Maybe Ch3 and Ch7 don't have much funding? The only ones really banking as actors are Yaya, Nadech, Mark, Kim, Bella...etc.. these channels are behind because they refuse to change their ways in writing and directing. This way does not appeal to the youngsters.
Oh they have money.

Ch3 is too inflated. They are "suppose" to be more progressive than ch7....they had all these "youth" generation star campaign

Ch7 markets to country side older people. My mom prefer ch 7 lakorns

The only channel that level up and had growth is ch5....aka OneHD...which is also afflicted with GmmTV and trueTv. The trueTv are on netflix. They also have eng subs on YT.

OneHD is smarter. Their lakorn and series is not too long. They are not inflated with actors.

Ch3 now block/hold out episodes on their YT ch and want ppl to watch on their website.

Ch7 is now posting their lakorn on YT

This year I have only enjoyed 1hd and GMM series/lakorn.

1hd - Love Proposal ....did an "update" on the typical trope. The bond/comradery/relationship between the main lead was heartwarming. You rooted for them.

Ch3 rather spend their money on marketing and events. To be fair, those things also used to be sources of advertising for them, so I understand why they do it. I feel like Ch3’s main strength is in marketing, events and their stars.

But in this current age where everyone is creating content, their main content - dramas, need to keep up with audience tastes. What’s the point of having the best and most popular actors on contract if people are barely watching the dramas that they are in? They need their stars more than their stars need them.

OneHD is a bit better in terms of variety of dramas because they have a better sense of what current audience like. And they push their dramas to international market more actively. Dramas that are not on streaming service are on YouTube, with subs. So they create their own market and demand.

I think it’s ok if Ch3 would rather push audience to their app rather than viewing on YouTube. But those FIN clips on YouTube should be subbed. And then their dramas on their app should also be subbed. Because they really need to create new audience and maximise the audience for their shows. The era of watching live tv is pretty much over, and so chasing tv ratings is futile.

I think ch3 directing to the website is dumb.

I am not going to pay money for a crappy storyline. I'll just wait or watch it from somewhere else

They are just copying the Chinese streaming site ...whom ppl play for with subs. Ch3 website don't have sub ...I understand thai....but majority of international fans don't

Fan subs has expanded thai lakorn not the thai ET....except for gmmtv and 1 hd...

They probably thought depending only on YouTube ad money wasn’t enough. Ch3 wants to target China and other Asian counties and YouTube is blocked in China. You also don’t get paid for views from every country, only certain ones YouTube works with.

The money is split with YouTube/Google and pay US taxes for any revenue generated from a US viewer. So I can see why they might think having their own platform too is more profitable and give them more control.

Its a common model. All the US tv channels and cable have their own streaming site and only clips on YouTube. Ch3 just delays posting the full episodes.

Creating their own platform is more expensive, but gives them more control for sure. In the long run it’s better for them. But yes, subbing is really needed. Korean channels sub their content in multiple languages even. I was wondering if it’s really difficult to find skilled people who can do and hire them to do subs in Thailand. But then many of their artistes have their own channels on youtube and make sure their videos are subbed. So maybe it’s not easy, but not impossible.

3+app subscription rate has increased and I really hope that those subs are coming, as they have already promised in their Perd Wig Big 3 recently.

At the Asia TV Forum & Market currently taking place in Singapore, Ch3 is pushing their 2023 dramas for export. I have no idea why that picture from BPS is used to push PL when new and nicer photos exist from PL fitting but I’m not a tv sales exec I guess.

Ch3 weibo acct has photos of their booth at the event. Looks nice.

I really don’t know what CH3 is thinking by removing Bupphe from Netflix. That can easily be their marketing tool together with the movie.

While Korea is pushing more old drama into streaming platform CH3 is living in a bubble

Right? I only got to watch it for about a year on Netflix because it got broadcast in my country after that. But I thought when the movie got released, Ch3 should try to get it on Netflix again.

Not just Korea is pushing old dramas and movies onto Netflix and other streaming platforms, other countries are doing the same too.

If YT profit is not as profitable....why did ch7 go back to posting full episodes on it? They did the websites for years....

At the end they came back to YT and isn't strictly streaming

My point is if they want more International....they need to have subs.....their website is not an incentive for ppl who understand thai.

Again fans are the one subbing in English, khmer, viet....ect....it's like ch3 and ch7 don't care about their "product"

At least onehd/gmmtv.....seems to care by providing these subs

Chinese/korean streaming has YT and streaming site with multiple subs. The episodes on YT are just a week behind.

The only streaming I pay for is Viki

I’m guessing it’s because the short-term costs of uploading on YouTube is less than developing and maintaining their own platform. They are more focused on maintaining their current audience for now, compared to pushing for international audience.

It was in a sense rhetorical questions.

Neither Ch 3 or 7 care about international viewers.

The fansubs is the one making it go international. I see Chinese sub, viet....ect

Ch7 did website and at the end came back to YT. I feel they actually lost a lot of viewers with being strictly on the website......beside not really having good storyline

I feel they will get more sub to their website....by subbing their lakorns.....why is it soo hard to do?

OneHd and GmmTV does it.

I just finish pooklok recent lakorn....it was pretty entertaining....I had subs on because I can't read thai (text message ect). This lakorn completed a few months ago

One HD is killing it. I watched 4 lakorns from them this year.....I have no done that in years.....

I usually watch 1-2 lakorns that is "ok" that I was able to complete

Oh my shipper heart. Aum and Aff were reunited on Chae. Super cute to see as a fan but on another note I'd feel weird if I were Nat. I get that these two are BFFs but I some of these moments seem way too intimate between friends I mean if my partner was bear hugging, tucking hair behind the ear, and just being overall too touchy with another woman I'd be a little uncomfortable. I know there is definitely nothing between them and they were super close before they even met their respective spouses, plus Nat commented on Aff's post, but I don't think this is anything a wife would truly enjoy seeing IMO. Anyways loving the chemistry between them and I hope Aum fully comes back to lakorns and some producer sees these pics and get these two in a lakorn together again. Come on GMM25/One31!

CH7 isn't uploading recent or currently airing on YT. If YT was so profitable for them, why don't they bother uploading the currently airing ones or even the recent ones? It's all about diversifying, not just depending on any one thing. You put stuff on youtube, have your own stream, sell licensing to other streaming sites etc.

They don't care about international viewers yet because international viewers aren't the main source of revenue for them. They're fighting to keep the main audience which is the Thailand audience, as is. If they can barely keep up with that, why would they prioritize chasing after international? When the profit outweighs the costs, they'll sub it. Some businesses are risk averse. Until they can prove that there is a profitable market out there (or a future market), I guess they're fine with having a small # of international viewers for free.

Onehd didn't always provide subs either. They just started to do so and they don't do it for every lakorn. It's always fan subs first and then when it's grown enough for companies to make money, they takeover. For the longest time (we're talking like 10+years) Korean dramas were all driven by fan subs too! Eventually when the demand is big enough, the supply will be there.

This is something I thought of…in Thailand, is it difficult to find manpower who are competent in English (or another language) to do subbing? One of the reasons kdramas grew in popularity is because a lot of Korean-speakers outside of Korea actually liked watching them and spread their love for them, and fansubbers grew as a result. Basically in those early days of kdramas going international/regional, I noticed that Koreans overseas do watch kdramas and hype them up, as opposed to the lack of hype that jdramas were receiving around the same time.

For the longest time (we're talking like 10+years) Korean dramas were all driven by fan subs too! Eventually when the demand is big enough, the supply will be there.
But for now, what I can see is that the demand is really there, the supply is really slow in catching up. GMM really created their niche of BL dramas, to the point that most international audience with little knowledge of Thai dramas really think that all Thai dramas are about BL.

I don’t understand why Ch3’s biggest hit dramas from the last decade aren’t on Netflix. Their A-list stars have a lot of international fans, but shows like BPS isn’t on Netflix anymore, 4HJHKK and Juthathep series aren’t on Netflix. When in fact, if these shows are on Netflix, they could have gained more audience just from the fact that BPS2 movie did well and is currently on Netflix, or that some of these actors have other works that are currently on Netflix, and many of these actors or dramas have linked upcoming dramas that are anticipated major projects for the channel (PL & Duangjai Tewaprom). Ch3 doesn’t seem to know how to build their international audience base while these artists are still locked to them.

AWWWWW They were my first favorite Thai couple. Their friendship is still very beautiful. To me, Aum and Aff were never compatible as a couple off screen, I have always looked at them as siblings. They friend zone each other so long ago. You just see so much family love between Aum, Aff and Nat. I still remember Aff giving her best friend to Nat at their wedding, it was so beautiful. Its rare to find a guy-girl friendship like Aum and Aff's. Especially in the entertainment industry.
