How do thai actors get their nickname?

Hehe. Some Thai actresses/actors have such silly nicknames. For example, Captain, Donut, Oil, and Pancake. LOL ^^

Lol yeh i agree tht when you write it out in english like tht it looks silly, but when u say it with a thai accent it makes the name sound cuter. For example Oil is usally said by thais as "Ooy" (okay even tht there its spelt weird) Lol i probly have to say it to you in person or something

but yeah, my real name is Sornmany but my family calls me Noy. they don't even call me by my real name. i only use my real name for professional use only. haha. ^_^

hahaha i have so many nicknames. okay my parent gave me 4 names but only one exist in all my docu. i have never used my legal name until after high school. when i went to get my name changed, they were like how did i get away with the name i use at school all those years. i told them i had no idea. i remember the last time i used my real name was 2-3 grade. and some of my friends call me with something they made up. so i have more than i can say. hahaha. how in the world i remember, i have no idea.

plus some thai nickname are just to funny. Dodo reminds me of poop. LMAO :loool:

You know with Oil or Thana, its not actually pronounce Oil as in petrol na lol but I don't know how the heck we end up spelling it 'OIL'

Sometimes the nick names that the stars have the directors or the person who made them into a star gives it to them, like I heard Aum Patchrapa, her nick name Aum was given to her by her manager or something before she became famous because her last nick name was kind of dull lol. Along with Poo (which means crab) lol, her last name is a stage last name... therefore changed purposely by her boss etc so that's how some of them got their nicknames or name.

(and open their mouth) ...

i've got a nickname too. it's "Toei" it's mean some kind of thai plant that has a good smell. and my sister name's "Som" it's mean orange (-*-)... i asked my mom why?. she said ..."it's sound Thai...cuz now lot of kids name not thai like Jack.........etc"

Maybe it's given by their parents or relatives or their managers when they entered the industry. I think it is for easy identification, they usually go with nickname + thai first name so that they will be easily remembered or recognized by the fans, some names are difficult to pronounce or spell. Some celebs even have same nicknames so the fans have to specify which celebrity they are talking about (example Aum Atichart and Aum Patchrapa, Ken Theeradeth and Ken Phupoom)

Hey this thread is something that I would make when the first time I started watching lakorn. I searched for the name of the actors and actresses and couldn't help scratching my head due to numerous hilarious nickname that I came across. (To be honest, I have never saw some Donut, Pancake, Benz, Porshe until I was into dara news) But after that, I get used to it and understand the culture of 'chue len'.
In my native country, we also use nicknames but far more average and rather plain to various Thai nickname. It's basically just to shorten the name when we call the person and the nickname itself still has connection with the real name. All legal documents have the formal names but on daily basis we use the nickname. I think that's apply to Thai too.
and it's some sort of normal to use stage name with the intention to easily remembered by people, even some of Hollywood stars not using their real names. In some asian territories, it's not a strange thing to name changing due to superstition or belief that new name will give the person abundance of luck.

James Jirayu was nicknamed "James" by his mom because she liked James Bond. I don't know about James Ma, but it seems "James" really is his name since "Ma" is his surname.

For me the weirdest name I encountered as new fan was "Bird" (Bird Thongchai McIntyre) especially when he was often referred to as "P'Bird". It was like Big (Brother) Bird....? haha but now, I am more or less used to it.
