Chapter Seven

"I can't believe you asked that girl to go shopping with you," Sunny said to his mother.
He smiled slightly and shook his head at the thought of Roong.
Kaewphila was silent as she sat there frozen, dozed off into space. Tonmai had walked out of her life for over 20 years now but she still couldn't forget him. For a long time, her heart ached for him and up to this very day, her feelings for him did not change. Sure Sunny's father changed her life and mended her heart but Tonmai's memory still buried deep within her.
"Mom," said Sunny.
Kaewphila remembered the day that she had left her twin sons in front of Fahsai Orphanage. It was as if it were still yesterday. Two innocent little souls being abandoned by their mother. It was her own fault that her twin sons were lost now.
"Mom," said Sunny again.
He waved his left hand in front of his mother's face and Kaewphila suddenly snapped back into reality.
"What?" she asked.
She was on the verge of tears just thinking about her past.
"Are you okay?" Sunny asked her. "You don't look too good."
"I'm fine," said Kaewphila. "I was just thinking...nothing...how was work today?"
"It...it was great," replied Sunny. "Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes, I am," said Kaewphila, forcing a smile so that her son would stop questioning her.
"How was your day with that girl?" Sunny asked her.
"Noo Roong," began Kaewphila. "She's a very sweet and lovely girl."
Sunny made a face.
"Really?" he asked.
"She is," said Kaewphila. "Have you ever asked her where she was from and who her parents are?"
"I did," replied Sunny. "She never responded with a valid answer. I honestly think there's something funny about her. I mean, think about it. What kind of young lady spends money as if she grew money trees in her backyard? Where are her parents? Don't they worry about their money and daughter at all?"
"How long has she stayed here?" asked Kaewphila.
"Two weeks now," replied Sunny. "And everyday, she eats out and shops like there's no tomorrow."
Kaewphila smiled.
"You worry about her don't you?" she asked her son.
Sunny gulped and thought for a moment.
"I guess I am because she is under our care," he said. "She's staying in our hotel which means her safety is our responsibility and concern."
He grabbed the glass of water before him and took a sip of the ice, cold water.
"Well if that's the case, you should watch out for her," said Kaewphila. "A young woman with unlimited amount of money attracts bad people. She could be robbed or even worse, killed."
Sunny nodded.
"Why don't you ask her to accompany you to Khun Prarop Thepborisut's welcoming party?" asked Kaewphila.
Sunny nearly choked on his water.
"Arai na krub?" he asked, wiping his mouth. "Aren't you going with me?"
"I am but you should ask her to go too," said Kaewphila. "Perhaps, Noo Roong could make some friends."
"Fine, I will but I am only doing so because you've asked me too," said Sunny, with a half smile.
For some reason, his heart leapt when his mother suggested that he take Roong to the party too.

Roong was sleepy soundly and comfortably in bed with the blankets covering her entire body when she instantly awoke to the loud, rapping noises outside her door. With her eyes half open, she glanced at the digital LED clock on the nightstand beside her bed.
"8:00!" she exclaimed.
Now she was wide awake.
"Who the hell is knocking on my door at this hour?" grunted Roong.
She got up from bed, lazily walked to the door, and peeked through the pinhole. It was Sunny.
"What the hell is that crazy guy doing here early this morning?!" Roong asked herself in a loud whisper.
Shocked to see him dressed sharply while she was in a state of embarrassment, Roong ran quickly into her room and grabbed her bathrobe. She hastily threw it on, adjusted her hair, and went to open the door. Still knocking, Sunny accidentally knocked Roong on the forehead.
"Aow!" she yelped. "Why did you hit me?!"
"Sorry," said Sunny, genuinely breaking into laughter.
He walked into her room casually and ordered her to get ready.
"Get ready for what?" asked Roong.
"To go to breakfast," replied Sunny. "We've got a long day ahead of us."
"Huh?" said Roong in a state of confusion.
"Go-get-ready-now," said Sunny slowly. "Go on."
"And why should I listen to you?" asked Roong. "Most importantly, what are you doing here?"
Sunny rolled his eyes and shook his head. He looked like he was about to go nuts.
"My Mom asked me to ask you to go to Khun Prarop Thepborisut's welcoming party," said Sunny.
"Your Mom asked me to go...wait, what?" asked Roong.
"Don't make me repeat it," said Sunny. "You're going to the welcoming party with me tonight. Clear now?"
"No," said Roong. "I'm not going until you ask me nicely. You can't just barge into my room and give out orders like that. I'm a princess, not a soldier."
She folded her arms and pursed her lips.
Sunny laughed.
"Princess?" he repeated.
Without notice, Sunny picked Roong up off her feet and carried her to the bedroom.
"Let me go! Let me go!" she screamed, kicking and hitting him.
He accidentally tripped over a pillow on the ground and both of them fell onto the bed. He was on top of her. Before he knew it, Sunny was staring into her beautiful pair of brown eyes. Their lips almost touched and they both could feel each other's hearts racing. Just then, she pushed him off and he fell to the side. Sunny got up and straightened his suit and tie.
"Erm...sorry," he said. "Go ahead and get ready then. We'll go out to breakfast first and then proceed to shopping for your evening gown for the party tonight and...
"I get it," said Roong, getting up from the bed. "I'll go now."
Sunny walked out to wait in the living room while Roong got ready. He sat down on the sofa and buried his face into the palm of his hands. He had just had the best feeling ever. It was a good feeling but also weird because he had never felt like that towards any woman before.
Roong grabbed a fresh, new towel off the door hanger and walked into the bathroom. She swung the towel over her shoulder and looked into the mirror. She replayed the accidental moment again and pressed her right hand over her lips. He had almost kissed her. Roong smiled. It was a good feeling.

[CHAPTER SEVEN CONTINUED]

"Finally," said Sunny, getting up from the couch when Roong stepped into the living room.
She swung her bag graciously over her shoulder and folded her arms.
"Oh come on, you're lucky I was quick," said Roong. "Usually, I take longer than this."
"I don't want to imagine that," said Sunny.
He motioned for her to move it and after making a face at him, Roong walked forward. He opened the door for her, followed her out into the hall, and closed the door back gently.
"I don't even know these people yet you're asking me to go?" Roong asked.
"You will get to know them," said Sunny. "And don't embarass me in front of people."
"Oh don't worry, I will," said Roong, sarcastically.
They reached the first floor and walked up to Sunny's mother, Kaewphila, who was waiting in the lobby.
"Aow Noo Roong," said Kaewphila, completely ignoring Sunny.
"Sawadee ka," said Roong.
She had gotten used to the Thai 'wai' by now.
"Well let's get going," said Sunny.
Nearby, Wattana watched on closely as Her Highness Roongranee got into the car with the Thai strangers. He flagged down a taxi and directed the driver to follow Sunny's Lotus Elise.

Narin placed two cups of coffee on the table and shoved one towards Nathlada.
"Drink," she told Natwara. "You might need the caffeine for tonight."
"What does that mean?" asked Natwara.
"Aow," said Narin. "You're going to be busy dodging your ex-boyfriend, Sunny, and Khun Prarop, the hi-so guy that has a crush on you. Man, I can't believe you dated one of the three musketeers, grew up with another one, and the other happens to be your cousin. Jeng wa!"
"Baa ler?" said Nathlada. "How do you know Khun Prarop has a crush on me? I don't think so."
"Aoww, if he doesn't, why did he buy you a new phone?" asked Narin. "And, he had it delivered right to your house. In addition, I can tell by the way he makes eye contact with you. He the has the hots for you, sure!"
"Yae baa," said Nathlada. "No wonder people despise reporters. They think of the most insane things and write about it."
"I'm not going to write about it," said Narin. "Even though it will be a hot topic, I can't expose my best friend's life like that."
"Hai mun jing tur," said Nathlada.
She finally took a sip of her coffee and got up from the chair.
"Where are you going?" asked Narin.
"To get ready for Khun Prarop's welcoming party tonight," Nathlada replied. "I have to go because my parents were invited."
"All the hi-so people are invited probably," said Narin.
"Well aren't you going with me?" asked Nathlada.
"I'm not hi-so," replied Narin. "Besides, I just got into with that Chanon guy. If he sees me, he'll probably pick on me."
"If you don't go with me, I'll be bored," said Nathlada. "Please go with me?"
"Fine," said Narin, giving in.
"No cameras," said Nathlada, reminding her friend.
"I know geez," said Narin.

No worries! I won't be dropping any of my projects. Will continue all three that I'm working on now.

^I am thinking upcoming chapter will be a bit long...gonna try to create some suspense. Last few chapters have been a drag: the characters meeting, the characters getting to know each other...blah, blah, blah! Now on with the real stuff!
