Kwang portrayal of Aung Sumallin character made me despised Aung with a passion. Aung is racist, cold blooded, mean, stubborn, and prideful. Stubborn and stupid is not a good combination. Kwang portrayal of Aung Sumallin character made me despised Aung with a passion. Aung is racist, cold blooded, mean, stubborn, and prideful. Stubborn and stupid is not a good combination. Yes, that and the part where he searched her house and knew she was hiding a white “criminal” and he got so angry that she would lie about it, he called it a “low thing” to do but he still protected her and left the house peacefullyfully. Honestly if this was real life, oh man—— it would be so hard to always try to love and pursuade Hideko tbh. I don’t know how KOBORI has so much persistence and patience for her cold and unfair treatment. Like she purposely do things to hurt and piss him and yet he’s willing to overlook everything. Got me crying. Hahahaha. Fans comments are like “Mother Aung, if he didn’t love you, he wouldn’t protect you that much!” 5555 comments are so on point and fulfilling. You can feel their rage and anger towards Aung too!! Haha But in hindsight, it was true love, it may be stupid and blind but it was a true love Kobori was willing to do for her. She’s just too stubborn, too inconsiderate of him due to his background.

And another scene that cuts me so hard is when he was at their house visiting the granny and afterwards he said if he was still alive by the end of the war, he wants to take her whole family to visit the beauty of Japan. Well guess what she said? No thank you bc I’ll never even step on that country. So cold, rude and cruel. Bird’s whole face went from bubbly to puppy sad eyes. Wow! How can she be so inconsiderate and just cruel ?!? She shuts him down at every opportunity. Even he can’t cheer her up! But the thing is despite how dispicable the character is, Kwang isn’t annoying acting her. Like, I actually don’t want to slap her. I just feel so bad for Bird, like he needs hugs every time she cuts him with her sharp words. But now I’m worried that if newer actresses play Aungsamalin, I might want to slap them cuz newer actresses be putting too much ugly attitude into their acting. Very dislikable! Haha

Aung was a very prideful person. To me, deep down inside she does love kobori. The way Kwang take on the role it was hard for me to completely hate her. She was subtle in her hatred and her delivery was smooth. Especially, her facial expressions were not all over the place. She has major attitude with her small frame but it wasn't an intolerable one. When I watched it I sympathize with Kobori the most, but I never came to full term of hating Aung.

The newer generation will have a hard time conveying their feelings when it is this complex and different layers to make it work. For most, their facial movements would already work against them. And when they play a n'ek with attitude, they literally have an attitude of people of the present but not those in the earlier days. And that alone would already be less convincing. Kwang, has a soft appearance even if she was so mean at no time I wished harm on her.

That's why the channel have to be specifically careful in choosing a n'ek. She has to play a prideful, hating, stubborn, betrayal, and mean individual without crossing a fine to make viewers hate her.

But what changes my mind is after watching Bird, I can actually visualize Mario as KOBORI. Haha. He has that commanding demeanor, serious look despite his baby-looking face and small frame, yet he can give off those pitiful look and puppy sad eyes. Birds signature look is those sad puppy eyes (prob not exactly the right term to describe them but his eyes speak so much of sorrowness). So on point!!!
