What's a good video editing/movie making program?

Hello ya'll. I want Adobe Premiere Pro, but it is a memory killer. Are there any other good programs besides Adobe that takes less space? I use Microsoft Movie Maker, but I want to try something else. Any ideas?

i use virtualdub for my avi files, it's free and very light.

i use Sony Vegas Pro 8, it's a friendly user... as long as you're familiar with timeline... plus, the program has tutorial on how you're gonna use it. so it's okay... XD
