't take the misunderstandings too seriously bc it can affect you in a negative way...

Tina my story is almost like yours.

I was at Blockbuster with my hubby and the cashier saw me look at him to pay for the movies and she asked me about him. She said that he was my father it was so funny. My hubby and I are 10 years apart but he doesnt look that old. lets see in five years he will be 40 and i will be 30 but people think that im a little kid when im next to him. When i go to work they would card me if im not in uniform, since i work at a casino. I got people thinking that im only 14 im a shorty and petite i guess. I get away with alot of things, cuz they think im only a kid.

i guess sometime height and weight can come to what people think how old we are. my niece is 13 but she a bit taller than me but she heavier and they think shes older than me. most of my niece looks older than me since they all are taller..lol..

Story reminds me of the two times in my life where I got mistaken for a husband/dad.

First time was when I was 14. I was hanging out with the neighbor's 6 year-old son and his mom (who didn't look like a 26 at the time, more like 19) asked us to go to the gas station. So I walk across the street with them and I ask the clerk if they had any (forgot what candy it was) and then they asked if my wife and son wanted anything. I look at him like :huh: and said "Excuse me?" and he repeated. I said I wasn't married since I was only 14. He then said "well you look like a couple" and I said "why? Because I'm taller?" and she was short for her age. The clerk stuttered/brushed it off and gave me the candy and other stuff and we left weirded out.

Second time was a few days ago. I had to babysit my little cousin who's only 2 months old in the mall when his parents went shopping. So I put him in the stroller and decide to go around looking for things until his parents were done. Other than the weird ass looks I got (because apparently I look way older for my age), I was persuaded to check out the baby shop by the clerk lady even though I said I wasn't the dad and I was broke. Then I went to sit down just to check on the kid since he was crying a bit and then all these women kept coming up to me and kept saying "he was such a cute baby" and "I'm surprised you're already a father for such a young man". Like, can't they even think for once that I'm just the babysitter?!
