I'm watching 20/20 and they're doing a story on commercial sex, legal prostitution aka escort services.
There are different forms of it, some work for a company like escort services (by the way they have escorts for women too) and some work for themselves, like being someone's mistress.
My question is could you ever do such a thing? Having affairs with married men to make extra money (lots extra) while living your 'regular' life on the side without anyone knowing? Could you marry for money? What if your family is in dire need and you don't see any other way out of it?
What do you think of women who do this?
It's not a new concept but it's become a big faux paux since women have entered the working world and becoming more independent.
The truth is, that's how things worked back in the old days, it's how a woman survived both in the Western and Eastern world. A woman's only hope of a good life for herself and possibly for her family was to marry a man with money and property because women weren't allowed to have their own money and property unless their husband had it written down so in his will and even then there were still laws that prevented that.
When it came to royals, the kings and/or emperors would have many (and I do mean MANY) mistresses, in some circles that was better than finding a husband because she would be taken cared of (very well) and possibly the king would find her a husband later on, in a way that made her more valuable because if her future husband wanted a favor from the king he'd have his wife talk to the king (if she use to be one of his mistresses). Women in the 'court' would also have access to noble men (who weren't just wealthy but came with a title and that crap they deemed important back then).
So back to my question, could you do it? What about the men, could you be some cougar's boy toy if she took cared of you really well? Could you deal with being a kept man?
