Getting interesting. Bieluvr, who are those people in the SUV? You don't have to answer that question. The story is going to get very interesting indeed. It will trace itself to the theme of this story. Could it be vampires?
The airport was teeming with life as people were leaving and arriving for the 4th of July. There were sounds of crying babies, luggage being dragged, and footsteps heavy and small rushing to get into their flight. Slowly and casually, a bleach blonde blue eyes Abby came down the escalator where Lenny and Det. Lewis was enjoying some nice Starbucks.
“Dad,” cried Abby. “How are you?”
Lenny didn’t know how to respond. He wanted to pull her hands off of his waist as he was not her really father. But on the other hand, it would look rude and demeaning in front of Det. Lewis.
“Who’s the pretty lady next to you dad?” Asked Abby.
“Honey, meet your new stepmom, grinned Lenny.
Abby was confused. “Wait, you never told me anything about this. I thought we were close.”
Because I’m not, said Det. Lewis, as she jabs Lenny in the gut.
“Ok, Ok,” said Lenny. “She is my girlfriend.”
“Stop lying to the poor girl,” said Det. Lewis, as she slaps Lenny on the shoulder.
“Fine. Abby meets Patricia. Patricia meet Abby.”
While the two girls were getting to know each other, Lenny made his way to the railing where all of the luggage from flight 219 was starting to come it. Abby had instructed him that her luggage was white and black with decals of Southern California. The black and white luggage round and round until Lenny was able to locate it.
Lenny yanked the handle of the luggage but was surprised by its weight. “What the heck is in here? Is she going to summer camp for three months?
“No, dad,” said Abby. “You’re lucky I didn’t bring my whole wardrobe.”
Lenny rolls his eyes. “Women.”
“Ahem,” said Det. Lewis. “What was that?”
“Nothin’,” said Lenny, as he fixes the watch on his hand.
“Abby, wanna hit Bloomingdales with me?” asked Det. Lewis. “Chanel & Burberry.”
“Whao, that’s 20 minutes away in Chestnut Hill, said Lenny. “What did you start liking designer clothing and handbags?”
Det. Lewis gave Lenny a stern look. “Maybe before you were born. And am I that manly to you?
Lenny couldn’t help but laugh those comments. He continues to whistle a funny tune inside his head as they reach the car. “Yup, looks like a linebacker to me,” he mumbled.
Det. Lewis heard what he said but she was saving it for another day to pay him back for calling her a linebacker. At the moment, she and Abby were preoccupied with designer clothing and one of a kind handbags from their favorite designers. It was a chance for the two of them to be like little kid in a candy store again.
Lenny wasn’t mad or frustrated, he just wanted to visit his old pal-Carl. He wanted to reminisce about their time together while hanging out and eating barbeque. It was just like yesterday as he remembered going to Carl’s house tearing into those moist, juicy, and flavorful baby back ribs. On one plate, he would have sweet hickory sauce all over those ribs while on another, he would have the dry herbal rub on some delicious tenderloins.
“Yummy,” said Lenny. “OOOH WEE! I gonna get me some.”
Det. Lewis and Abby starred at each other and started to giggle. “Dad, are you all right?”
“Hold that thought,” said Lenny.
For the past three or four miles, Lenny has noticed a black SUV with tinted windows shadowing them along the highway and he knew it wasn’t a governmental vehicle. The SUV was from Massachusetts and Lenny could see that the driver was wearing a black suit with black sunglasses on his face. There were two or three other members in the SUV but he couldn’t make out their faces. There was one thing to do and that was to visit a gas station to see if the SUV would follow them there.
A Mobil gas station was up ahead with a whole host of parking here for a quick bathroom break.
“What wrong?” asked Det. Lewis.
“See that black SUV, it’s been following us for the past couple of miles,” said Lenny.
“Maybe, they’re going to Bloomingdales like us.”
The look of concern was all over his face. It was just a gut feeling but one he has never had before. “I dunno,” he shrugged. “Just be careful. Please watch Abby at the counter.”
Even though, Abby wasn’t his child, he was greatly concerned about her safety. It could be that Lenny have watched too many slasher type movies but it’s better to be safe than sorry. The parking lot was clean and Lenny could see that the SUV had not followed them into the gas station. After filling up the gas tank, they were on their way to Bloomingdales with snacks and drinks in hand. But there was one problem, the black SUV was back and it was following them again.
“Damn it,” said Lenny. “It’s back again.”
“Don’t worry,” said Det. Lewis, as there was a pistol inside her handbag just in case. “If they try something funny, they’ll get it.”
“You know, you can’t bring that inside the store right?”
“Er…Yeah.”
