^^ thanks. the second photo---looks like he's staring right at me. He has that classic dark handsome look. I like it.
i totally agree with you solin...its time..and time is money..they dont have patience..and neither do i lol...gosh not to put my own culture down..but theres alot of stuff that they need to work on..but im glad that they are still trying..and hopefully in the near future there will be better actors/actresses with skills or better scripts like solin had mention...part of it could be the directors problem hmmm...but then its a little bit of everyones problem..from makeup to hairstylist and to costume designs to their actings' too...gosh my list can go on and on...but again..they are still trying and i give them props for that."It is because of the WAR" I am bored to hear the same excuse !
I agree the war is responsible of many problems in Cambodia but war is over since a moment now and I don't believe war has something in entertainment lack nowadays. Why do I say that because khmer can sometimes do good and creative thing : but they prefer to rely on easy things. Translating a song is easier than creating a new one for exemple ! The main problem is money : they have to produce a lot to make the more money possible but creating need time and they don't have time if they want money !
As for cinema I can't understand why is it so bad : maybe because they need to take time to look for real actors and better scrip writer lol.
i learned khmer from watching thai lakorns and chinese series too..and was also borned in thailand! i see that most of us are anyways.. ^_^I learn to speack khmer from watching thai and chinese series dubbed too, As I was growing up my dad don't want me to hang out with too much friends beside @ school my dad would go rent lakorn for us to watch my bro's watch chinese I watch thai hehe... it wierd sometime they watch thai too but not to much I think they like MonrukLukToung with SaranYU/NumPung ( we call sarunyu, Lek) it weird how khmer fans have name for thai star since the first lakorn they see them in ex. KOB suvanant ( PaikPraiek). They also like RachaneeMorlum. my parents were alsway working as I was growing up so no time to teach us khmer we learn from that. JUst like Sajeena I buy all SR karaoke too babd they don't have make anymore
ive read some very interesting comments on here..I totally agree with everyone in their opinions. Khmer entertainment, is changing. for it being better or worse, that's the person's perogative.
personally for me, the script is just plain stupid now, like someone said earlier, they rush the production, so they can come out with another one fast. i like the old movies like sovanpancha, on euy srey on.. even some back from teh 90's with ampor thavy, hok lakkana.. it just seems like back then, the movies have deep meanings. as for now, i guess its trying to play up the storyline to be modern, with issues that today's society is going through.. but i swear, i was watching a khmer ghost movie when all of a sudden, the ghost disappeared, and a bunch of gay men, where doing each others hair, and they were all stuttering. <<which is weird.. needless to say i didn't finish that movie..
i notice some things about khmer drama now, they are starting to do it in episodes, like lakorn. and there is always a cross dresser like lakorn too.. Which is weird when most asian cultures are so biased on homosexuality.
for songs, the oldies are the best!! hands down. I like romvong, saravan, madizon, joul kapueuk(<<shrimp..hahaha) lam leuw. some modern songs are okay, but then again they just sing the same old songs, add their own twist, and hopefully it comes out good, but mostly it comes out shitty... <like Pich Sophea> oh i don't like her, she can't sing, and she not even that pretty.
so wrapping things up, khmer entertainment is slowly, but surely changing. for better of for worse, well that is up to the consumers, if you buy it, and continue buying it, producers are thinking they are doing something right and keep on distributing it.
Yes Cambodia is poor and corrupted today compared to Thailand/Korea/Chinese but It's so far better now than 10/15 years ago and if you compared khmer entertainment todays to khmer entertainment from 10/15 years ago...well there is no improvement but a fall instead.I don't watch khmer movies or their MV much, but I don't compare a strugle to grew country with 85% of the population are living in poverty to a country such as Thai or Korean and such as. Take a good look at Cambodia today how many children beable to attend school like they should, and how many adult live in Cambodia can read or write after the war not very much. We tend to forget what is going back home since most of us either born here or grew up. We get so used to the life here in America and forget about what the people back home has gone through. I don't have to say more because I don't want to creat any issue in this forum, all I want to say is if I can't make thing better I won't say it at all, if I can't help to make it happen than don't say it at all, but I will continue to suport them in the way that I can so they can continue to progress as they move forward for the better. Cambodia are still poor and the system are very corrupted, if the two are not improving nothing well. Forgive me guys but that is how I feel about Khmer entertainment -_-
I know how you feel. I feel the same way about my culture.I mean, it's not that I'm ashamed of my culture, it just doesn't interest me.
I completely understand you. I do have constructive criticism but not a lot of people understand. and take it offensively.Ahhh.. too many negative things to say about Khmer Entertainment and it sound like I'm hating on my own people.. which I'm notOn the music side, there has been some improvement, music style wise even though some of them reference neighboring countries music

lol i rmbr watching behind the scenes on the dvd. ppl were shouting the lines behind the camera to actors. i've seen recent khmer movies that don't do that anymore. now they're trying to memorize their lines. but still the movie quality isn't that great yet.the reason why the actors are dubbed/don't use their own voice because no need to rememberize the scriptthey had people shout out the lines to them
yeah, chinese series aren't that good as they used to be. i love the ones from the 80s and 90s.LOL ladyofdarkness.
so raymond obsessed you came to the khmer section to say you don't like the et? ok.... well duh..it's a thai concert why would you expect to see khmers there? just like khmer concerts you wouldn't expect to see thais there.
i don't know what some of you guys are talking about but everyone has their point of weakness and strength. see i think khmer classical dance is nicer than that of thai's. khmer romvong is nicer too and sounds more soothing. thai is better in modern stuff and music but khmer in classical. khmer traditional music is really nice and definitely beats thai for me. i'm glad i'm exposed to many cultures cuz if i didn't know khmer at all it would definitely be a miss! as for chinese and korean, they'e pretty one dimensional. yeah they have some nice modern songs but that's about it you don't see any variety in the style (and i'm not talking about chinese opera or korean's cuz i don't know any young people who like it. i don't). i never get tired of khmer music though. as for chinese series i haven't seen one for a long time. the ones nowadays are not that great either. the 90s had better stuff (american included).
