Think this is the symbol of Bua still longing for Bua and how she will regret abandonning him. Can't help but still relate to Bua situation. Because elephant keepers love their elephants like their own kids. Haym was telling Pungto that it was up to her and her fellow elephants to win the battle and he also admitted that some might die. So he was apologizing that he had to ask that of her.
