This is why I prefer K/C dramas/series.

I feel they have more choices/genre....they have more productions...web dramas/series

Many actors are supporting....earned their spot to leading roles and better scripts....they also pick and choose ...many auditions....seeking good content

I feel Gmm is sort of doing that with their nadao actors...Namtarn T. Is playing versatile roles. Her recent role as female fatale rai in the player. Displays her acting abilities

Wait what? How a fine man like Great is still single? Dude has one of the most attractive and manliest looks I've ever seen. I would love to take him too lmao. Not gonna lie he stole my heart back when Fai Chon Saeng aired! I wonder what kind of gfs he is looking for so that I can start fill out an application and send it too him lol.

The problem with the Thai Ent. industry is their favoritism.

The other bigger issue is their restrictions on actors/actresses being locked in long term contracts to specific channels instead of being managed by an agency that can send them to any channel (like in other Asian countries). Therefore we get repetitive pairings, boring pairings that don't have chemistry but have star power because of their backing... etc.

The writing doesn't encompass a variety of genres because they like to stick to what already works.

Hopefully they (the leaders in that industry) realize that Thai lakorns have grown on a global level.

On another note, Alek is kinda sorta in a friend-lationship with Bow. Boy is in the middle of courting Faye of the girl group FayeFangKaew.

Favouritism and politics exist in all industries, and in entertainment industries everywhere. The whole artiste contract system is not exclusive to Thailand too, there are other countries with similar systems as well. The artistes are like products for the channels, who are the ones investing in them so they just want a guaranteed return on investment, that’s all. In the age of global entertainment and talent, it’s getting harder to maintain this system though. The way it can happen in Thailand is by having people with big enough capital and influence to start talent agencies and pull enough major stars with them. But this person will still need to maintain good relationships with all the channels. Right now it’s really difficult, and I suspect it’s the tv stations that have a lot of power.

Nadao/GMM can sense the changing tastes of audience, that’s why they’re smart to target the younger gen who are more internet-savvy and have tastes similar to overseas audiences. As much as the channels respect the experience of seniors in the industry, they really need younger people in management to take the industry into the future. And by younger I’m talking about people in the 40s or 30s LOL.

But is the same formula working when the rating has dropped....a high rating used to be double digits....not it a 7-8....7 and above is rare...heck 6 is high for thr lakorns...

Sometime I like the cliche trope in small doses
....but not 90% of the time

I'm currently watching city of streamer....beautiful wardrobe....smart F.L....so far so good in content and writing

Maybe Thai industry needs to adopt the turkish method. Where if a drama isn't doing well in rating they cancel them without regret. I have watched a few dramas and all of a sudden it's canceled without an ending lol. Every time you watch a turkish drama it's at your own risk. And then there's the extreme opposite where if a drama is doing well in rating, it can go as high as 350+ episodes hahaha.

Then their tv screens will be full of reruns? Can’t have screens running empty without programs. ;)

I understand audience viewing patterns have changed and it will be very difficult to get back old ratings numbers. But there is too little innovation. We discussed artiste contracts a few times but aren’t production companies and directors also tied to the channels?

I would like to think if the channel canceled a drama another one is already in line to take over. I was watching a drama recently and it was canceled, I think, at episode 13. And it was a one episode weekly drama. The channel announced the drama was going to be canceled 2 days prior to the episode airing and a new drama would take its place. I have a feeling once the rating starts sliding, the channels are already preparing themselves.

Directors/Producers? I think they are contracted as well. Someone that has more knowledge can explain it better. But usually the ones I watched from them they tend to only stay in one channel. I am sure Thai industry has very experienced and talented people, but somehow people or the channel are scared to try new and different things.

There's a thing with American shows. They had low ratings because not enough people are watching it, even though the show is good. Some shows tend to be highly underrated. Canceling it can sometimes be a bad thing because other people have different tastes and wanting another season.

But every industry boils down to money. If a show isn't making money then they quickly shut it down. I think Turkish industry are the fastest to pull the plug. Most industries at least aired the entire episodes that's slated for the drama. Turkish be, nope...if the ratings aren't good they don't care.

I know some shows I wanted a season 2 so bad but season 1 barely make it. A show to the channel is only as good as the rating. Because ratings generate money. I am follow or was following a Turkish drama. Which absolutely love the first 110 episodes. And now, it is at 352 episodes and the main leads just signed for season 3. So by the time it’s all said and done, it will 500+ episodes lol. I stopped at 212 episodes hahahaha. My nerves only carried me so far.

Although I deplore turkish drama that was killed half way, what I like about it is the their production value is so on point nowadays, costume, makeup, music.. they really put all out effort for it.

I imagine is Thai lakorn did half of what Turkish series did, it would be talk about non-stop:pancarta:

although some drama stop half way, I still rewatch it just for aesthetic…hahaha

True.. Turkish dramas are visual as heck. The drama tale of the island (or something close to that). The ML is so darn drool worthy but I was mesmerized by the FL more. The way they dressed her was just everything. Sometimes, when they have 2 extremely attractive people as leads, I am not sure if I even pay attention to the plot half the time.

Thai lakorns need a few changes and I think it could be competitive. I was watching a lakorn on Netflix and it was a remake of a Korean drama "Hello Monster". It's actually a decent remake. But Hello Monster has a very beautiful ending song...while Thai remake has no music at all. And they picked a FL that looks like she can still be in high school to be a cop. And they dressed her in clothes like she can't afford to buy clothes that fit her properly. Other than that, I was hooked to the drama even when I don't like crime dramas. But the ML has such a soothing voice though. I rewatched it for his voice alone lol.
