I watched current air lakorn on ch YT before. I posted about it when they 1st started to air the episodes again.CH7 isn't uploading recent or currently airing on YT. If YT was so profitable for them, why don't they bother uploading the currently airing ones or even the recent ones? It's all about diversifying, not just depending on any one thing. You put stuff on youtube, have your own stream, sell licensing to other streaming sites etc.
They don't care about international viewers yet because international viewers aren't the main source of revenue for them. They're fighting to keep the main audience which is the Thailand audience, as is. If they can barely keep up with that, why would they prioritize chasing after international? When the profit outweighs the costs, they'll sub it. Some businesses are risk averse. Until they can prove that there is a profitable market out there (or a future market), I guess they're fine with having a small # of international viewers for free.
Onehd didn't always provide subs either. They just started to do so and they don't do it for every lakorn. It's always fan subs first and then when it's grown enough for companies to make money, they takeover. For the longest time (we're talking like 10+years) Korean dramas were all driven by fan subs too! Eventually when the demand is big enough, the supply will be there.
It's not difficult....they just don't care. This is something I thought of…in Thailand, is it difficult to find manpower who are competent in English (or another language) to do subbing? One of the reasons kdramas grew in popularity is because a lot of Korean-speakers outside of Korea actually liked watching them and spread their love for them, and fansubbers grew as a result. Basically in those early days of kdramas going international/regional, I noticed that Koreans overseas do watch kdramas and hype them up, as opposed to the lack of hype that jdramas were receiving around the same time.
But for now, what I can see is that the demand is really there, the supply is really slow in catching up. GMM really created their niche of BL dramas, to the point that most international audience with little knowledge of Thai dramas really think that all Thai dramas are about BL.
I don’t understand why Ch3’s biggest hit dramas from the last decade aren’t on Netflix. Their A-list stars have a lot of international fans, but shows like BPS isn’t on Netflix anymore, 4HJHKK and Juthathep series aren’t on Netflix. When in fact, if these shows are on Netflix, they could have gained more audience just from the fact that BPS2 movie did well and is currently on Netflix, or that some of these actors have other works that are currently on Netflix, and many of these actors or dramas have linked upcoming dramas that are anticipated major projects for the channel (PL & Duangjai Tewaprom). Ch3 doesn’t seem to know how to build their international audience base while these artists are still locked to them.
I can think of several though… the Duangjai Tewaprom leads for example. Several others should be in supporting roles for several of Ch3 upcoming major lakorn - feels like Namfah, PP and Peterpan will be seem like they will be constantly on screen in the next year at least.Agree with you guys on ch7’s handling of their veteran artists. But I also think ch7’s new generation of actors/actresses look more promising. Don’t even know who ch3’s new gen is..
I like Namfah but the other two..I wouldn’t care to be excited about. Most of them, I don’t feel they have the it factor like their previous generation.I can think of several though… the Duangjai Tewaprom leads for example. Thing is I think Ch3 dramas take freaking forever to finish shooting, and their programme scheduling seems chaotic, audience will feel like one of the following:
- seeing some actors everywhere at once
- seeing some actors disappear for long periods of time
- taking a long time to get to know new actors even though they are constantly working and are in many dramas at the same time.
Ch3 used to do more events and those drama BTS shows (was it TLKT?) which would allow audience to get to know their actors. But I feel like they don’t do that as much now cos of COVID and social media?
Ch3 is way bloated with actors and their top line stars are still drawing audiences. These actors are still new, Ch3 dramas take forever to shoot e.g. dramas that were on-air this year started shooting in 2019-2020. PP & Namfah seem to be in several dramas in the last 2 years as supporting but most aren’t on-air yet. So it will take some time for them to make their mark. The likes of Nadech Yaya James Ji who exploded in popularity after one drama are rare. Most of their ch3 top stars took a while to gain audience e.g. Taew, Bella.I like Namfah but the other two..I wouldn’t care to be excited about. Most of them, I don’t feel they have the it factor like their previous generation.
I agree though, ch3 isn’t being very strategic in promoting their newbies. Ch7’s newbies are constantly in new projects and very much in our faces so eventually, we warm up to them. I also miss TLKT and they should have brought it back by now.
Congrats to the family… guess he really achieved his dream of starting a family.Weir completed new girlfriend, marriage and kid in just one year

Well, everything we have seen since then confirmed all this. Around this time last year he emerged to finally confirmed Bella’s breakup statement by saying he was single and could do anything.Wow, the last news I knew about Weir was he and Bella broke up...so did he have a shot gun wedding? His wife was already pregnant before wedding?
Considering he only got married in June and the baby was born in Dec, yes it was a shot gun marriage, but how long he had know his wife prior to that remains a mystery.Wow, the last news I knew about Weir was he and Bella broke up...so did he have a shot gun wedding?
