Chapter 21

In the dead of night while both princesses were asleep, Prin carefully crept away from the campsite, leaving Nadech in charge of the women’s safety. Nadech wished he could go too because there were some things he had hoped to clear up with Natwara. Even though his romantic feelings for her had suppressed to zero percent now, he felt bad that he left her hanging for so long.
“I probably have to let those feelings die with the old Nadech,” Nadech told Prin.
Prin put one hand over his buddy’s shoulders and gulped, looking at the two princesses, who were both asleep near the fire.
“Right now, we have to put them first,” said Prin. “Let me take care of the issue regarding Natwara. I behold the princesses’ safety in your hands.”
Nadech nodded and watched Prin set out into darkness. This was ancient times; there were lights excepts for the small, twinkling stars in the night sky.

By now, Prin had already knew the kingdom from the back of his hand. He felt like he had been imprisoned here for years even it had only been nine months. From day one when he woke up on Princess Minthida’s bed, he knew that he would be stuck in a sticky situation where it was hard to unglue, untangle himself from.
Prin arrived at the palace moments later and took a deep breath before cautiously entering. He had to be careful  not to be caught by the guards because in a warring era like this, he could be killed instantly. This was going to be difficult because without the knowledge of Natwara’s location, it would be searching for a needle buried deep in the ocean.
It is now that Prin had realized that this palace is indeed very large. He hadn’t noticed it in the past because there were only three places that he needed to know and go to: the royal court, Princess Minthida’s chamber, and Jao Sompohb’s chamber, and not to mention his own separate housing that the king had provided for both him and Nadech, which was also considered on royal grounds.
Sweat had almost completely covered Prin’s face but he did not bother to wipe it because he needed to focus on directions. It was very important that he looked out for the guards and soldiers and he had to keep that in mind as he searched for Natwara.
“Who’s there?!”
Prin ducked immediately behind a tall tree and several tall hedges. He peeked through the branches and leaves into the distance at two guards holding torches walking in his direction. They looked around wildly and called to a moving figure in the opposite direction to come out of hiding. Prin watched and was careful not to make a sound.
When the figure did not come out, one of the guards approached those bushes and pulled out Prin’s goal, Natwara!
“Nat,” Prin gasped. He covered his mouth and watched to see what the guards were going to do.
“Oh, it’s you!” said the guard to Natwara. “What are you doing out here so late?”
“I’m new here and I am having trouble falling asleep,” replied Natwara, calmly. “I just wanted to take a walk, am I at fault for that?”
Prin knew that she was very scared. He had to help her.
“But you’re getting married tomorrow,” said the other guard. “You should be happy and feel very fortunate to wed Prince Nattawut.”
Prin’s eyes widened and his jaws dropped. He was sure that he heard correctly. Now, his mind filled up with more questions that he was itching to ask Natwara.
“If you were me and is forced to marry someone in a strange land, how would you feel?” Natwara asked the two guards. “Would you be able to sleep well? I’ve been stuck in this kingdom for what seem to be like years now and I haven’t a clue of how I got here and why I am doing this. If you guys want to report me and turn me in or kill me, do as you please because I am absolutely tired of this nightmare!”
Prin’s heart pounded. How dare she has the nerves to speak like that?! Has she no fear?!
“But you are going to stop a clash of two powerful kingdoms,” said one of the guards. “You should be happy to help so many innocent people.”
“Impersonating a princess and being forced to marry a prince for two kingdom’s good relations,” said Natwara. “If this information leaks out, I will die but I will not die in peace!”
Prin closed his eyes and bit his lips. This is all a dream. This all had to be a dream. How could Natwara end up in this situation when he, Prin, is responsible for all of these misfortunate events and happenings?
“I’m so sorry Nat,” Prin said quietly.
A tear trickled down his handsome, yet dirt-covered face. “I’m very sorry.”

BOOM!
Thunder and lightning roared and crackled throughout the night, replacing Bangkok’s calm, starry skies with atrocious weather. It had been like this for several days now yet, no signs of rain, not even a single droplet.
Officer Nattaporn sat down on the couch and thanked Pakorn for the cup of coffee he had made for her. For the past few weeks, the duo worked together to investigate the mysterious disappearances of Prin, Nadech and most recently, Natwara.
Pakorn shook his head at the gloomy weather outside the window and sat down next to Officer Nattaporn.
“I wonder how long this weather will rage on,” he said. “How are we supposed to carry on the investigation if it’s always like this?”
He shook his head again and lied back on the couch. Suddenly, Officer Nattaporn stood straight up and rushed to the coffee table, typing away on her laptop.
“What’re you doing?” he asked her.
“I just remembered something,” she said, completely ignoring his question.
“I wasn’t asking that,” he said coolly.
“Every time one of your friends disappeared, it was in the forest, right?” asked Officer Nattaporn.
“Mmm,” Pakorn nodded, ruffling through his hair. “And?”
“And it was during a storm, right?” asked Officer Nattaporn.
“Mmm,” Pakorn nodded again. “Hey!”
It suddenly occurred to him that she had a point. Pakorn rushed beside her and watched as she pulled up a map of the forest.
“I am beginning to think Ajarn Krerk is right,” said Officer Nattaporn. “These disappearances are linked to each other. Why is it that they disappear in the same forest and possibly, the same spot and at the time of a storm?”
Pakorn shrugged.
“Only Ajarn Krerk has the answer,” he replied.
“Well, what are we waiting for?” Officer Nattaporn asked, closing the top fold of her laptop and stuffing it into her messenger bag.
“We’re going now?” asked Pakorn, puzzled.
“Well, is there a better time?” Officer Nattaporn shot back. “We’ve been working together for a while not and I just now realized that you are slow.”
Pakorn stared at her blankly and she pulled him out the door, leading him to his truck.
“My car is out of gas so we’ll take yours,” she said, holding out her hand.
“I’ll drive,” said Pakorn.
“Fine,” said Officer Nattaporn, throwing her stuff in the back seat.
On the way to Ajarn Krerk’s home, Pakorn called Phupoom and Jarinporn to tell them that they could possibly crack the mystery. Jarinporn offered to help but Pakorn advised her to stay put until they obtained more detailed information. At this point, they all began to realize that the three disappearances could be related to the Kingdom of Morakot.
“I am convinced,” Officer Nattaporn told Ajarn Krerk.
“Well, to be honest with you guys, I’ve hypothesized the same thing for the longest,” said Ajarn Krerk. “Sit down.”
He pointed at the chairs opposite him and took a look at the map Officer Nattaporn had pulled up. Then, he twisted the laptop so that they could see it too.
“See that?” he asked, pointing at the map.
Ajarn Krerk pulled up another map and digitally placed it on top of the one Officer Nattaporn had pulled up.
“This the ancient Kingdom of Morakot,” said Ajarn Krerk. “This was a part of our mission, which could’ve been a scientific breakthrough discovery.”
“And?” asked Pakorn.
“And I think that Prin, Nadech, and Natwara have associations with the ancient Kingdom of Morakot,” replied Ajarn Krerk. “Take a look at this.”
He handed the two a black and white photo that seemed to be extracted off the web.
“I was doing research and came upon this photo,” said Ajarn Krerk.
“That’s…Prin!” gasped Pakorn.
“I’ve examined it carefully already and can conclude that this photo is not photoshopped,” said Ajarn Krerk. “What you see here is clearly a Prin lookalike dressed in a warrior’s robes during the Morakot era. It was taken by a European explorer, well, more like drawn by a European explorer, or should I say, sketched?”
“I don’t think this is a coincidence if it is this persuading,” said Officer Nattaporn.
“Seems like we have to go on another mission,” said Pakorn.
Their meeting concluded with the trio packing up for another trip to the forest. This time, they were going to pick up the head monk, the same one who once foretold Prin and Natwara’s future, also coincidentally a descendant of the royal Morakot bloodline.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prin followed Natwara until she reached Princess Minthida’s chamber, which Prin assumed the royal figures advised her to stay until her wedding with Prince Nattawut. He cornered her into a wall in the room and shut her mouth with one hand to prevent any screaming or yelling.
Natwara immediately began to break into tears followed by uncontrollable sobs.
“Is it really you?!” she gasped so that no one could hear her.
Prin nodded and hugged her tightly. He patted the back of her head and bit his lips, trying to hold back his tears.
“I thought I would never see you again,” she sobbed.
“Me too,” said Prin.
He gulped and looked into her eyes.
“I have a lot to tell you,” he began. “I need to fill you in of what I’ve been through and I just need you to listen.”
Natwara remained silent and could only cry while listening to Prin’s story. When he confessed that he no longer had romantic feelings for her, she felt hurt and confused. She felt as though she had been backstabbed, piercing through the front, shattering her heart.
“I never knew that it would be like this,” he continued. “I’m so sorry.”
“Princess Minthida,” said Natwara, gulping her saliva build up during her cries of sorrow. “She must be a wonderful, powerful woman.”
“No,” said Prin. “You’re more powerful because it takes a strong woman to be in this position, in your position, to create a friendly bond between two kingdoms. It takes a strong woman to be a princess and you are the one.”
“But I cannot compare to your princess,” said Natwara.
Prin shook his head and wiped her tears.
“No,” he said. “Nat, just remember that what we’re all doing now is for two kingdom’s happiness. In the end, we’ve altered history and our hearts but our good feelings remain the same.”
“You don’t have to make it seem convincing,” said Natwara. “I understand. I know what to do. Prince Nattawut has been very nice to me. If I can bring happiness to so many people, why not go for it? I should be happy about it too. Maybe this is what Loong Phor forecast means. Our soulmates are in a different world. It all makes sense now.”
Prin nodded and apologized once more. His heart broke as he backed away from Princess Minthida’s chamber. His heart broke because after speaking what he had held inside for so long, it felt as if it had exploded into a million pieces. Now, it was time to take those million broken pieces of himself and recreate a stronger man, a brand new man that was willing to stand up for love, the love for his princess and the love of his kingdom.

Lol. No, you didn't miss anything. Your question will be answered in the next chapter. I wrote it by concentrating on this: since Princess Minthida ran away, the royals aren't going to release that to tarnish their royal image so since no one outside the kingdom has ever seen Princess Minthida anyway, they had Natwara impersonate Princess Minthida until they find her. Since Natwara is came along Prince Nattawut anyway, it is perfect timing. Might be confusing but will clear up. ;)
Hopes that makes a little more sense though.

Chapter 22 [Part One]

Prin stood there and looked at Nadech’s lifeless body. Tears streamed down his face creating a scene of sorrow and despair. His heart ached for his buddy and Princess Urassaya, who was kneeling beside the body, crying aloud, her voice roaring in the distance.
Prin’s world had tumbled deeper and deeper into hell and once again, he had fallen apart completely. This time, there was no coming back or rebuilding a happy future because everything that he had was gone.
His knees fell onto the ground and he dug his face into his bloodied hands, the blood of Princess Minthida and Nadech. Princess Minthida. He was never going to get her back now.
“If you ally with me now and assist me in my battles, then Princess Minthida shall be yours,” said Pra Jao Sompohb. “Just look around you. Your friend is gone. You cannot return home. There is no sign of happiness but if you choose correctly, you can be happy and the whole kingdom will be happy and peaceful.”
“I’ve lost everything already and I’m not going to let others lose their everything too because of me,” said Prin quietly without looking up directly at the king.
“We’ve all come too far to go back,” said Pra Jao Sompohb. “Your earlier forecasts of this has brought upon this devastation.”
“This is history!” exclaimed Prin, jumping up suddenly. “All of this was supposed to happen! I accept that it was my fault to forecast everything to you beforehand but I did that for everybody’s own good not as an open opportunity to strike battles for kingdom expansion! But this is history, it is meant to be.”
“If that’s so, then I must kill you,” said Pra Jao Sompohb. “Since you refuse to help me and my kingdom, the thousands of people who are awaiting the glorious day but that day will never come because of your cowardness.”
“Then be it for I am a coward,” said Prin.
And those were his last words.

“Prin! Prin!”
Prin sat up with as if he had been electrified. His face and clothes were drenched his sweat.
“You’re burning up man!” Nadech exclaimed. “Are you alright?”
“I am…I’m…I just…
Prin sighed.
“I’m fine,” he said finally. He didn’t want to tell Nadech that he just had the most horrible nightmare ever that he, Nadech…
Prin sighed again.
“We must turn ourselves in,” he said to Nadech. “We all must return to the kingdom.”
Nadech shook his head. “Why?” he asked confused with Prin’s sudden but rash idea.
“Because the more we run from our fears, we will meet and end with our fates,” replied Prin.
“I don’t get it,” said Nadech.
“Water!”
The guys looked up at the two princesses who had just returned from the nearby stream with water. After one look at Prin’s face, Princess Minthida kneeled beside him and placed one hand over his forehead.
“Are you al…
“I’m fine,” Prin answered before she could finish asking.
“You seem really pale,” said Princess Urassaya. “What did you do last night? Were you up running around everywhere?”
“Princess!” Nadech gasped and she laughed.
“I was only joking,” said Princess Urassaya. “In a time like this, a little bit of humor is necessary.”
Prin cracked a smile and Nadech shook his head.
“Shall we keep going now?” asked Princess Minthida.
Nadech and Prin exchanged looks, causing the two princesses to exchange puzzled looks too.
“What’s wrong?” asked Princess Urassaya. “Are you two hiding something from us?”
“I…er…we…
“There is something that we must clear up before proceeding anywhere,” said Prin finally.
He stood up and turned his back, looking into the distance.
“I went to the palace last night,” he admitted.
“You what?!” gasped Princess Minthida, grabbing his arm.
“Are you crazy?!” asked Princess Urassaya. “Why would you go back?!”
“There’s this woman named Natwara,” Nadech began. “It’s a long story…
“Everything with you two is a long story,” Princess Urassaya butted.
“Will you listen first?” asked Nadech.
Princess Urassaya pouted and angrily sat down on a log. Prin proceeded with the story-telling, making note of how he, Nadech, and Natwara got caught up in the storm and the possibility of their time-traveling to fix and amend history. He ended the story of his encounter with Natwara from last night.
“I don’t understand why Natwara is in Princess Minthida’s place?” asked Princess Urassaya. “Why would she sacrifice herself?”
Nadech enlightened her on the answer and everyone came to realize that the changes inflicted upon this history was brought forth my Natwara. No wonder Princess Minthida scarcely has records of her existence.
“Everything just falls into place,” Nadech thought to himself.

Chapter 22, Part II

“I know you’re unhappy, I know. I also know that you’re angry and disappointed, disappointed that you didn’t end up with the man of your dreams and angry that you’re in this situation. All I can say is that I’m sorry, sorry for everything that has happened and happened so quickly. But you must know something, Natwara, no matter what happens in the future, I will not let anything happen to you. My love will encircle and protect you from all dangers. I promise.”
Natwara looked up at her new groom. Tears glistened in her eyes. She didn’t know if this was caused by anger, stress, or true love striking her heart. It could be all of the above.
Within a short period of time, she realized that Prince Nattawut was very gentlemanly, fit for prince and heir to the throne. Their wedding was tied the two clashing and neighboring kingdoms together and if it weren’t for that solid reason, Natwara would never have agreed to take this Princess Minthida’s place.
“The people of the kingdom shall never know of your true identity and this swap,” said Prince Nattawut. “Even I’ve seen Princess Minthida only once, not to mention everyone else, citizens and peoples of this kingdom alike, they have never seen her.”
Natwara wasn’t used to this lavish, if you could call it that, way of life. There were servants and maids waiting to come to her assist her in nearly everything. They highly respected her as a princess and even bowed to her when she appeared.
“You will get used to it,” said Prince Nattawut.
He smiled and left the room.
By nightfall, when Prince Nattawut did not return to their new room, Natwara went to bed. She was exhausted, tired from everything that she had gone through the past few months. She fell asleep immediately.
Meanwhile, Prince Nattawut is in a deep conversation with his father, King Mata, ruler of the Wasuthep kingdom. There is no one in the room but the father-son duo, a perfect time for King Mata to discuss the next step of their plans.
“I can’t,” said Prince Nattawut, shaking his head. “I must honestly tell you now that I no longer wish to be a chess piece of this reality. It’s not a game. Many dangers lie ahead of the road we are taking now.”
“What do you mean by this?” asked King Mata. “You mean you want to throw this opportunity of expansion and wealth away? Do you realize how much we’re going to lose? We will be crushed by both Nandawat and Morakot!”
“What makes you think Pra Jao Pongwilai will agree to the terms and conditions? I bet you anything that he will not play fair,” said Prince Nattawut.
King Mata smirked and looked away.
“You like that girl don’t you?” he asked his son.
“Khor rub,” Prince Nattawut answered honestly.
“You haven’t even known her for long and you’ve become smitten with her,” said King Mata. “Is this woman your future or is the kingdom your future?”
“What if I say both?” Prince Nattawut asked. “Since this wedding was an agreement to settle ties between our two kingdoms anyway, why not leave it at that? If Nandawat strikes at us, then both us and Morakot will strike back. I’m sure Pra Jao Sompohb has plans in mind. Don’t forget that his kingdom is full of precious natural resources. If we can become allies and defeat Nandawat before they strike us, we will have everything.”
“And you think Pra Jao Sompohb will trust us after a broken compromise with Nandawat?” asked Pra Jao Mata. “When you take a step ahead, you don’t look back but go forward, do you understand my son? There are many royal women out there waiting for you. You don’t need this ordinary woman who is a fake princess right now. If anyone finds out that you’ve married a fake princess, our kingdom will become the laughingstock.”
“Sometimes we must use our hearts more than our brains because it is the heart that will make our life progress,” said Prince Nattawut. “It is the most vital organ.”
“Are you saying that I don’t have a heart?!” Pra Jao Mata roared.
He banged his fists on the table and angrily stood up.
“I didn’t mean like that but sometimes we use our brains so much that we forget what’s in our heart,” said Prince Nattawut. “It’s there but we don’t use it.”
“If I knew you would be weak like this, I never should’ve made you crown prince!” exclaimed Pra Jao Mata. “I thought your little sister was irrational and dumb but you are two are just alike! She ran off with some low-class guy that I’ve never even seen and now you chose this low-class woman over your kingdom! What the hell is wrong with you two?! Huh?!”
“It’s because Nong Urassaya has a heart and she follows her heart,” replied Prince Nattawut. “I want to follow my heart too.”
“Gaw dai!” exclaimed Pra Jao Mata. “You two can go ahead and follow your stupid hearts! When you are in trouble, don’t come crawling back to me because I don’t have a son or daughter that is stupid like this!”
Prince Nattawut wiped his only tear, got up and left his father’s room. He returned to his own room to find his new wife already peacefully asleep.
“Even if the world tumbles, I will shield you,” he whispered into her ear.

The trek forward lies an unknown journey full of mysterious and possible dangers and obstacles but nevertheless, Prin, Nadech and the two princesses, continued forward without thinking twice again the fate of their futures. They had come to an agreement that if they all returned to the Emerald kingdom and turned themselves in, it would only cause confusion and chaos. Even though it meant tarnishing the princesses’ titles and guilt for Prin and Nadech of leaving Natwara in a dangerous situation, it was better than putting everyone else in danger.
“Do you regret coming with me?” Nadech asked Princess Urassaya, when they were both alone near a beautiful stream in the middle of a forest.
“Why do you ask that?” she asked him.
Nadech turned away but Princess Urassaya grabbed his face and kissed him on the nose.
“That is your answer,” she said.
He pulled her into a hug and lied his chin on her right shoulder.
“You’re a princess, a star in the sky and I’m no one with no royal title,” said Nadech. “For you to follow me everywhere in the world, it just makes me feel even guiltier. Why is it that I put three innocent women in dangerous positions? I feel so bad for you, Natwara and Princess Minthida. You don’t have to follow me in this…
Princess Urassaya put one hand over Nadech’s mouth and shook her head.
“I don’t have to but I want to because I love you,” she said.
Nadech was speechless and felt even worse as if he had been crushed by a ton of bricks.

“Jao! Jao! Are you okay?!”
Prin rushed to assist Princess Minthida with her vomiting by gently rubbing her back. It had suddenly occurred to him that Princess Minthida had seemed very unhealthy lately. She vomited nearly every foods she consumed and often had fainting spells.
“I’m fine,” said Princess Minthida, coughing up the last of her vomit.
“Are you sure?” asked Prin. “I think we should go see a doctor. Princess Urassaya told me that you haven’t been yourself lately…
“I…
Before she could even finish speaking, Princess Minthida had collapsed into Prin’s arms.
“Jao! Jao!” Prin tried to revive her by gently shaking her delicate, unconscious body. “Jao!”
She did not open her eyes.
“Nadech!” Prin called out at the top of the lungs. “Aie Dech! Come and help me! Aie Dech!”
Just seconds later, Nadech and Princess Urassaya came running towards him. Both kneeled down next to Prin and the unconscious Princess Minthida.
“What happened?!” asked Nadech frantically. “What’s wrong with her?!”
“She was just vomiting and then she fainted!” Prin said very fast. “Help me!”
“We need to get to a doctor right away,” said Princess Urassaya. “The nearest town is on the border of Nandawat and Wasuthep. I’ll lead.”
Prin nodded and Nadech assisted in helping Princess Minthida in his arms.
They walked non-stop until they reached the small town, where as soon as they entered the main doors, people began to stare at them weirdly.
“This makes me uncomfortable,” said Nadech.
“I know where the doctor is,” said Princess Urassaya, totally ignoring Nadech.
She was a few steps ahead of them and led them to a small house that smelled highly of bitter medicines. After exchanging a few words with the doctor, Princess Urassaya informed them that they are travelers looking for a place to stay overnight due to the illness of a friend.
“My name is Rassa,” said Princess Urassaya to the doctor. “These are my friends, Seua and Singh.”
She pointed from Prin to Nadech.
“And the woman in Nai Seua’s arms is Jun,” said Princess Urassaya, introducing the unconscious Princess Minthida.
The doctor greeted them and welcomed them into his home. He took care of Princess Minthida right away and after a brief checkup, he got up from the chair beside the bed.
“What’s wrong with her doctor?” asked Prin, impatiently.
“She’s fine,” the doctor replied with a smile. “She’s just pregnant and due to lack of nutrition and seemingly exhaustion, it is normal for her to faint for so long.”
Prin, Nadech and Princess Urassaya all exchanged puzzled looks. Nadech and Princess Urassaya both stared at Prin for a long moment and watched as he approached Princess Minthida near the bedside.
“I’m going to be a father,” said Prin, quietly.
