@xdanavelvetx thanks. I try writing my stories in the hope of people able to visualize the characters as if they are watching them. Some stories worked others not so much :)

@alissaax this chapter was a little long because once I wrote the dialogues between Sila and Minta I didn't want to stop lol. I had to take some stuff out. I do get easily carried away sometimes.

@anniem Chapter 5 is coming soon. Lana's character is someone I need to figure out what I want her to be :)

@chievi4tennis thanks.. we are still waiting for the next chapter of your story. But I understand, it takes time to come up with things. And when @ alissaax reply to you, I think she was still stuck with her thai e books hahhaha.

@MKfan132 thanks.. glad you are enjoying it :)

I just back from Peru recently and recovering from the high altitude and sleepless nights are harder than I thought. Traveling to other countries gets harder and harder as you get older but I love to travel still :) I do have chapter 5 written out but just have to go back and some dialogues.

Chapter Five

Sila walked downstairs to find Woot waiting for him at the end of it, looking at his brother questionably before walking past him to the breakfast table only to paused when he saw his mom sitting there waiting with breakfast spreading out. Sila eyed his mom silently but didn’t say anything, walking over to her he noticed a plate was set next to her left. And if he’s not mistaken that would be for his dad. Sila gave Mai a kissed on the head and took his seat with Woot glancing at his brother knowingly before pulling a chair out and sat across from him.

“I made a lot of breakfast," Mai smiled but a smile both Sila and Woot couldn’t really identify.

Sila lifted his head to Woot but neither questioned Mai, they looked at the breakfast and it was clear most if not all were their dad’s favorite. Woot with unseen sadden eyes looked at his mom but quickly cast his eyes down at the food once she turned his way.

“They all look good,” Woot forked a piece of ham and puts it on his plate. He piled on different things until his plate was full. “I’ll just fill myself up with breakfast and skip lunch.”

Mai smiled and her eyes beamed with love for her two sons, they didn’t have to say anything, but it was clear they knew why she made all the food. There’s going to be a time when she has to let go, but today was not that time, her husband’s memories are still fresh in her mind and breakfast have been an important routine for them, gently taking a bite into a piece of grape she turned to Sila.

“When are you going to get marry?”

Woot let’s out a cough and Sila stopped in the middle of eating, laying his fork down he reached for a glass of water. “Who said I was going to?”

Woot hid his smile with each bite on what is his third piece of ham, he searched his brother’s eyes and found them to be lost in something that only Sila himself would know. Even as brothers, Sila has a sense of mystery about him and no one will get to know him completely if he doesn’t extend an invitation for them to be part of his world, it is that simple.

“Marriage isn’t for me Woot will have to fulfill that dream for you.”

Mai was never one to be discourage by Sila, her son might be a tad bit complicated in some things, but his heart remained simple to her because he is her son after all. She observed him from the top of her glass and felt a tinged of disappointment that his relationship fell apart with Lana. Not that he mentioned the downfall of it but being his mom, she knew just by his body language and of course the fact, he stopped bringing her up.

“Well, I have an appointment with some friends,” Getting up Mai walked over to Sila, planting a kiss on his head, “Love is a funny thing Sila, it happens when you least expect it. One relationship falls another blossom. You’ll see," Before he was able to respond she walked over to Woot. “And I don’t want you to get marry until Sila does it first,” Mai and Woot both smiled at each other.

“Point taken,” Woot happily agreed.

Sila watched his mom walked out the door before turning his attention to Woot. “How’s Getz? Are things still calm?”

“Things are moving, nothing I can’t handle. The last scuffle we have was the time you showed up,” Woot shrugged. “Those people haven’t been back. Besides, the new hire has been good. He seemed to intimidate a lot of people.”

“Good, I am busy with dad’s stuff and my own. I don’t have time to look over anything on your side for a while.”

Woot almost smiled because this is the first time Sila gave him full control. Not that he can’t handle it it’s just sometimes he gets lazy knowing that Sila will be there to take over or correct his mistakes. He remembered the time when his dad asked him what he wanted to do with his life and Woot for all the things available he wanted to open a bar. Both his dad and Sila didn’t see the appeal of it though they eventually agreed and Woot has never regretted that decision. He isn’t a perfect businessman like Sila but he thinks he’s doing a decent job. It has been known all along that his brother was going to be the chosen one to take over the family’s business but Woot has never felt slighted by it.

“Don’t worry, I got it,” Woot took another bite and look at his phone. “Hey, I got to run.”

Sila cuts a piece of egg and lifted it to his mouth but before he had a chance to eat a voice interrupted him laying his fork down breakfast is officially over.

“Sila…”

Woot inched himself away from the table but his decision to leave was postponed as he watched Lana walked over, swaying her hips as if she’s walking down a runway. From time to time he had wondered how Lana and Sila managed to stay together for almost a year. She was just…different. But love is love, he guessed and continued to watch them in silent.

“What are you doing here, Lana?”

Lana didn’t detect the irritation in Sila’s voice, but since she has been trying to get a hold of him with no success, she doesn’t care what his voice sounds like she was going to make him talk to her. “I’ve called you numerous times and you didn’t answer any of my calls or visit me.”

Sila got up slowly but even with his careful movement it was enough to drag the chair along the tiled floor making a noise that vibrated in the quiet house and for some reason it made Lana uneasy. Why should it? Not like she has done anything wrong. But even when she tried to persuade herself just that, she felt a sense of guilt. Damn it, this is not easy.

He didn’t go anywhere near her instead he walked to a pot of plant, where the leaves are urgently growing and a few flowers just blossomed, with his back to her he touched a green leaf and caressed it, letting it smoothly slide between his fingers.

“Why are you acting like you don’t care about me?”

Sila heard the question that meant nothing to him. Pressing his fingers harshly on the gentle leaf he left a bruise. He made no attempt to answer.

“You can’t do this to me, I still love you,” She added the last part quickly.

A hollow declaration of love, just as the person saying it. Sila yanked on a leaf and let it fall naturally to his feet. He was never one to forgive those that took his trust for granted. And once someone broke such a valued thing to him, they will never get it back. He touched a vibrant yellow flower but glossed over it and started to pull a few more leaves, one by one it piled next to his feet, “Do you like pretending?”

“Pretending what?” She genuinely sounded confused.

Woot intently observed Sila. He doesn’t have to see the entire thing play out he knew where his brother was heading with that one sentence. And it wasn’t looking good for Lana.

“You don’t think I know what you did while you are away.”

And those words made Lana took a couple of steps involuntary, he knew all along.

“You think playing games with me will get you far?” His voice was deadly calmed. And it made Lana scared. She has seen him once gotten into a fight and that was when she realized he is at his most dangerous when he is utterly calm just as he’s now. She swallowed so loud the sound rang in her ears.

For once Lana appreciate his back turned to her because the way her eyes changed from sweet to guilt to regret all within a few seconds would have been a calamity for him to see. She watched as the leaves kept on falling, and it made her fidget in a way she has never experienced before.

By the time Sila turned to her the plant bare no more leaves holding a yellow flower in his hand, he has yet to look at Lana. “We are over the moment you decided to strip naked for another man.”

Woot shook his head. So, that was the reason.

“I…I…Well, it was…” Lana stumbled with her words. What was she going to say? There was nothing to be said to make Sila see it any differently. She knew she was wrong. But being wrong is not going to deter her from trying to win him back. Lana moved to get closer to Sila but he cautioned her with an icy stare that made her immediately stopped.

“You are going to throw away what we have because…”

“Because you slept with another man, you damn right I will,” He finished for her. Lana saw his unforgiving eyes and remained in one spot. “You made your choice, now I am making mine.” With that he threw the flower on the floor and walked off.

“Sila…” He didn’t stop for Woot but lifted a hand indicating he knew what his brother wanted to say.

“I will deal with mom later.”

Lana eyes dropped to the floor, looking at her feet she has no idea where to begin to win Sila’s heart back or if that’s at all possible.

“Well, you aren’t as smart as I thought. How did my brother ever fall for you?” Woot walked over to Lana.

When she lifted her head, tears surrounded her eyes. It was for both pain and regret. “It was a mistake,” She blinked once and her tears freely fall. “I will win him back, that’s a promise.”

“It’s never going to happen. Once my brother is dispassionate about something it doesn’t matter what you do, it will never work.”

She didn’t want to take that as an answer even if her heart gave out a sinking feeling perhaps Woot is correct. “I’ll try anyway.”

“It’s a waste of time but I have a feeling my words are just that,” Woot turns to leave. “If I were you, I would leave him alone for a while.”

Woot walked out leaving Lana standing there thinking of her next plan. There has got to be one….but the silent around the house unnerve her, she looked from left to right until she spots a picture of Sila’s dad and left quickly.

*********************

Minta stood looking at her car with one finger on her chin thinking of the best way to deal with it. It’s late in the afternoon and she just send Milan on her way to run some errands and pick up Nat. She would have to call a tow truck but then what? Whatever needed to be done, she better set out to do it because reliving what happened last night at this location, wasn’t something she’s eager to repeat.

She looked around and during the daytime it’s almost as bad. The crowd of a few cars passing here and there doesn’t make it any safer, the only difference is, there’s light to reveal the ugly truth if something happens to her. Minta stepped closer to her car and gently kicked the front tire that looked like it is getting flat. She’s was so engrossed with her car she didn’t noticed Sila pulling in across the street.

Sila tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, he has approximately three hours before his next meeting, if he deals with Minta now something tells him, his meeting might not happen. He rolled his window down and watched her from afar, memories of last night were as vivid as it could be, came to his mind. What would happened to her if he didn’t decide to get involved? He has no desire to be part of the show and was going to let fate take its course and let those drunken bastards do what they please with her, but the moment he saw one of them ripped her sleeve there’s a rage that he wasn’t aware overcame him. And that was when a realization hits him that if anyone is allowed to hurt her it’s him and him only, anyone else would have to get through him to get to her. His thoughts circled around the event of last night when his phone rang and brought him back to reality, quickly scanning his phone he ignored the caller, his eyes went back to Minta but once their eyes collided and seeing her reaction he decided to get out the car and make his way toward her.

Minta wasn’t sure if her eyes were playing tricks on her but once she saw Sila walked leisurely to her, she panicked and looked around for a place to hide. Where would she go, it’s not like he didn’t see her. She turned around and quickened her steps only to bump right into him. The impact made her took a couple of steps back, looking at him as the sun beautifully revealed the outline of his face, he was much more handsome up close.
The way his eyes delved into hers as if he could read her mind. She blinked and turned away, there’s no way need for him to see more of what’s not being offered.

She noticed his eyes tensed and averted them from her to something above her head. She curiously tried to follow them, but he grabbed a hold of her head and held it still. Sila didn’t say anything but kept on acting strange, dividing his attention between Minta and a car that he had noticed been following him, taking his phone out and looking at a number his brows came together but whatever he wanted to do he thought against it.

“Come on, I will take you home.”

Minta backed away so fast, putting her hands up she protested the idea. “No, I am not going anywhere with you,” She wondered if she makes a run for it how far can she get? Probably no more than a few feet, since he has crowded her space.

Sila reached for her but missed when she quickly moved the right side of her body.

“I didn’t think I was asking.”

Of course, he wouldn’t. Why would Sila the Almighty do something as decent as asking people. It seemed commanding others to do what he wants is his specialty. She turned around intending on leaving when he took one big step and was in front of her again.

“Any other day, I would leave you here standing rotten under the sun, but today isn’t that day.”

She almost shook her head, with such beautiful words coming out of his mouth, who needs insults? “I have never heard more touching words.” She said sarcastically. “But I will not go anywhere with you,” Minta was so sure, her answer would be enough clue for him to go wherever he pleased and leave her alone.

But it seemed that was not enough.

“You are testing my patience.”

She saw his jaw worked in a way where if it gets anymore stiffer, it’s likely to break. Good, if he thinks he can interrupt her anytime and anywhere he deserves some annoyance.

Minta sobered and there’s a small sadness written on her face. “What exactly do you want? If I give you all that I have will you leave me alone for good?”

He paused acting like he was pondering the question, when in fact he already knew the answer. It has never changed from the moment her dad had committed the murder and no matter how long it’ll be, his answer remained as it once was. A life.

“I want your life," It was a direct, blunt answer that drained the color from her face.

She wanted to ask him if he wanted her dead or alive? But it would be the same, she imagined. If she’s dead then everything ends with them and if he gets control of her life, then basically she’s as good as dead.

“Look, don’t flatter yourself, I don’t want to take you home anymore than you want to see me," Sila paused as he watched the car and noticed one of the men talking on the phone. His head has been racing with names of the people that he has had problems with but still he couldn’t come up with who might want him followed, but he’ll find out soon enough. “You have two options, willing or unwilling?”

Such idiotic options because it was no options at all. Both would result in her going with him.

She didn’t reply instead she watched as he kept on taking small steps to her. “I mean it, if you come any…”

Her words got cut off when he grabbed a hold of her arm and pulled her along. But if one thing Sila didn’t know about her yet is her will to get away from him. Somehow, she twisted herself away from his grip and rushed to her car, grabbing her keys she unlocked the door, but as soon as her head made its way inside, she felt her shirt being grabbed from behind.

Sila yanked her out the car, pulling her by the shirt until she was completely next to him. “Stop struggling, I swear if you continue, I am going to throw you in the middle of the street.”

His words were met with deaf ears.

Kicking her door closed, he let’s go of her shirt but replaced it with her arm. “You are coming with me whether you like it or not,” Without another word he pulled her with him until they reached his car.

She knew he was not a gentle man, if there’s even remotely anything close to that in him for her but when he opened his car door and pushed her in, she almost flew to the other side of the seat, turning she reached out attempting to touch the door handle on his side when Sila grabbed her leg and pulled her away from it. Minta not one to give up, tried to kick him with her other free leg but somehow, he was prepared easily knocking it away.

She lifted herself slightly off the seat but found there’s no room to escape, he stood there filling out the space blocking her in. “I don’t have all day standing here trying to restrain you, if you don’t want your legs to break keep them inside,” He loudly closed the door on her.

Sila walked over to his side but his attention even struggling with Minta never quite left the car sitting watching them. He knew something wasn’t right when he thought about her car and decided to see if it’s still sitting in the same spot as last night. When he pulled over so did the car.

Taking his suit jacket off he threw it to the backseat but that might have been his biggest mistake yet because the moment it was off, Minta grabbed a hold of his tie and yanked it tightly to his throat.

“You let me off or I am going to choke you.” Her death grip on the tie gotten deadlier and his face turned a shade of red.

“You better let go.”

She smiled brightly and pulled him to her. “Let me out this car, or…” That was as far as she got when Sila moved so quickly she didn’t think it was possible.

He thought of the one thing he's sure she would not refuse in exchange for his tie, grabbing a hold of her front shirt he held it securely in his hands and watched as her smiled slowly died. “If you… don’t let go… of my tie,” His words were coming out slow, not that he wasn’t in a hurry even if their position had changed but her small hands were holding onto his tie for dear life and it’s restricting his breathing. “I will rip your shirt open.”

She blinked in disbelieve, there’s no way he would do such a thing, but as her mind was beginning to dissuade her heart, he yanked on her shirt and a button came loose.

“Now let go or another button is coming off,” Sila finally smiled knowing she had no other choice. “I am going to give you last warning, let go Minta.”

She gritted her teeth and looked at him with seriousness of a girl knowing she was hitting a dead end but refusing to give up. He didn’t say anymore when he pulled on her shirt with enough force not one button came off but two, she looked into his eyes and it was a battle between strength and will and she knew this one was not hers to win, letting go of his tie she pulled on her shirt to close it tightly against her.

“Never go into something knowing you would never win.”

Sila touched his throat taking a few breaths, how can a girl with small hands almost choke him to death? He turned to her, seeing the way she's sinking into the seat but make no mistake she is ready to kill him if given a chance.

“Put your seat belt on.”

Minta responded with a head turned to the window.

But sometimes stubbornness can be a weakness because Sila stepped on the gas so hard the tires screeched and the next thing she knew, she hits her head on the dashboard and found herself between the seat and the floor.

“We are being followed.”

That was the last thing Minta heard before she felt like he was driving them to their death.

“But I will not go anywhere with you.” Minta was so sure, her answer would be enough clue for him to go wherever he pleased and leave her alone.

But it seemed that was not enough.

“You are testing my patience.”

She saw his jaw worked in a way where if it gets anymore stiffer, it’s likely to break. Good, if he thinks he can interrupt her anytime and anywhere he deserves some annoyance.

Minta sobered and there’s a small sadness written on her face as she asked him, “What exactly do you want? If I give you all that I have will you leave me alone for good?”

He paused acting like he was pondering the question, when in fact he already knew the answer. It has never changed from the moment her dad had committed the murder and no matter how long it’ll be, his answer remained as it once was. A life.

“I want your life.” It was a direct, blunt answer that drained the color from her face.

She wanted to ask him if he wanted her dead or alive? But it would be the same, she imagined. If she’s dead then everything ends with them and if he gets control of her life, then basically she’s as good as dead.

“Look, don’t flatter yourself, I don’t want to take you home anymore than you want to see me. “Sila paused as he watched the car and noticed one of the men talking on the phone.

“You are coming with me whether you like it or not.” Without another word he pulled her with him until they reached his car.

“I don’t have all day standing here trying to restrain you, if you don’t want your legs to break keep them inside.” He loudly closed the door on her.

Wow!!!! Can’t wait for chapter 6.

@alissaax thanks again for trying help me :) I have to screen shot the picture then upload it that way.

Now the problem is, I can't decide among the pictures I want. I kind of don't want them as Tor and Fern but as Sila and Minta :) The picture of her leaning on him, something about it is just sweet to me. There's a sense of belonging and trust while the other one Tor is simply perfect lol 20190705_134227.jpg 20190704_183736.jpg

Will you be updating soon?
I finished writing chapter 6 since last week but for some reason when I go and reread it I am constantly changing things around. It depends what music I listened to or the mood I'm in to altered the chapter. Not sure how I pick up on this habit all of a sudden. With my previous stories when I finished a chapter l'll leave it alone but for this story, it's different. But yes, I will be updating soon.

@natsumi83 Thanks for reading :)

Chapter 6

Minta thought of many ways she would die but this was not one of them, with Sila of all people. She eyed him nervously while he acted like it’s no big deal swerving in and out of traffic. She has no idea who those people are that’s after them but one thing she’s certain of they are not after her.

“Who the hell are they?” Sila said under his breath.

“What?” That got her attention. “Why are they after you?”

He didn’t go into details or give her any explanation when his main goal is trying to get rid of the car tailing them.

"Why are they after you? I have never run into so many unfortunate situations until I met you. Exactly when are you going to be out of my life?”

All her effort to get a reply from him didn’t quite pan out, instead he turned quickly her way and decided a conversation wasn’t going to go anywhere. His eyes back on the road he hurriedly took a sharp right. And that was when she knew there’s no way, she could handle his erratic driving. High speed or abrupt turning was something she’s never able to tolerate, feeling lightheaded she breathed in slowly.

“I am too young to die. And I don’t want to die with you by my side.” She sounded so out of character she would have laughed at herself if she didn’t feel like there’s a possibility of what she just said might come true. “I have a life ahead of me to look forward to. I want to get married and have kids and…”She has no idea where she’s going or why she’s saying nonsense things but all she knows is when she’s nervous and at the point of no return things tend to leave her mouth in a way where she has no control over it.

“I am not interested in dying next to you. You’re not that special,” Sila has never in his life met a girl that so casually insulted him and does it so well.

Minta found herself turning every few seconds to look at the car to see if they had lost them but with no such luck, they however managed to get closer. She leaned slightly forward and touched her chest. “I don’t feel good,” The moment she said that, Sila stepped on the brake so hard causing her head to hit the dashboard once again. “What the…” That was all she heard as her voice dropped and her eyes widened. They were so close to hitting a truck in front of them, she puts her hand over her mouth and started to gag.

Sila backed away quickly stepping on the gas he went around the truck. “Don’t…don’t you dare throw up in my car.”

He knew if he doesn’t find a place to stop soon, she was going to vomit. The way she’s clutching on her shirt with her hands losing some of its colors, but her face is in a worst shape. The paleness was a sure sign she’s going to pass out or he was going to have to get a thorough cleaning of his car.

She closed her eyes tilting her head back she let it rest against the seat, inhaling and exhaling she began a slow pattern with her thoughts going back to her childhood for no particular reason, hearing the side of her door opened, she sat there with confusion looking at him.

“Get out, this is where we are staying for a little while.”

“You must be kidding me,” She saw the impatient on Sila’s face as he stood there. “It’s a hotel, I am not staying in a hotel with you, can’t you just drop me off at home?”

He knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but there’s no way he’s going to drop her off at her home or go to his. If that’s the case what was the point in trying to allude them this whole time. He watched the car across the street from them, not able to clearly make out their faces he did the next best thing, taking a picture of the car hoping he got a good enough shot of the license plate. Shoving his cell phone back inside his pocket he lowered his eyes only to find Minta crossing her arms and legs pretty much an indication getting her out of the car wasn’t going to be with words alone.

“I’m not going in there with you, you can’t make me. We don’t have that kind of a relationship,” She was sure he’s not crazy enough to make a scene in front of a hotel where there’s people coming and going in numbers.

But for all the dealing she has had with him, she still managed to underestimate Sila.

“You are not my type,” He said reaching for her. But as fast as his hand went forward, she’s also quick in leaning backward.

He lowered himself and was halfway inside the car, unbuckling her seatbelt he buried his hand in her hair, supporting her neck with it he saw the way her eyes came together thinking of a way to escape him. Try little one, he thought. He was going to get her out of the car whatever method he had to use. Then he exchanged hand and wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her to the edge of the seat, leaning over he grabbed his suit jacket and draped it over her.

“Put it on and I want you out before my patience is skating on thin ice. I don’t care how many people are watching, you are leaving this car in about two minutes,” He lifted two fingers up to emphasize his point. “Is that clear?”

She wanted to say, I don’t give a damn but one look at him and a few people that were curiously staring at them gave her pause. Shoving her arms harshly into the oversized sleeves she buttoned the suit jacket brushing him aside she got out the car and stood a few feet away from him looking as ridiculous in something that’s almost twice her size. If she didn’t feel small before she felt like a little girl now.

He looked her over once and his brows came together in somewhat of a disbelieve expression, shaking his head he grabbed the sleeve of the suit jacket and pulled her close. “I didn’t think buttoning something that has no more than two buttons is that difficult,” He casually proceeded to correct her mistake while Minta couldn’t find a way to react to the sudden changed of his action. “You still look…” He didn’t go any further when something flashed in his eyes veering off to a territory, he didn’t think was wise to dip his foot in, turning around he walked inside without another word.

Minta had argued vehemently for two rooms but Sila once again got what he wanted and they ended up with one, following him inside she just wanted to throw herself down on the bed, chair or whatever it was to take the pressure from her somewhat tired body instead she remembered she hasn’t called her Aunt all day.

She didn’t like the idea being in a room alone with him even if it’s spacious and beautiful, but she’ll deal with what she got. Sila opening the curtains looked out to the parking lot, lost in his thoughts he didn't hear Minta at first, clearing her throat loudly he finally turned to her. Closing the curtains he walked away from the windows, leaning against the desk he waited for her to continue with what she wanted to say.

“I need to use your phone,” She puts her hand out.

He moved his head slightly to the hotel phone. She followed and shook her head. “No, I need to call my Aunt and I don’t feel like using the hotel phone. The least you could do is let me use yours considering you are the cause why I am stuck here.”

He pulled the cell phone from his pocket, but he didn’t immediately hand it to her instead his lips formed a slight smile as he observed the way she is swallowed up in his suit jacket. “Here catch,” But if he thought she was going to do just that, he should’ve known better. When he was looking at her, she found herself doing the same thing and his phone landed on the floor.

Sila sighed.

Picking up the phone she started to blow on it as if it was dirty.

“If it’s broken you are going to pay for it,” He said in such a serious tone, there’s no mistaking it for a joke.

She shrugged. “You are going to have to deduct it from the money I don’t have,” She turned to him. “I need your password.”

Sila grabbed the phone from her and entered his password knowing better the second time he placed the phone right in her hand. “You learned your lesson,” She almost smiled but decided it was better to just leave it instead of pushing her luck.

“Auntie, it’s me Minta. I don’t know when I’ll be home. I’m at a friend’s house right now so I might be running a little late,” She pulled on her ear, something she does when she starts lying.

“Oh, Minta I am glad you called. Nat just had an asthma attack, one of his severe ones and we are heading to the hospital right now,” There’s no denying the panic in Milan’s voice. “Get there as soon as you can. We should reach the hospital in about five minutes.”

“Just get him there, oh my goodness, I’ll…I’ll…” She was unable to find the right words.

Sila grabbed the phone from her. “I’m sorry whom and I speaking to?” He asked casually.

“Milan,” Her voice began to crack. “Tell Minta to get to the hospital…she knows which one.”

Minta tried to reach for the phone but Sila puts his hand out. “She will not make it to the hospital at his very moment.”

“Who is this?”

“It does not matter just take him to the hospital and we’ll get there when we get there,” He said struggling with Minta as she jumped for the phone.

He hung up and stepped away from her, visible shaking her anger rose in an alarm speed. It’s one thing to mess with her but it’s another thing when it comes to her brother. She has managed to be there whenever Nat has his attacks and today is no exception. With one last disgusted look at Sila she headed for the door.

“You can’t leave,” He yelled out.

“I don’t care what you have to say, my brother is sick. I am leaving,” She didn’t realize how calm her voice was until the softness of the sound barely reach her ears.

Sila ran to the door blocking her from leaving, backing up her eyes became clouded with something she didn’t quite understand herself.

“Good maybe that’ll take care one of you without me doing anything,” He leaned against the door.

“How dare you!” And with that she slapped him as hard as she could. “I have never met anyone as despicable as you.”

The loudness of the slap made a sound that stopped them both, his face turned to the side he touched his cheek.

“Never in my life have I met someone like you, nothing of you is considered decent, nothing…” Minta pulled him to the side and reached for the door. But as he moved, Sila grabbed her by the waist lifted her up carrying her to the bed.

The moment he threw her on the bed she got back up and came closer to the edge of it, standing in front of her he left no space between them, grabbing a hold of her chin he made himself the focus. “You are not going anywhere right now. It doesn’t matter how hard you fight me you won’t make it out of here.”

Minta knew her hatred for him only grew with each interaction. Her eyes were brimming with tears, she wanted to scream as loud as she could. Why did her dad do something so stupid that brought someone like Sila in her life? Why did she had to take the fall for something he has done? She didn’t want to cry in front of him but when it comes to her brother, her heart is there for the taking. He is her life. He’s the reason no matter how hard things have gotten she kept going.

Sila lifted her face to him with a tighter grip on her chin, he refused her the opportunity to look elsewhere. If one thing he figured out about her is how much she hates him. And no matter how great of a threat the tears became, she won’t give into the urge of wasting them on him. But little did she knows her tears somehow became his weakness. And he in turn came up with the one solution to prevent them from falling. Him.

There’s no doubt he’s not thrill by the revelation of such a thing, how can a daughter of someone that killed his dad would make his heart twist in a way because of some tears but truth sometimes is stranger than fiction as he learned that now.

She stared unabashedly at Sila revealing the details of what she’s going through in her simple yet such complicated eyes. And for the first time a girl that’s small enough where his suit jacket, had the ability to bury her made him wants to question himself.

Those were hurtful eyes but above that it reminded him of the only person he’s determined to safeguard her tears and that’s his mom. He’ll unlikely ever admit to Minta her tears have the same impact, absolutely not but as he continued to closely watched her and saw her jaw stiffened up, the corner of her eyes tightened to fight off the tears that are now slowly going back to its place. Still refusing to let go of her chin until he knows for a fact those eyes were replaced with nothing but hatred for him. She sat up straighter and pity her for always looking small compared to him. Because the fire in her eyes that just swooped in was probably big enough to burn them both.

She attempted to brush his hand away, but it only made him lifted her chin higher. “There’s nothing that you could do for your brother that the doctors can’t do,” He finally stepped away. “Get some rest, I will be back in a few hours,” He left the room leaving Minta watching the door closed with a loud sound that caused her to slightly jump.

Minta saw the way his suit jacket covered her knees disliking the way it feels against her skin, taking it off she threw it on the floor. From the situation of last night, it seemed to spill over to tonight. The more she tried to stay out of Sila’s path the more he’s right in her face. She’s starting to wonder if that’s a sign she had to pay for her dad’s sin. And if she refused will she pay even a greater price at the end?

She slowly scoots herself to the top of the bed, laying down she pulled the blanket over her. If she does have to travel down the road that she least desire and fall in the process, she’ll make sure Sila will go down with her. And with that she yawned not knowing when she fell asleep and when he arrived.

The night falls into a deep silent but for one man he waited for his two men to come knocking with good news. He sat in a dark room with only two medium size candles providing the light. He persuaded himself that the dark somehow makes one dangerous looking, he rocked himself back and forth in the chair with a smiled gracing his round lips and his eyes widened in anticipation. He had waited so long to be where he’s at, the agonizing pain to carefully craft his plan so nothing is out of place. He was going to get Sila. He could feel it and taste it, just the imagination caused such loud laughter even he was taken back.

He paused as a sense of remorse registered through those vengeful eyes when he learned of Sila’s dad passing. He was a good man unlike his devil of a son. Sila is a different breed altogether, the only person that refused to let his past be a past. He remembered that day when he got down on his knees and begged for mercy only to get kicked was as low as one can get. The humiliation he was dealt by Sila lived inside of him and he’s positive he would die carrying that image to his grave. And for that, Sila will get serve with a memory he’ll never forget himself. Just the thought of that very day made his hand trembled he formed it into a fist and slammed it on his desk only to make a face of pain when it was harder than he would have liked.

“Your day is coming,” He raised his fist and made a promise.

But he’s no fool to think it’s easy to take someone like Sila out. No, it would take everything to fall in its perfect place because one mishap he’ll be the one that’s six feet under.

Pulling out a cigar he heard the door opened, sitting up straight he laid the cigar down rubbing his hands together he met the eyes of his men and almost choked when he saw one of them wearing a very bright yellow shirt. In the dimness of the room it’s that bright imagine during the daytime, how loud and obnoxious is the color? It has better not be the shirt he wore trying to follow someone. He suddenly didn’t want to know the answer. His eyes swept over the two men, on second thought, he’s praying they did not leave a calling card somewhere for Sila. And to his astonishment he wondered how the two ever get anything important done.

“So, what do have for me?” The man asked somewhat giddy. Exactly what did he expects because the two men looked at him with confused eyes and then turned to each other.

“What did you want, Mr. E?” The one in the yellow shirt asked earnestly. “We got a few pictures,” He pulled his phone out and from afar lifted it up and pulled it back.

Mr. E to those around him tends to call him by suddenly felt a flaring headache coming on strong. Still sitting he took a deep, deep breath, well so much for an early celebration. What he was about to experienced was an early migraine. He turned around and reached for a bottle of what it is he couldn’t quite make of. The dark at times he figured had its disadvantages.

“So, what you are telling me is you guys got nothing useful but just a few pictures. And how long did you follow him for?” He poured the liquid into a glass lifting it to his lips he smelled the strong aroma and at this point anything was going to do.

“That’s right and we followed them for a while,” The one in the yellow shirt answered too cheerfully.

Mr. E shot him a look. He did not find anything the least bit amusing. Taking a sip of the liquor in his hand he started to cough. He sets the glass down and wiped his mouth. When was the last time he even had hard liquor? Damn, he should turn the lights on to see what he is doing next time. He stood up and leaned forward. “Why didn’t you do more than to take a few pictures!” His voice thundered out leaving his two men once again looking at each other as if their boss had lost his mind.

Mr. E saw the answer in the one that wore the yellow shirt before he even spits it out. “You told us to only follow them and didn’t tell us to do anything else. So, we sat and watched them. But Sila and his girl was kind of entertaining,” He grinned. “We think they look good together,” His boss didn’t share his enthusiasm in the romance story as an object hits him on the head causing him to let out a scream.

“I told you to follow Sila and get as much information on him not for you to tell me he looks good with a girl or not!” Being the boss to these two is getting harder by the day. He sat back down in his chair. His nerves are coming undone.

Lifting his yellow shirt and bending his head down, he tried to wipe any blood. He turned to his partner. “Can you see any blood?”

“No, but I know it must hurt. You should learn to keep your mouth shut.”

“Get the hell out!”

“Yes, boss,” They rushed out.

He watched them as they hurried out the door. He was dealing with two idiots. Why had he even bothered with them? He reached for the cigar and finally lit it. He knew why, because even idiots are loyal. And for all their stupid moments, he could not find anyone that’s been with him since he was a no name. There are times, he felt like they are his kids that just happened to do his dirty work. But going after Sila is not going to cut it with clumsy people, he might have to find someone else for the job. And knowing Sila, he probably got his people to dig around and it would not take long for him to find two dumb men that can’t get out of their own way or do something as simple as following someone properly. Tilting his head, he finished the liquor with difficulty before closing his eyes and started to come up with some names that'll finish the job. With that certainty of a plan he allowed himself to enjoy the smell of the candles.

Thank you, it’s a good chapter.

Chapter 7

Continuing its depth of silent the night made Sila’s mind jumped around, but even with chaotic thoughts running wild he kept glancing at Minta every now and then. The way she snuggled against the door acting like it was her safety net, if she goes any further, she’ll probably find herself in the street. He played back to that moment when she was so afraid for her brother, she almost cried in front of him. And in that instance, he knew he will not give her the chance to ever do so. Because those tears will be detrimental to him than any words that would ever leave her lips. How did she of all people walking the earth can make his heart fall to the ground with a single tear? A question he couldn’t come up with an answer for the last few hours. He was frustrated and a degree mad at himself that a mere girl that is related to the man that killed his dad could make him feel in any way.

He wanted to drive faster but his foot just couldn’t put pressure on the gas pedal for some reason. In the corner of his eyes he noticed Minta stirring but before she came about, he pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, sitting there for a couple minutes, he stared into the night knowing it was a turning point for them. It isn’t his life that’s going to changed because he did promise he’ll see to it hers will, turning to Minta he tapped her on the shoulder.

“Hmmm….” That was the extend of her answer as she became even smaller in her seat.

Sila tried again only harder when her eyes flew opened, sitting up she looked around and more alert when her eyes came back to him.

“We are at the hospital go see your brother.”

She didn’t ask how she got to his car, but it doesn’t matter pulling the suit jacket from her body she folded it nice and neat and handed to him, taking it from her he threw it to the backseat. She didn’t wait for anything else opening the door she ran out trying to find her brother’s room.

Sila followed her slowly knowing he would not have a hard time catching up when he saw that she has her brother’s information and turned to walked off he called out her name, but she didn’t slow her pace.

“Wait a minute, I have a proposition for you,” Sila didn’t have to raise his voice to make her stop where she’s at.

Minta knew in her heart without him going into details, it was going to be like a knife finding the perfect place to stab her, basically at the core of her being, the heart. She turned and when she faced him, he has a card in his hand, almost dangling it in her face.

“How much do you love your brother?”

That question again, the first time was does she love her brother, and now it’s how much? But the meaning is the same. What is evidently clear, Nat suddenly became a pawn in Sila’s twisted plan.

“If you love your brother, the deal I have for you shouldn’t be hard to accept.”

His relaxed face almost made her want to slap him.

“I don’t have time for any of your games.”

Minta learned a while ago, that there’s no reasoning with him. The more she tried to the less it made sense to Sila. She offered no reply, instead she quietly saw his eyes glistening in whatever thought that’s roaming in his head. She has never hated anyone as much as she grew to hate him.

“A life exchange for another,” Minta remained unmoved by his words. “I will take care of your brother’s medical bills and find him the best doctor out there to treat his asthma. You’ll never have to worry about your brother again. If you spend one night with me.”

One night.

One night.

That’s all her mind could absorb. He’s basically playing with her life and has no shame in doing so. To spend one night with him equals to what? It was so hard for her head to wrap around such a thing, she couldn’t even come up with a word to truly define it.

She wanted to laugh in Sila’s face if it wasn’t for the fact they are at the hospital and her brother’s lying sick in a room.

He handed her his card. “You know where to find me.”

Minta smiled in such a painful way, it’s a somber reminder that little by little he managed to chip away of what small freedom she has. He knew that her brother means the world to her. To used him in such a way to get to her, she couldn’t even fathom just what kind of person he is. Her tears gathering around her eyes but just like all those times, it never quite left them. She promised long ago he would never see them fall, and right now is no different. He didn’t have to force her to look at him to erase the lingering tears this time, they’ll never fall for him regardless of what he does to her she’ll see to it until her last breath. She straightened herself and took the card from his hand, but keeping it was another story. She looked at the card with disgust and lets it drop to the floor as it landed between their feet.

“Go to hell.”

She didn’t wait for his respond but turned and ran to Nat’s room without looking back. Sila eyed his business card then looked up in time to see Minta turned a corner disappearing from his view. He too turned to leave but knew in his heart, she was not going to refuse his offer, it’s when she’ll seek him out is the question. The corner of his lips moved almost forming a small smile but stopped short. And as much as she wanted to refuse him and think his offer is despicable, it’s not her life she’s wagering against it it’s her brother’s.

Minta gathered herself before entering her brother’s room, the moment she pushed the door opened Milan got up and rushed to her.

“Oh, sweetie you are finally here. Just look at him. He doesn’t look good. They said he has developed pneumonia as well.”

Minta walked over to the side of her brother’s bed, staring at him with sadness that she’s unable to help him ease the pain. His pale face as he lay there sleeping broke her heart. Just how much more can his small body handle him being this way? She reached out and softly touched his hair.

“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, nothing at all,” Those words echoed insider her, playing it over and over in her mind until she realized the reason for it.

Minta backed away from the bed almost knocking into Milan.

“What’s wrong?” She asked with concern seeing Minta’s face.

“Nothing…nothing. I am a little thirsty and wanted to go get a bottle of water, do you want any?”

“No, go get what you need and if you want to go home and rest take my car I will sleep here tonight.”

Minta knew she couldn’t let her Aunt stay the night, she nodded and aimlessly walked out the room. She stopped as soon as the door closed and leaned against the wall, lifting her head she finally accepts how daunting her future is going to be, her world has fallen to her feet. A life exchange for another. Sila’s words rang in her ears so clearly.

How much do you love your brother?

She loves him enough to give her life up for his. If it meant spending a night with a man that’s sure to make her life a living hell, she’ll endure it for his sake. If one night is all it takes to give her brother a fighting chance, then wouldn’t it be worth the risk? She lowered herself to the floor, dropping her head with her knees up she wrapped her arms around it.

Is this what it’s like to feel completely hopeless?

“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you,” She kept repeating those words until there’s no more doubt in her decision.

Minta sat on the floor not knowing how long she’s been there when she felt a hand touched her shoulder, looking up with misty eyes she got up hugging Milan tightly. “He’ll get better I promise.”

A promise that Milan wanted to believe so badly, but she didn’t say anything.

The morning came accompanied by a relief to Minta that another day had passed, nothing can’t be overcome when she’s granted another day. Obviously going forward some things will not tilt in her favor, but what has? She didn’t think she’s as weak as she felt but if Sila hasn’t break her to the point of drowning in her own tears then she’ll keep fighting to stay unbroken no matter what the circumstances may be.

She moved slowly at first, unable to open her eyes though the pain from sleeping in the chair made her wrinkled her nose. It was a tired night made worst by the ache she’s starting to feel all over her body. Stretching her arms out she got up only to sit back down when the pain wouldn’t let her move any further.

“Hospital chairs sucks, huh?” Nat said through hooded eyes. He was still weak and just didn’t have the energy to sit himself up.

“It’s not the best, but not the worst,” She massaged her back then her neck. “How are you feeling?”

“A little better, I guessed,” Nat’s voice came out a little raspy. “I hate these episodes you think having many in the past that I’ll get used to it, but I never do.”

Minta forced herself to get up this time with pain or not. She made way to her brother’s side. “You’ll get better, promise.”

It was soft spoken words to her brother but the strongest promised she has ever made to anyone. Her heart has stopped questioning itself when she closed her eyes and drifted to sleep the night before. She has a purpose and no amount of suffering on her behalf was going to deter her from seeing Nat having a normal life, like a kid deserve.

Nat smiled, even if it’s just a little crack between his lips but he felt the sincerity of his sister’s words and the love she has for him didn’t go unnoticed. “Thanks, I couldn’t ask for a better sister.”

“Don’t mention it, there’s no one on this earth I wouldn’t walk to the end to protect. I just need you to get better so we can one day go travel to the places we’ve always wanted,” Minta reached and playfully messed with his hair.

“Yes, I would love that,” His eyes weakened and the next thing Minta realized he closed them and went back to sleep.

She didn’t know just how long she kept at her spot looking down at her brother sleeping form. Her expressions were many to cover in a few minutes. It is up to her now to alter her brother’s future. And there’s nothing more precious in this world than to give him his life back.

“How is he?”

“A little better,” Minta smiled seeing her Aunt carried a handful of bags, that she knew it was food. “When Nat wakes up, he’s going to be very happy.”

Minta spends a few more minutes with Milan before heading home to freshen up. There’s no sense in procrastinating the inevitable. An early start of her deal with Sila the faster she gets it out of the way. Not that she’s eager to face him but she’ll face him a hundred times over if that meant the cause is her brother.

Pulling into the parking space across from Sila’s company she knew this was it, there’s no turning back. There’s no room for feeling sorry for herself because if she found just a little space to do so, then carrying out her side of the deal with Sila wouldn’t be achievable.

Minta fumbling with her purse looking for her phone when she bumps into a figure, apologizing she looked up only to see a familiar face, but couldn’t remember exactly where she has seen him previously. She searched hard into that mind of hers when she saw a tiny smile from the man standing waiting patiently for her to recognize him.

Finally, it dawned on her. “I know you,” They both blurted it out the same time.
