Early next morning, Niran is trying to wake up. He breathed in Isra's scent, she had a familiar smell, reminded him of home. The scar he got stung as he tried to lift his head. The bandage was on too tight. He lifted it off, caressing the wound. He opened one eye and looked up into the sky, the sun was up, this made it hard to making out whatever was flying in the sky. He couldn't feel his left arm, the arm Isra was sleeping on. He was still tucked under her neck, he was surprised they were in that position. He lifted her arm away from his neck, got up to look at her face. A piece of hair covered her eye, he slowly brushed it off. He tried waking her up.
"Isra...Miss Sucinda, wake up...hey...."
Isra heard his voice and tried opening her eyes against the sunlight. Niran came in between the sun's light to make it easier for Isra to open her eyes. Using her hands, she wiped her eyes and clearly looked at Niran.
"Huh?" she said.
"Wake up, we got to find a way to get back home."
Isra fully awake now, sits up and distances herself from Niran.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" she said before being silent.
"Mean to what?"
"...sleep...so close to you..." she said, now standing up and wiping off the dirt on herself. She was nervous. "Uh, nothing happened though."
Niran stood up.
"Just how close were you to me?" Smiled Niran. "I could have sworn I felt you all over me...."
Isra's face turned red, just when she was about to say something Niran saw that she was having a hard time so he cut her off.
"And you claim nothing happened..." grinned Niran as he walked pass her.
Isra stood, feeling stupid, she followed him finally.
"Nothing happened!" she said to him.
"And I believe you."
They began walking to find a way out of the area. The afternoon rolled around, they were following the river and at last they found a road and an empty farm house. Isra couldn't walk anymore, she was so hungry, starving for days.
"Niran, can't we find somewhere that food would exist? I am too hungry." groaning with her hungry stomach.
Niran turned around to Isra, they were a few feet away from one another. Niran sighed.
"If we can't get out of here earlier, then its because of you." he said. "We'll stay at that farm house tonight. The river, its close by, I'll try to catch something."
Isra smiled with the thought of grilled fishes. She ran into the farm house. By night time, the sky turned black and a storm roamed across the land. Niran had already started a fire in the farm house. He and Isra warmed up by the fire and grilled two tiny fishes for each of them. Isra ate her whole fish in a few minutes.
"You must be very very hungry" said Niran watching with amazement. He had never seen a girl eat so fast.
Isra smiled in embarrassment. Chewing away her food slowly. Her smile turned into a frown.
"Before, I thought about how I would get away from those bad men. Now, I wonder how my family is doing."
She lost her appetite and threw the remaining fish skeleton into the fire, watching it burn.
"I miss them, I've put them into danger...haven't I?"
"...I think you've protected them as best you can."
"I hope they are all well."
"I know they'll be fine, we'll be home in no time too."
"I never got the chance to say this, but I wish your friend well. I know how it feels when you care so much about someone else. Just the thought of them disappearing from the face of this Earth is unbearable."
Niran gave a small smile.
"I'm sure he'll appreciate your words."
She smiled.
"What made you want to be an undercover officer?"
"My mother. She's the only person I appreciate, really. She wanted me to do what I wanted. She was the only one who believed in me."
"And your father?"
Niran felt uncomfortable talking about his father.
"...he, he wasn't really in my life. He was more like a shadow."
"...Uh..."
"He remarried without my mom knowing five years ago and-"
"You still haven't forgiven him."
"...Right."
Niran didn't want to continue the conversation so he stood up and walked to his hay bed.
"Get some sleep, we have to leave early." he said roughly lying down.
"Your just like my sister, no matter how much I show my love towards her, she notices nothing and does the opposite." Isra told him. "I'm sure your father loves you a lot, but you grew to not notice his love."
Isra became silent. She stared into the fire. Niran was listening to her story.
At her home that night, her family was forced out of the their home. Dao got into trouble with schooling. Her father didn't have enough money to pay for the tuition so they fell into a huge debt.
The next morning, Isra and Niran continued to walk, they found a town at last. At the town there was a pay phone. Isra called home but there was no answer. She is beginning to worry. Niran kept an eye around, just in case men were after them.
Niran found out where they were and requested a cab to send them back to Bangkok. They arrived at Isra's house late at night. They were departing at her home.
"I guess this is good bye." said Isra while standing next to the cab with Niran.
"Good bye." said Niran.
Isra turned to leave but turned back to Niran.
"Eh, will we meet again?" she asked.
Niran thought about it.
"Of course."
Isra was relieved to hear this.
"I should go now. Good night." she finally left to go home.
Niran went into the taxi and left. Isra ran back to the street to watch the taxi leave.
The door to her house had a large "SOLD" sign. The house was empty. Isra walked around the house to find anyway to get in, for she had to spend the night somewhere. No luck, she was stuck outside. No one to go to....She sat on her porch and broke down thinking she harmed her own family.
