Prologue:
[Annie narration]
If you ask me what I love the most in the world and what I would give my life for, I would say my family. I love my family and will protect them until the end.

When I was 9 years old, my father told me that I had to live with my Aunt Jane in America. I had to leave my family behind, especially my step-sister Leena. We have only been sisters for 4 years, but I felt that we have been sisters since forever. The first day I met her, I felt that Santa had gave me the greatest present of all time, someone I could play with and take care of. It was an emotional time for me, but my dad told me to be a big girl for my sister. I spent 15 years with my Aunt Jane, she was different from what I expected. She was a young and sophisticated woman, who knew how to con people into anything and everything. Every day my aunt would teach me about lying and deceiving people into getting things I want and how to stay out of trouble. Aunt Jane had become my idol as I grew up, that was until the day she was caught up in her own lies and left me for a guy halfway across the country.

At the age of 22, I decided to come home to my family, whom I talked to on the phone and through webcam. It was Leena's 21st birthday party, and her friends to treat her out at a local bar. I tagged along, being the designated driver. As I walked out of the bathroom, feeling disgusted at how dirty the toilet was and thinking how any people's butts have been on that seat before me, I saw Leena pushing a girl. I ran towards her and pushed Leena out of the way as the girl was about to punch. I felt something as if it was a hard rock smashed onto my face. Afraid that Leena would get hurt, I told her to go to the car and wait for me. Thinking that she did, I tried to calm the girl down, and after a couple of minutes, the girl decided to let of everything and started walking away. Unexpectedly, Leena came out of no where and smashed a beer bottle to the girl's head. In an instant, the girl fell down and started bleeding. Leena stood there frozen, I ran to her and told her to sit down. From what I could tell, the glass did not go into her brain, I scurried to find napkins or cloth to stop the bleeding. I started applying pressure to the cut, then turned to see if Leena was alright--she was not there. My eyes looked around the room, she was no where to be found. Everyone had panicked and ran.

The girl was taken to the hospital, while I was escorted to the police station. This was the moment of truth, I could rat out my sister and say that I did not do anything to the girl or lie. I had no choice but to take the fall for my sister, Leena had too much to live for. I love Leena too much for her to suffer, so I decided to use what I learned from my aunt to lie to police. They actually brought it. I was relieved that my sister out of trouble now. The next day, the judge looked at me and give me my sentence. I was give 3 years in prison, because the girl survived the ER, witnesses say that I was the only one who helped the girl, and my lying wasn't so bad either. I looked to see if my family was there, but I saw no one.

It has been 2 1/2 years, I found out early this year that my father's company is on the verge of bankruptcy. With three more months to go, I find out that my father had recently passed away. He was found in an alley drenched in alcohol and was burnt alive accidentally as he tried to light his smoke. There was no way of contacting Leena or my step-mother, Lin.

Now, I am finally out and determined to reunite with my family--the only thing that kept me going in prison. I plant a smile on my face and smell the sweet air of freedom.

this reminds me some wat of East of Eden, where he took the fault for his brother.
Annie, that poor girl, seems like Leena won't be any good to her at all.

Chapter 1

Annie gets out of the cab and starts walking down the road to her house. Every step is taking her down memory lane, all the laughs she had with Leena, all the time she had cooked with Lin, and all the father-daughter moments she had with her father. Annie keeps a smile on her face, reassuring herself that today will be a joyous day. She finally reaches her house, and presses the door bell. Annie felt that it’s odd that no one is coming; usually her maid would come after the first one. She pressed the bell again, still no answer. She decides that she should yell for them to come—no reply. She thought that maybe everyone was gone, so she decides to sit there and wait.
Neighbor: Excuse me, are you looking for someone?

Annie: Yes, do you know where the people who live here are?

Neighbor: No one has lived there for half a year now. I heard that they left in a hurry. They were running away from loan sharks. How are you related to them?

Annie: Oh, I’m a relative. Thanks. (she starts to walk away)

Neighbor: There is someone you can ask if you need their address. (Annie stops and turns back)

Annie reaches the house; she rings the doorbell, wishing someone answers.

May: Who is it?

Annie: Hi, I am Annie Thanasuk, Leena’s sister.

May: Annie, come in. How are you?

A few hours later
May: I hope you find them Annie. This was the last place Leena gave me before we lost contact with each other. I wanted to go visit her, but I have a family to take care of now.

Annie: Thanks for everything. (puts the piece of paper in her purse and stands up to leave)

May: Annie. I wanted to thank you…for taking the blame that night. I know that it wasn’t you, but you took the blame. You are braver than us all. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. That night was partially my fault too, we should have had Leena drink so much.

Annie: What’s done is done. I will have to get going. I want to visit my father’s grave before I go.

May: You didn’t hear? (Annie looks at May confused) With that look on your face, you didn’t. Your father was burned badly your father was so badly burnt that your step-mother decided to cremate him instead of burying him. (Annie collapse to her knees) I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, I thought Leena would have told you. After your father’s cremation, they decided to leave to Bangkok. I’m sorry.

Annie: Do you know where they spread his ashes?

May: I’m sorry. I didn’t make it to the funeral, I never asked where. Leena just told me that they decided to cremate him.

Annie: Thank you. (she picks herself up and leaves)

Annie wonders around like a zombie, walking with no destination. Flashbacks of her father run in her head. Memories of him telling her that he always wanted to be buried next to her mother so they could be together in death. Her father smile, his laughter, everything was gone. She missed the last few years with her father because she was in jail. Her father must have never known that she did not do commit that crime, she was protecting Leena. Inside she selfishly wanted to go back and wish she would never confess that she attacked that girl just so she could be with her father one last time. She brushed that thought immediately—she hit herself for ever being to thinking like that. She loves Leena. Annie stops and notices that her feet have led her to the train station. This is the moment of truth, will she still continue to find her family or will she disappear from them forever? She took a few steps towards the door then hesitates to open the door. She takes a deep breath and whispers “…for father, I will find them for father.”

She sits down and looks outside. It’s already night time. Annie starts to drift away into a deep sleep, clutching the only thing she has with her—her purse. Meanwhile, a 29-year old man finds his seat and notices a beautiful woman sleeping across from it. He starts getting nervous and sweating, thinking he’s losing his mind because she looks like an angel. He brushes the thought away and sits down immediately. Losing his composure, he drops a tiny red box. He frantically looks for it, and shock to discover that it’s underneath the woman’s seat. He gulps.

He bends down slowly and reaches his hand to get it. No luck, he needs to get closer. He moves closer and bends his head down. He curses the woman for wearing a knee-length skirt instead of pants, this makes the situation worst. He’s scared to death thinking she could wake up at any moment. He got the box and as he is tries to get up; he slips and hits his head on the woman’s knees, causing her to wake up.

Annie: AHHHHH! AHHH! Pervert. Get off me! Help! Help!

Man: No-no-no! I was trying to get my box, see (shows the box). Don’t scream. Nnno-o-o.

After a while, Annie calms down and glares at the man. He bashfully looks away, clutching his bag in front of him for dear life. He tries to look anywhere else but at her face, he decides that the ground is the best place, big mistake—he was looking at her legs. Annie takes notices, she covers her legs with her purse and calls him a pervert.

Man: No-o-o. You misunderstand. I was trying to get my ring, and it was underneath your seat. I am not a pervert. I don’t know the first thing about being a pervert.

Annie: That’s something a pervert would say. Fine, if you’re not a pervert, then who are you?

Man: Okay. My name is Tawat Phootsakorn, everyone calls me Wat though. I am a local physician in….

Wat went on talking about himself, trying to convince this woman that he wasn’t a pervert. Annie on the other hand believes that he’s not a pervert but probably the most boring person that ever lived. She starts falling asleep but Wat would tap her to listen to him explain himself. They reached a stop, halfway to Bangkok. Wat gets up to use the bathroom, and he bumps into someone. Wat thinking it was an accident walks away, but Annie sees that the man stole Wat’s ring and wallet. Annie hesitate to go after the man, she reasons that it’s karma that Wat got his wallet and ring stolen, he’s too naïve. But something inside of her made her feel guilty if she didn’t do anything, so without thinking, she runs after that man.

Annie sees that he didn’t go far, so she bumps into him and steals back Wat’s stuff. The man gets up and is about to slap Annie. Luckily there were police officers nearby, so the man decides to run off. Annie looks at the ring and wallet, she feels happy that she got them back. Suddenly she hears the train, it’s leaving without her. She starts to chase the train, running by the window where she was sitting at. Her purse was still on the train. Wat comes back to his seat and sees the woman running, screaming something at him. He couldn’t hear what she was saying.

Annie: My purse! I left my purse on the train. I have your wallet and ring. Get off the train!

She couldn’t catch the train. Annie falls to her knees and starts to cry. “Why? Why must this happen to me?”

Preview:
Wat: Leena, will you marry me? (GASP! Where did I put that ring?)

Annie: I have to find that WAT guy to get back my purse.

Annie: Are you okay? Someone help!

Doctor: She suffered a minor hit to the head, so she may experience short-term amnesia.

Annie: Where are we going to stay grandma? I have no money on me--

Chapter 2

Annie picks herself up and her stomach grumbles. She notices that she hasn’t eaten for two days now. She wonders how she is going to pay for food, she has no money. “Father, please help me out. I feel like the real world is worst than prison.” A few hours later, she finds herself staring at some food vendors, practically drooling at them. She walks up to them, “Excuse me, is there any chance I can have some food? I don’t have any money on me, but I can work to pay for it.” As luck would have it, the vendors agreed and gave her some food. Annie smiles to finally find such nice people to help her.

As she was working, she thought the only way she can meet Leena and her step-mother, she would need to find Wat. He has her purse and she has his stuff. “I have to find that WAT guy to get back my purse. That pervert better have it or else.” She balls her hands into fists.
Meanwhile, Wat notices that the woman left her purse. He recalls when she was running next to the train, “So this was what she was trying to say. (sigh) I didn’t even get her name.” Being a gentleman, he decides not to open it and be nosy, so he just puts the purse in his bag. He took out a picture of his girlfriend, “Leena, I’m coming. Wait for me.”

-----------

Tuk (Wat’s father): Mother is missing.

Pat (Wat’s aunt): Are you sure? What if she’s lost in the wilderness?

Lek (Pat’s husband): We can’t be sure, she might have wondered somewhere.

Thun (Wat’s uncle): How far can an old lady get? Ha.

Sakat (Thun’s wife): Thun, she can probably outrun you in a race. I mean, look at you.

Jane (Wat’s unmarried aunt): Let’s not just to conclusions. Maybe mother went out for a walk. Let’s wait a little while to see if she returns.

No one wanted to say it, but each one believes that their mother’s sickness was acting up again. They hope that their mother will come home soon, otherwise they might have to call the police because who knows what’s going to happen to her.

-----------

Wat’s Grandma: Ungrateful kids. I’m going to teach them all a lesson—thinking that I’m sick, it’s all an act. Hee hee, where should I go today? Maybe I’ll stroll around the old neighborhood. (She walks off in her old woman disguise.)

-----------

Annie finally reaches Wat’s hometown, she looks around for any clue to where she would be able to find Wat or his life. “Maybe he doesn’t even live here and he was part of a scam to steal my purse.” She begins fuming that she didn’t see where she was walking. “AHHHH!” Annie bumped into a pole and people on the street starts laughing at her. She quickly runs and hides in a hair salon, everyone inside stares at her like a hawk. “Hi! I’m looking for Wat…Wat…oh, Tawat Phootsakorn. Does anyone know where he lives?”

Lady #1: Why are you looking for him Miss?

Annie: Uh…I have something to talk to him about, it’s urgent that I must speak to him or his family.

Lady #2: Don’t get me started on the Phootsakorns. Did you all hear that their grandmother is going senile? I heard from a reliable source that she has been losing her mind since Wat’s mother’s death.

Lady #1: Oh, that’s probably because she died during childbirth. Giving birth to Wat’s younger sister, Min.

Lady #3: She had such a hard time giving birth. She even asked me to give her my lucky underwear.

Annie cringe at that thought of a woman wearing another woman’s used underwear. She knew that she was going nowhere with these ladies, so she slowly exited the salon.

Lady #3: Ow, where did that girl go? Didn’t she want to know where Wat lived? Anyways, I heard that Wat’s father…

Annie must have circled the entire city looking for anyone who knows anything about Wat, but no one did. She begins thinking that her theory was right-Wat is a con artist. Her stomach starts growling, she hasn’t eaten for hours. Annie walks to a nearby restaurant, staring at all the yummy goodies inside. As Annie kept looking inside, she couldn’t help but overhear a man screaming. She looks over and sees that man push a grandma down.

Man: Look lady, if you don’t have money, then don’t eat here. We don’t accept freeloaders. Get out before I call the cops on you.
Grandma: Please, I’m very hungry and I just want something to eat.

Man: Get out of my sight this instant. Don’t come back unless you have money. (About to smack the grandma)

Annie: HEY! (Quickly runs towards the grandma) You don’t need to yell at this woman, she’s old enough to be your grandma, so don’t disrespect her.

Man: Learn your place young lady or else.

Annie: Or else what? Huh? You’re going to beat me up? HELP! HELP! (people started to come out and see what all the commotion was about, and Annie begins to cry) Someone please help, this man tries to beat me and my grandma up. We only asked where the bus station was and he tried to take advantage of me and my grandma. Please, this man is a very bad man. (keeps crying and somehow people brought it. They started yelling at the man, and eventually he ran back into his store) Thank you very much everyone.

Annie decides to get up as everyone started to leave. She notices that the grandma had already left and so should she. Annie decides to look for the grandma because she knew that she was looking for food. It has already been an hour, Annie begins losing hope that she will find that grandma. Her legs are tired from walking all day, so she decides to sit down by the stairs. As she gets to the steps, she sees something on the bottom of the floor. Her eyes widen, “GRANDMA!” She runs to the bottom of the steps, and sees that the Grandma hit her head and was bleeding. “Are you okay? Someone help!”

-----------

Wat finally finishes everything for the big day. He dresses very casual but quite nice. He decides to wear contacts today instead of his geeky glasses. He closes his eyes and took in a deep breath of the ocean breeze. He feels a set of hands covering his eyes.

Wat: Leena? Is that you?

Leena: How do you know? (She takes her hands off of his eyes and lets Wat turn around) Wow, aren’t you looking handsome today?

He smiles and looks at Leena, who’s wearing a white tank top with a jean vest on top and short jean shorts, but nonetheless she looked amazing. “Leena! You look beautiful. I uh--uh--”

Leena: Hmmm….so why did you ask me here instead of meeting you at a restaurant?

“Um, close your eyes first. It’s a surprise so put this on.” He gives her a blindfold and she puts it on. He takes her to the spot he has set up. He smiles nervously as he guides her to sit down. He proceeds to take the blindfold and she slowly opens her eyes and sees the most beautiful sight she has ever seen. A calm blue sea in the background of a creamy white sanded beach, with a white covered table, set for two.

Wat: I know that I’m not the most romantic guy in the world nor do I know the right words to say, but here goes. (She turns around and sees Wat standing on his knee) Leena, although we have been only going out for a few months, I feel this deep connection with you. To me, you are the air I breathe, the water I drink, the food I eat, and the house I sleep in. You are everything I need to survive. So I want to ask you, Leena, will you marry me?

He reaches in his pocket, where he thought he put it. He checks every pocket, crawls to his bag and throws everything out to find the ring box. He thinks to himself, “GASP! Where did I put that ring?” He smiles awkwardly to Leena to reassure her, but deep inside, he’s freaking out.

Leena: Wat, what was that last part, I couldn’t hear you.

Wat: Uh…uh. I said will you bury me in sand. That’s all. Let’s just eat. (Wat feels so embarrass, he should have double checked everything, now he looks like a loser. He decided to change the subject.) Leena…

Leena: What is it?

Wat: Will-will you come by to my hometown so my family can meet you?

Leena: Oh. Um, I am very busy right now Wat. Maybe when I get a break I will, I promise. I really want to see your family, but my workplace is strict if I decide to take a break right now. I hope you understand.

Wat: I do. I will wait until you come then. Well, let’s eat before the food gets cold.

Leena: Okay. By the way, you look very handsome without your glasses. You should wear contacts more often. (Wat nods and smiles at Leena) Oh, my mother says hi.

Wat knew little about Leena’s family. All Wat knows about her family is that her father died, she lives with her mother and she has an older sister that doesn’t talk to their family anymore. He wishes for Leena to open up to him about this, because he wants to be the support in her life, but he doesn’t push the issue. The whole rest of the day Wat and Leena decided to play on the beach, make a sand castle, swim in the water, and swing on the swing, watching the sunset.

-------------

Annie: Doctor how is she?

Doctor: She suffered a minor hit to the head, so she may experience short-term amnesia. But other than that, she will be fine. She can be released now.

Annie: Do you know who she is? Did she have an identification card on her or anything?

Nurse: Sorry, all she had on her was an old photo of a couple and her clothes, nothing else. You are not a relative of hers?
Annie: No, I just found her lying on the stairs. I will be leaving now. I’m going to say good-bye to the grandma first. (Walks to Grandma) Grandma, I’m going now. I hope you get better and regain your memory.

Annie starts to walk away when she felt someone grab onto her. She turns around and sees Grandma holding onto her. “Please don’t leave me. I don’t have anyone. I don’t want to be alone. Please.” Annie looks at the Grandma. She could see that her eyes were filled with fears. “Okay Grandma, don’t worry, I will take care of you. You can come with me.” They leave the hospital and Annie looks around.
Annie: Where are we going to stay grandma? I have no money on me—(she thought about Wat’s wallet)

Grandma: I’m hungry. Very hungry.

Annie was at the end of her ropes, she decided that the best way to take care of Grandma was to use Wat’s money. She knows it is wrong to use what isn’t hers, but this is an emergency. She promises herself that she will pay back every penny she uses once she gets her purse back. Plus if Wat finds out someone is using his credit card, he will surely come back and they will finally be able to meet each other. “Only for tonight, I will use this. Tomorrow I will go find him and his family.”

Grandma: Who are you talking to little girl? I’m over here.

Annie: Grandma, I’m not a little girl. My name is Annie Thanasuk. Annie. And I was just talking to myself.

Grandma: Annie. Well what are we going to eat?

Annie: Let’s find a place to stay first. It looks like it is about to rain. I don’t want you to get sick.

After Annie found a cheap place to stay, she brought some food for her and Grandma to eat. Then when Grandma went to sleep, Annie went by the window and looked at the moon, talking to herself. “Father, please help me.”

Meanwhile, everyone at the Phootsakorn residence could not sleep. They have waited hours for their mother to return—still no sign of her. Everyone starts getting worried.

Tuk: All this waiting is making everyone anxious. Let’s go to sleep, I know everyone is tired. If she is still not back by tomorrow, I will call the police myself. Let’s go now, waiting around is not going to get us anywhere. (Everyone listened to Tuk and went to bed.)
As that was going on, Wat was looking everywhere for the ring. He tore his hotel room upside down trying to find the ring. “Where can it be?” Then he suddenly remembers that girl on the train, “THIEF!”

Preview:
Annie: I have nothing in my life. No family, no love, no money, no food. All I have is his wallet and ring. I’m waiting to meet him once again, and then I will be able to find happiness again.

Grandma: You are going to stay with me now.

Wat: What is it father?

Leena: Mother, I’m afraid that Wat will hate me once he finds out that I lied to him.
