Chapter Seven

Nadech fell out of thin air with a thud and rolled on the ground several times before lying flat on his belly. He perked his head up and looked around. It was dark and quiet and the rain seemed to have stopped as if someone pressed the pause button. Nadech coughed out the little bit of dirt that had gotten into his mouth earlier and got up. He brushed the rest of the dirt off his clothes and put his hands on his hips. He had no idea where he was. There were no tall trees. There was no forest at all. There was no one.
"What the hell is this place?" Nadech asked himself.
He walked around the empty marketplace and finally realized that he had magically landed in a market. What market? He did not know but there was this sudden surge of strange feelings that told him that the incident was weird. Even though it was dark and raining when he arrived at the forest, it was only around 3PM. How did it get dark that fast?
Nadech scratched the back of his head cluelessly and tried to figure out his surroundings. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't figure what the place was. It did not seem familiar to him at all. Suddenly, there were ruffling sounds in the distance and since it was so dark to see, Nadech ducked behind a wooden cart to keep a low profile. Being cautious in an unfamiliar place was a good idea.
"But it is an order that you return," said a male voice.
The figures were getting closer but since the only source of light came from the moon in the sky, Nadech couldn't see the faces. However, he could make out that there was a short figure and taller figure.
"I'm not going," said another voice.
By the looks of the shadow on the ground, Nadech guessed that it was a young boy.
"I'm not going and that's final," said the young boy, pointing at the taller figure. "You may go away now!"
Nadech couldn't help but to smirk and think to himself that the young boy sure was feisty. Without saying another word, the taller figure walked away from the young boy. The young boy, on the other hand, was walking in Nadech's direction. To avoid being seen, Nadech backed away a few steps until he collided with another cart behind him, causing loud banging noises.
"WHO'S THERE?!" the young boy called out, loudly.
Nadech emerged from behind the cart slowly and put both of his hands up over his head as if he were surrendering to a police.
"It's me," said Nadech.
The young boy held up his lamplight and looked at Nadech suspiciously.
"Like I'm supposed to know who you are," he said to Nadech.
"Oh, I'm uh...my name is Nadech," Nadech told him. "Can you tell me what city or province this is?"
"Kingdom of Morakot," the boy replied with a hint of attitude in his voice.
"What?" asked Nadech.
He wanted to make sure he heard right because physically and mentally, he didn't feel right.
"Kingdom of Morakot," the boy repeated. "Why are you dressed like that? How come everyone is dressing like that nowadays? Is it the new trend or something?"
Nadech was beyond confused. The boy just stood there and stared him at him from head to toe.
"What are you looking at?" Nadech asked him.
"Your clothes, of course," replied the boy. "You remind me of this guy I met a while back."
Nadech closed his eyes and shook his head. This was all nonsense and a waste of time. All he wanted to do at the moment was get out of the creepy market.
"Look, I have no idea who you are but since you're here, I need help," said Nadech. "Will you help me?"
"How do I know if you're a good guy or not?" asked the boy. "What if you sexually harass me or rob me, rape me and then kill me?"
"Are you crazy?" asked Nadech. "Look at yourself! You're a boy and I'm a guy! I'm not gay!"
Urassaya forgot for a split second that she was Rath.
"Sorry," said Rath quickly. "Follow me, then."
Nadech shook his head and followed the boy to a nearby funny looking house. Everything seemed so...ancient!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ajarn Krerk shook his head after the phone conversation with Nadech's parents. Like Prin, Nadech had mysteriously disappeared too. What was worse was that he too, disappeared in the forest in the storm. Pakorn, Phupoom, Natwara, and Jarinporn stood there in shock after realizing what had happened to Nadech.
"How could he just disappear like that?" Phupoom asked aloud.
"Do you think he found P'Prin?" Jarinporn added.
"Khun Loong and Khun Bpa said that he left the house around noon yesterday to come out after us in the forest," began Pakorn. "Do you think he even made it here yet?"
"Well of course he has," said Ajarn Krerk, pointing at Nadech's belongings near one of the tents. "His stuff's here."
"Well where the hell is he?" asked Phupoom. "Hopefully, he didn't take on this whole Prin issue alone."
"No, Nadech isn't that type of person," said Natwara. "Nadech and I grew up together. I know him well."
Ajarn Krerk let out a heavy sigh.
"I think I'm going crazy," he said. "Anybody wanna come?"
"We all are going crazy," said Jarinporn. "This is the most unbelievable thing! I mean, how can two guys go missing just like that?"
"Whatever it is, we must find out," said Pakorn. "We must find these two."
"Hopefully, they're both safe and sound," said Phupoom.
Just as they did when Prin went missing, the crew wondered aloud and provided assumptions that were more than unlikely to happen. Questions beginning with "what if" were common now because there were just so many possibilities. Perhaps, they both have gotten lost, kidnapped, trapped...the assumptions were endless.

While trekking in the forest to join the others, Nadech had the strangest, as a matter of fact, the wildest dream ever. He dreamt that he survived a fall from the sky and after asking a stranger of the surroundings was told that he was in the Kingdom of Morakot.
His eyes were still closed but Nadech could feel someone pressing a warm towel over his face as if wiping it. It felt so good that he did not want to open his eyes. He shivered and held his arms up against his chest for warmth.
"You're still cold?"
Nadech thought the girlish voice sounded familiar but for some reason, he felt as though he was in a state of delusion. He was cold and hot at the same time now. The dream was over but Nadech still didn't open his eyes. He felt a small hand press over his forehead.
"You're very warm," Nadech heard the person say.
It was that same voice, a girlish voice similar to the one he had encountered in the dream.
"Just rest here, okay?" said the person. "I'll go buy you some medicine."
Nadech thought to himself even if the person didn't tell him to rest, he would've just lied there eyes closed anyway. There wasn't much he could do as he didn't have the strength to move or even open his eyes. Nadech heard disappearing footsteps and guessed that the person must've left the room. Without trying to figure out what was going on around him at the moment, he continued to sleep.

"Cook? You want to cook?"
Princess Minthida and Nang Noi exchanged weird looks and then turned back to Prin.
"Why do you want to cook? What do you want to cook?" Princess Minthida asked him.
"Well, I like to cook and haven't done so in a while," began Prin. "Besides, there's nothing for me to do and I feel useless so maybe I can cook something for you."
"Mai dai," said Princess Minthida. "That's the servants' job. I can't let you cook for me."
"But I want to and it's the least I could do for you since you helped me out a lot," said Prin. "Besides, I'm craving salad."
"Salad," repeated Nang Noi. "What is salad?"
Prin figured they didn't know what salad was.
"Sounds strange," said Princess Minthida. "I've never heard of such thing."
"It's actually a very yummy and healthy dish that is made of a mix of greens and some vegetables," Prin explained. "And it is topped off with salad dressing like ranch, caesar dressing...
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Princess Minthida.
"Aow la," said Prin. "I'll make it and you and Nang Noi can try it. I think you'll like it."
Nang Noi squealed out of excitement and clapped her hands together.
"What kinds of greens and vegetables do you need?" asked Princess Minthida. "I'll have someone buy them for you."
"No, it's better if I go and buy them myself," said Prin.
"If that's so, I'll let Aie Dum and Aie Khao assist you," said Princess Minthida.
"Mai tong," said Prin. "I can do it. Besides, I am rather considerate of using your people."
"But...
"Trust me," said Prin, interrupting Princess Minthida. "I'll go to the market to buy the necessary ingredients and I'll be back. Don't worry, I know my way around."
"Okay," said Princess Minthida, finally.
At last! Prin would be able to cook up his own food, something normal like he would eat in the 21st century. Not that he didn't like "ancient" food but it got old after a while.
Prin left the palace and went directly to the appropriate vendors to buy the neccessary ingredients for his salad. He could make his own special dressing since salad dressings didn't exist in the immediate era.
"Keep the change."
Just as he was passing by the apothecary, Prin walked backwards a step and peeked into the shop to see Rath paying the vendor. Rath seemed perfectly fine and normal making Prin wondering who the kid was buying medicine for.
"Who's that for?" Prin asked him when Rath stepped out.
"None of your business," replied Rath rudely.
He walked forward but then turned back around slowly and looked at Prin.
"Wait," said Rath. "Actually, it's good to run into you. Think you could help me out a bit?"
"Help?" asked Prin, puzzled.
He couldn't believe a seemingly clever kid like Rath needed help from a normal guy like Prin, himself.
"My friend is sick so I came out to buy him medicine," explained Rath. "Only thing is, I don't know how to boil it and prepare it and what not."
Prin stared at him and burst out laughing. What was this kid playing at, Prin thought to himself. Somehow, he found it funny that Rath did not know how to prepare medicine.
"I'll help you to the best of my ability," said Prin at last.
"Right then," said Rath. "Follow me."
So Prin followed Rath all the way to his home, which turned out to be a decent place but lacked decorations. He wasn't sure if Rath was a street kid after all.
"Where's your friend?" Prin asked him.
"In the bedroom," replied Rath.
Prin pointed to the pillow and blankets on the floor in the small living room.
"Oh, I sleep there," said Rath.
"Your friend is sick," said Prin. "Instead of sleeping inside and keeping an eye on him, you sleep out here?"
He couldn't help but to think that this kid had a little feminine side to him.
"Aow na," said Rath. "I asked you to come help me not judge my house."
"Okay, okay," said Prin, following Rath into the bedroom.
Prin recognized at once Rath's friend on the bed.
"NADECH!" he bellowed, rushing over to his buddy.
Rath scratched his head and watched on with a confused look on his face.
"Aie Dech!"

^So, the alignment is perfectly normal when I write out text here. Don't know what happened last time I posted though. Did the same thing and it came out looking funny. Don't know if bothers y'all but it sure does bother me. I think I'm OCD or something.

Chapter Eight

"Aie Dech, wake up."
Panting heavily out of fear, Prin shook his friend to make him conscious.
"Krai ah?" asked Nadech, in a low croaking voice.
"Chun aeng," replied Prin. "I'm Prin, your friend."
"You two know each other?" asked Rath, standing there watching.
Prin nodded and turned back to Nadech.
"Rath, go get me a tub of cool water and a clean towel," said Prin.
"Okay," said Rath, rushing out of the room.
"Aie Prin, where have you been?" Nadech asked without opening his eyes. "We've all been looking everywhere for you. Nat is so worried about you."
Prin gulped and looked away for a moment. Natwara. How could he have forgotten about her?
Nadech grabbed Prin's arms bringing him back to reality.
"Aie Dech, open your eyes," said Prin.
He yanked his arms from Nadech's grasp and put his right hand over Nadech's forehead.
"You have a high fever," Prin told the unconscious Nadech.
"Maa laew!" shouted Rath.
"Aie Rath, you don't have to shout," said Prin. "I'm right here and my hearing isn't impaired."
"Aow," said Rath. "I'm used to...
"Used to what?" asked Prin, cutting him in.
Rath was going to say that he was used to screaming. Back at home, Rath used to scream and yell at the tards all the time. They were probably glad now that he was gone for the while because even Rath, himself got tired of the palace life.
"Aie Rath!" said Prin in a loud voice, but not exactly a shout.
"Hah?" said Rath cluelessly.
"I said give me the tub of water and towel," said Prin. "Didn't you hear me?"
"Oh," said Rath, looking at the tub of water he was holding.
He handed it to Prin and sat down next to the bed.
"Where's that medicine that you bought earlier?" Prin asked Rath.
"On the table in the living room," replied Rath.
"I need you to prepare it for me," said Prin.
"I already told you I don't know how," said Rath.
"Well, I'm about to instruct you so listen," snapped Prin.
"Okay," said Rath.
He listened as Prin gave him the directions to boil the water and prepare the medicine. At the same time, Rath was beginning to think that common life was tons harder than palace life. On the positive side, common life was more fun.
Rath disappeared for a good half an hour and when Prin couldn't wait any longer, he went to see what the kid was up to. Luckily, he ran into Rath just as he was re-entering the room.
"Aow," said Prin. "I thought you fell asleep waiting on the water to boil or something."
"Oh come on," said Rath. "How hard could it be? Look here."
He handed Prin the medicine and peeked over his shoulder to glance at Nadech, who was still lying there with eyes closed.
"Dee maak," said Prin, rubbing Rath's head as if he were a six year old kid.
Rath's hat nearly fell off. If it did, he would be in big trouble. They would know he is actually a girl. While Prin fed Nadech the medicine, Rath stood there by the doorway to fix his hat and hair. He stuffed the few dangling strands into the hat and adjusted it straight.
"Aie Rath, come here," said Prin.
Rath did as he was told and went over to Prin and Nadech.
"I need you to hold him up while I feed him this medicine," said Prin.
"Okay," said Rath.
Using all his strength, Rath tried to hold Nadech up but Nadech's back did not move even an inch away from the bed. Prin gave Rath the are-you-serious look and put the bowl of medicine down.
"What kind of man are you?" Prin asked him. "Bpen gay reu bplao wa?"
"Gay," Rath repeated. "What's gay?"
Prin shook his head and told him nevermind.
"You know what," said Prin. "Let's switch places. I hold him up and you feed him the medicine."
"Really," said Rath. "I've never fed anyone before."
"You're beginning to sound like a spoiled brat," said Prin. "Now come on, help me out."
The two switched places and while Prin helped Nadech up for support, Rath fed Nadech the medicine. After about ten minutes, Nadech had consumed all the medicine.
"Alright," said Prin. "I've got to go now before the gates close."
"Gates," said Rath. "You live in the palace?"
"Unfortunately, I do," replied Prin. "It's a long story. I'll explain it to you later. Take good care of my friend."
"Wait," said Rath. "You haven't even told me how you guys know each other."
"I'll explain later," said Prin. "Make sure you take good care of him."
At that split second, Prin took out a small bag filled with money and placed a few coins on the table for Rath. As Prin walked out the house, Rath looked weirdly at the coins on the table.
"What makes him think I need money?" Rath asked himself.
He then returned to the room to check on Nadech.
"You're lucky I didn't abandon you that night."
Rath had to be careful while out and about because unlike the commoners, he was no ordinary person. For personal safety purposes, he was just going to abandon Nadech there in the market that night but since he wasn't a heartless person, Nadech was considered one lucky guy to be saved by this princess in disguise.

Prin returned to the palace just in time and as he expected, Princess Minthida awaited his return near the gates. She rushed up to him with a concerned facial expression. Prin smiled and held up the items he had bought.
"I told you I wouldn't be lost," Prin told her. "I'll go make the salad now. Sorry for the wait."
"No, it's not that," said Princess Minthida.
Prin gulped.
"Well, what is it?" he asked her.
"My father," began Princess Minthida. "My father expects our presence in the court in a few moments. He has gathered all his officials and generals...
"What's going on?" asked Prin.
"Kingdom of Wasuthep has took over a small portion of our border," replied Princess Minthida. "If they do not wish to hear our words in the meantime, it may lead to war."
Finally, it was time, Prin thought to himself. He didn't expect himself to fall into the beginning of the warring period but what more can he do? As Princess Minthida told him, there might be a war in the meantime. However, he didn't want to tell her that there will be one. He shouldn't reveal any information at all. They might consider him a traitor to the kingdom. On the flipside, if he didn't tell them, there was no way he could help them.
"Are you okay?" asked Princess Minthida.
Prin blinked a few times and nodded.
"Yeah," he replied.
He put the items down gently and grabbed Princess Minthida's soft, beautiful hands.
"Don't you worry," he said, gazing into her eyes. "As long as I'm here, I won't let anything happen to you. I will do my best to protect this mighty kingdom but you should know as with other kingdoms in the past, there will be a downfall. There is no kingdom that lives forever and you must understand that."
Princess Minthida was speechless. His words were so touching that it made her emotional. She too, gazed into his eyes and tried to hold back the tears. She couldn't deny it any longer. She was in love with this man.

Nadech woke up feeling sore and a bit dizzy as though he had been hit by a train. The first thing he realized was that he had no clue where he was. He got up and opened the drapes tied up to the bed. Last time he remembered, his bed didn't have drapes. However, this definitely wasn't his bed. Nor was the room. There was an empty bowl near the bedside along with a small tub of water and damp towel.
"Finally up I see."
Nadech was startled by the girlish voice. A young boy who was probably in his teens stood appeared before Nadech. He was holding a tray of food, which he placed on the low table in the middle of the room.
"You must be hungry," the boy said to Nadech.
"Have I seen you before?" Nadech asked him.
"Of course," replied the boy smartly. "Don't you remember?"
Nadech shook his head. He don't remember a single thing and most importantly, he didn't even know what had happened to him.
"Is this your house?" he asked the boy.
"Who's house could it be if it weren't mine?"
Nadech didn't expect the boy to be sassy like that.
"Well how did I end up here?" Nadech asked him.
The boy folded his arms.
"I brought you here, of course," said the boy. "You sure do ask a lot of silly questions. Stop wasting your time. Here, eat."
He jerked his head over at the table behind him and motioned for Nadech to eat. Instead, Nadech just sat there on the bed.
"What city is this?" Nadech asked him.
"I already answered you once before you passed out that night," began the boy. "But, I guess you don't remember. This is the Kingdom of Morakot."
Nadech's eyes widened.
"Wait, what?" asked Nadech, reassuringly. "This can't be...
"Can't be what?" the boy interrupted. "Look, let's save the questions for later. You need to eat first. I promised you friend that I would take good care of you. If he came back to find you all skin and bones, he'd yell at me for sure. Let me tell ya, I don't like it when people yell at me especially when I'm not at fault. Usually, I am the one who gets to yell at people...
"What are you talking about?" asked Nadech.
The boy sighed.
"Just come and eat," he said. "I'll just do the explaining later."
Without further questioning, Nadech walked to the table, sat down on the floor with legs crossed and ate. The food appeared a bit weird but it was good. As he ate, he couldn't help but wonder why the house looked so ancient. It was as if it were a house used to film ancient lakorns or something and not to mention, it was set up that way too.
Suddenly, the boy burst out in laughter. Nadech couldn't figure out what was so funny.
"You have a soup mustache," said the boy, cracking up some more.
He extracted a small pink handkerchief from his pockets and wiped Nadech's mouth.
He sure is handsome, Urassaya thought to herself. Even though she was wiping his mouth, she didn't pay any attention to it. She instead stared into his alluring brown eyes.
"Hey you," said Nadech, breaking the moment of silence.
Urassaya snapped back into reality as Rath again. Why did she feel this way towards that guy, she did not know.
"You alright?" Nadech asked the boy.
"Yeah, I'm fine," replied Rath. "Just eat, I'll uh...go get you some water."
Before Nadech could ask a question, Rath took off like a bullet. Weird!

Phra Jao Sompohb cleared his throat before speaking.
"It has come to my attention that the Kingdom of Wasuthep has taken control of our southern border," the King began. "They have claimed that piece of land as theirs and have offended us by ignoring our presence. We have had the rights to that border for many years and all of a sudden, they decide to trespass into our territory without our consent and take over our land. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?"
"I say we send their King an official letter regarding this matter," said an official.
"I say we go ahead and declare war," said a general. "They disregard our presence anyway so why should we be formal with them?"
"Declaring war shall not be the first step we take in resolving this issue," argued another official. "We are a mighty kingdom and are highly respected by many others and for that reason, we shall first inform them of the issue and hear what they have to say."
The King paid close attention to the arguments and finally laid his eyes on Prin. Then, he raised one hand for the argument to cease.
"Young man, what do you have to say about this issue?" he asked Prin.
Prin was not expecting this. He couldn't just say anything at all though. No matter what, he knew there was going to be a war anyway.
"I...uh...I...
"Say what you need to say," said Jao Sompohb. "We must all hear your words."
Prin gulped and nodded.
"I think we should first send an official letter and settle on some sort of agreement," he suggested. "We should hold off the war for as long as we can. War means destruction and if destruction is the first idea that comes to mind when solving problems, what would people think of the Kingdom of Morakot? The Kingdom could be mighty but the lack of knowledge and strategy would make many look down on this kingdom."
Jao Sompohb smiled and everyone in the room burst into a loud applaud. When Prin looked over to Princess Minthida, she was smiling brightly and seemed as beautiful as an angel. He couldn't help but to return the smile.
"A wise young man he is!" roared Jao Sompohb. "We shall take his advice."
Prin hoped that he didn't offend anyone by speaking his personal opinions. However, whatever advice he gave, he knew that in the end, there will be a war regardless.

Thanks. Hmm...I'm trying to focus on both the made up historical plot and bind their romances so that they flow smoothly along with the story.

Chapter Nine

It didn't and never occurred to Prin that he had to go to the Kingdom of Wasuthep and resolve the border issues himself, accompanied by an army. Unfortunately, he has indeed been ordered to do so by Phra Jao Sompohb and even though he knew that it wouldn't do any good, Prin assented to the order. For some reason, Princess Minthida wasn't very fond of her father's idea nor was she very happy with Prin agreeing to the task. She stomped away angrily after hearing that Prin was the chosen candidate to journey to the Kingdom of Wasuthep to resolve the border issues. Prin didn't understand why she was so angry but decided to leave the matter for later because the first thing he wanted to do was see Nadech. Yes. Seeing Nadech would answer a lot of his questions and he was sure that Nadech would be glad to see him too.

Urassaya skipped and hopped cheerfully back to her house with a bag of medicinal herbs in her right hand. Her boyish disguise did not hide her femininity. She appeared as a cute little teenage boy with a girlish behavior and attitude. Urassaya wasn't used to this. She wasn't used to dingy, baggy boy clothes and sporting hats but since she had no alternative choices, outfits like these were her best bet.
In addition to the ridiculous pauper clothing, Urassaya wasn't used to living a commoner lifestyle. Morever, she had never taken care of someone else before and not to mention the person happens to be a handsome young man. The past few days with this so called stranger made Urassaya unsure of her feelings. She felt...attracted to him.
"You know danger lies ahead."
The familiar deep voice startled Urassaya. She immediately came to a halt in the middle of a calm street and looked around for the speaker. There he was approaching her from the right side.
"Your Highness," said the man.
"What're you doing here?!" Urassaya asked him in a loud whisper so that no one else around them could hear.
Nearby, Prin was walking at a normal pace but when he saw Rath, he stopped and hid near a few vendors so that he could conveniently eavesdrop on the conversation between Rath and the unknown man.
"My duty is to protect you," the unknown man said to Rath. "I am a royal guard and a royal guard must fulfill his duties to avoid punishment."
"Are you doing it to avoid punishment or because you actually worry about me?" Rath shot back at him.
"Both," replied the guard.
He slightly bowed but Rath motioned for him to stand in a normal posture.
"What are they talking about?" Prin wondered. "Why do they seem so secretive?"
"That man that I carried to your house the other night," began the royal guard, who was disguised as a commoner. "Is he still here?"
"That's none of your business," snarled Rath. "I told you to keep quiet about it and never to approach me again. When I'm ready to return, I will return."
"But the King...
"Don't use my father's title to threaten me," snapped Rath. "Get lost now and never approach me again!"
The royal guard bowed a last time and walked away leaving Prin wondering Rath's true identity. Just as the guard disappeared around the corner, Prin dashed out of the vendor stalls to catch up with Rath.
"Diew," said Prin, pulling onto Rath's collar.
"Oh it's you," said Rath.
"What are you doing out here?" Prin asked him. "I told you to take good care of my friend."
"Well too bad I'm not medicine," said Rath smartly. "He needs medicine to make him feel better and that's why I came out to buy him medicine. If I knew you would talk to me this way, I would've left him dying there on the bed."
"Geez," said Prin. "Just a little tease and you can't even handle it. You're just like a little girl."
"I'm not a girl!" exclaimed Rath. "I'm a boy!"
Prin laughed and swung his arm over Rath's neck.
"Aow!" yelped Rath.
"Aw come on, a little brotherly hug won't kill ya," said Prin. "Walk on."
Prin let go of Rath before they reached the house. As soon as they got there, Nadech was looking wildy around the living room as if he were examining.
"Aie Prin," said Nadech. "Aie Prin!"
He ran to Prin and pulled him into a bone breaking hug.
"Calm down man," said Prin.
Nadech let go and turned to Rath.
"Where'd you go?" he asked Rath.
Rath held up the bag of medicine.
"Medicine but I guess you don't need it now that you've got your buddy," said Rath. "Honestly, you two are weird. Do you come from a different planet or something?"
"Pretty much," replied Nadech.
He turned to Prin.
"Man, I'm glad to see you," said Nadech.
"Yeah, me too," said Prin. "How are you feeling?"
"Better," replied Nadech. "Man, is this really the Kingdom of Morakot? I mean, look at this house! Everything seems so unordinary!"
"I didn't want to believe it at first either but it is," said Prin.
Rath stood there blankly scratching the back of his head. He had no idea what these two guys were talking about because everything seemed fine to him. All but the two guys themselves. He found it not a coincidence that he accidentally meets two weirdos in the middle of the marketplace looking lost and alienlike.
"I have a question," said Rath, cutting into their conversation.
The two looked at him.
"Mind telling me where you're actually from?" asked Rath. "Because everything you say and do is just so weird and dumb as if life is new to you or something."
"Well buddy," began Nadech. "Life isn't new to us but this type of life is."
Mark kicked Nadech in the shins and shook his head.
"What," said Nadech. "It's true isn't it? How the hell we end up in this kingdom anyway? It's soo freakish. I'm actually scared."
Rath looked from Nadech onto Prin.
"Last time I remembered, I didn't hit him on the head," he said to Prin. "What's up with you guys really?"
"Look, even if we tell you you won't believe us," said Prin. "It's better if you didn't know."
"Tell me," Rath insisted.
"We're from the 21st century," replied Nadech, folding his arms. "A place where everything is in place and you guys are history."
Rath seemed confused as there was a quizzical expression on his face.
"I don't get it," he said.
"Yeah, well you're not the first," said Prin.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Nadech. "Did you already tell someone else that?"
Prin nodded.
"It's a long story," replied Prin. "I'll explain to you later."
He looked onto Rath. Prin didn't want to say anything regarding the palace and Jao Sompohb and Princess Minthida in front of Rath. After all, he wasn't so sure about this kid after seeing him communicating with a mysterious guy.
"Why?" asked Nadech.
"Why don't we go for a walk," suggested Prin.
"Dee," said Rath.
"No, you're not coming," said Nadech.
"Yes, I am too coming," argued Rath.
"No, you're not," said Nadech.
"Aie Rath, please," said Prin. "Thanks for taking care of my friend. We've got loads to catch up on so do you mind if we step out of your bubble for a minute?"
"You mean you want me to step out of your bubble?" asked Rath. "I'm not stupid you know. If you needed privacy, just say so."
"Well, we need privacy," said Nadech.
"Well, too bad, I will not grant it," said Rath.
"Grant it?" repeated Nadech. "Who do you think you are? A little boy reciting the role of a prince or something?"
Angry, Rath stomped away. Nadech shook his head.
"Man, this kid is really something," he said to Prin.
"Give him a break," said Prin. "He took care of you."
"I think he's gay," said Nadech.
"Let's go," said Prin, slightly pushing Nadech's back so that he sprung forward out of the door. "We've got lots to talk about."
They walked to a peaceful place near the river to carry on their conversation. Prin told Nadech all about his palace encounters and his odd acquaintance with Princess Minthida. On the other hand, Nadech told Prin about the complications they all went through to search for Prin and of course, he did not fail to mention Natwara. Natwara. Prin had forgotten all about her!
"Hey," said Nadech, nudging Prin in the ribs with his elbow. "Bpen rai wa?"
"There's something else I have to tell you," said Prin. "I have been ordered by Phra Jao Sompohb to go resolve issues with the Kingdom of Wasuthep."
"Arai na?!" asked Nadech shockingly. "You can't! It's dangerous, man! You know there's gonna be a war regardless. Why meddle with this issue?! You could change history and it's not good to meddle with time like that and not to mention you're wasting precious time and putting your life in jeopardy! You could use this time to figure out a way to help us get back home!"
"I know, I know," said Prin.
He sighed heavily and buried his face in his hands.
"I have no other choice," said Prin, re-emerging. "I can't just tell them there's gonna be a war on that date and that date and when their kingdom is gonna fall. They're gonna think I'm insane or even worse, beheaded for saying stupid stuff and jinxing the kingdom."
Nadech paced up and down furiously with one hand on his forehead.
"Fine, I'll go with you," said Nadech.
"No," said Prin. "If Phra Jao Sompohb sees you, he'll suspect me for sure!"
"Why?" asked Nadech.
"Because Princess Minthida told him that I am suffering memory loss," replied Prin. "Just what will he think when he sees you, huh?"
"Well we could make up something like we're from a kingdom far far away and our kingdom was destroyed by severe floods and that I am your brother and I came out to find you," said Nadech.
"No," said Prin.
"Aow na," said Nadech. "Just leave it to me. Besides, if I don't go with you I'll have to stay with that Rath kid. It's like staying with a girl!"
"Fine," said Prin.
After setting things straight with Rath, Prin led Nadech back to the palace. Oddly, Jao Sompohb had bought their pitiful made up story and allowed Nadech to stay in the palace too. Princess Minthida, on the other hand, was no where to be seen. Prin figured she was still upset so after leaving the royal court, he decided to confront her at her chamber.
"You go ahead and go to my room," said Prin. "It's over there."
He pointed into the direction of his chamber so Nadech would have an idea of where to go. However, his mind was on Princess Minthida.
"Well where are you going?" Nadech asked.
"To Princess Minthida's chamber," replied Prin. "I have a few things to clear up with her."
Nadech tugged on Prin sleeve and pulled him back.
"You seem weird," said Nadech.
"I don't know what you're talking about," said Prin.
"Seems like you're into this woman," said Nadech. "Don't forget that you still have Natwara."
That seemed to have gotten Prin. Nadech was right. He must think about Natwara. Natwara was his fiance and she was the one he should be thinking and caring about. But then again, Princess Minthida was only an acquaintance. She was no where near a friend or anything beyond that.
"I'll be right back," Prin told Nadech.
"Hey, Aie Prin!" Nadech called out after Prin had took off.
Nang Noi had just closed Princess Minthida's front door when Prin arrived. She nearly had a heart attack at the sight of Prin.
"Oy mae jao!" exclaimed Nang Noi. "When did you get here?"
"Just now," replied Prin. "Is Princess Minthida still awake?"
"Uh...jao ka," replied Nang Noi. "I will go get her for you."
"Mai tong," said Prin. "I just have some things to clear up with her. It won't take long. You may go to bed."
"Uhh...
"Go ahead," said Prin.
"Jao ka," said Nang Noi.
She scurried away without looking back.
Prin entered Princess Minthida's front door and ascended the stairs to her bedroom. He rapped on the door gently a few times before Princess Minthida opened.
"Did you forget something Nang Noi?" asked Princess Minthida.
When she saw Prin, she immediately tried to shut the door. However, Prin pushed in and closed the door behind him.
"What are you doing here?" asked Princess Minthida. "I thought you'd be in the Kingdom of Wasuthep by now."
"What's wrong with you?" asked Prin. "Why are you acting this way towards me? Did I offend you?"
"Nothing is wrong with me," replied Princess Minthida, turning around. "If you've no business here, you may leave."
"I'm not going anywhere until I find out what is wrong with you," said Prin. "I know you're mad at me but I don't know why."
"I'm not mad at you," said Princess Minthida.
"Stop being stubborn," said Prin, stepping in front of her so that they were face to face. "Ever since I accepted the order from Jao Sompohb, you became angry at me. What have I done wrong?"
"I am upset because you've accepted that order!" said Princess Minthida furiously.
There were tears glistening in her eyes.
"Laew ngai?" asked Prin. "What makes you so upset by that?"
"It's because I don't want you to go!" exclaimed Princess Minthida. "What if something happens to you while you're there?! The Kingdom of Wasuthep isn't known as hostile for nothing! Their land is extremely dangerous!"
"You worry about me, do you?" asked Prin silently.
"I'm not worried about you," lied Princess Minthida through sobs. "I...I'm just worried that you might not succeed in fulfilling my father's orders."
"Mai jing," said Prin. "You worry about me and I can see it in your eyes. Otherwise, you wouldn't be crying."
"I most certainly am not," said Princess Minthida, trying to hide her tears by turning away.
Prin grabbed her arms and turned her back around to face her.
"You can lie to others but not yourself," said Prin. "I promise you I will be fine. I'll take care of myself. No need to worry. I don't deserve that from you because you are of much higher status while I'm just a commoner. Don't waste your tears on me."
That didn't stop Princess Minthida's tears from flowing. Prin raised his hands up slowly and wiped them away. Their eyes were fixed on each other and slowly, Prin moved in closer. It was rather a wet kiss because of Princess Minthida's tears. Suddenly, Prin saw Natwara and immediately released Princess Minthida.
"Don't forget that you still have Natwara," he remembered Nadech saying.

Chapter Ten

"Bpen rai wa?"
Prin was lost in contemplation. He was thinking about a lot of things at the same time. As he was sitting there staring off into space, Nadech eyed him curiously.
"Hey, Aie Prin."
Ever since he shared a kiss with Princess Minthida that night, Prin thought of nothing but her...and Natwara. He was basically cheating on Natwara. For the past few days, Prin had been at an inner war with himself. One side of him longed for Princess Minthida and the other side was attached to Natwara. Well, not necessarily "attached" as some would say but he was somewhat obligated to her because nevertheless, Natwara was his fiancee. Prin remembered what a head monk once told him and Natwara. They were not meant to be together.
"Your soulmates do not live in this world," he remembered the monk saying.
When he couldn't just sit there any longer, Nadech nudged Prin in the ribs.
"Aow," said Prin. "Arai wa?"
"Bpen arai wa?" Nadech repeated. "I've watched you sit here staring off into space for some time now. Are you thinking about this problem ahead of us? See, I told you that we shouldn't have came."
"What the hell are you talking about?" asked Prin. "I'm not thinking about that problem."
"Well what is wrong with you then?" asked Nadech. "You haven't been yourself for the past few days. If I remember correctly, your symptoms began after your visit to Princess Minthida that night."
Prin felt uncomfortable. He didn't want to talk to Nadech about it so soon. He knew that Nadech would definitely tell him off for the insincerity towards Natwara.
"Look there you go again," said Nadech.
"Chun...
"I SAID STOP RIGHT NOW!"
Before Prin could finish speaking, the soldiers on horseback ahead of the caravan drew out their swords.
"GO GET HIM!" exclaimed the same voice that ordered the soldiers to stop.
"That voice is familiar," said Nadech.
Prin and Nadech steered their horses to the front and when they saw that the commotion was coming from Rath, they both exchanged terrifying looks and jumped off their horses.
"Aie Rath!" said Prin in a loud whisper. "What are you doing here?!"
"Why didn't you guys tell me about this?" asked Rath.
"Do you really have to know everything?" asked Nadech.
"Hey I saved your life!" said Rath in a loud voice so the accompanying army could hear.
"Oh that's right," said Nadech. "Let me pay you for that so you will leave me alone."
He reached into his pockets but Rath stopped him.
"I don't want your money," he said. "I want to go with you."
Nadech shot a berserk look at Prin.
"Hey mai dai!" he exclaimed. "If you go with us, there will definitely be a lot trouble along the way and not to mention annoying."
"Mai dai," said Prin. "We're going to work not sightsee or play around. You can't come with us."
"If you don't let me go, I will sit here forever," said Rath.
To show that he was serious, Rath sat down right there on the dry dirt.
"Fine," said Prin. "But you must promise to listen to us and do what we say."
"Okay!" said Rath excitedly standing up.
"But we don't have another horse," said Nadech.
"Let him ride with you," said Prin.
"Hey, no way!" exclaimed Nadech. "There is no way this kid is riding with me. What if he rapes me or something?"
"Fine then, I ride and you walk," said Rath.
Nadech was just about to punch him but Prin grabbed his fist halfway.
"Don't," said Prin. "It'll make a bad impression."
"Fahk wai gaun tur," Nadech said to Rath, jumping back on his horse.
"Don't fahk too long because the interest incurs," said Rath.
He made a face and stuck his tongue out at Nadech.
"Stop it Aie Rath," said Prin. "Get on the horse with Nadech right now."
Rath happily walked over to Nadech's horse and held up his hand.
"What?" asked Nadech. "Don't tell me you need help."
Rath pouted and put his hand down.
"Fine, I can get up myself," he said.
After a few attempts, Prin shook his head and walked over to help Rath onto the horse with Nadech. Rath sat in front and Nadech on the back.
"Hold on tight," said Nadech. "If you fall, I won't stop to help you back up."
"I know na," said Rath.
Prin shook his head once again and held up his hand for the army to continue moving forward. They hadn't even traveled two miles from Morakot and yet, there was hundreds of miles to go. It was going to be a dreadful journey.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Natwara set the picture frame down and wiped her tears. She sat on her bed and tried not to cry. She had been crying for the past few weeks and it wasn't doing her any good at all. What was worse than Prin and Nadech missing was that recently, the police had presumed the two dead. A possible mysterious murder they say. However, Natwara didn't believe it. Since there were no clues left behind, Natwara felt completely useless. There was nothing the police could furthermore do and there was nothing she could do to help the police.
There was a soft knock on Natwara's door but she did not responded to it.
"Khun Noo ka," said Jaew, a servant in the Wongwasana household.
Natwara ignored her.
"Khun Noo ka," Jaew repeated. "Please open the door for me. I am bringing you warm milk. You didn't have dinner so please, at least drink this warm milk."
Natwara got up and opened the door. Jaew placed the tray on the glass table in front of Natwara's television set and brought the glass of warm milk to Natwara on the bed.
"I don't want it," said Natwara.
"But you must have something in your stomach," said Jaew. "You shouldn't starve yourself."
Natwara took the glass of warm milk from Jaew and took one sip.
"Please drink all of it," said Jaew.
"I already took a sip," said Natwara. "Now take it away and leave me alone. I'm sleepy now."
"Khun Noo ka," Jaew whined.
"Bpai," said Natwara.
She didn't even bother raising her voice. It was no use because she really didn't care about anything anymore. She only wished to see Prin in her dreams.

On the way home from the police station, Pakorn noticed a police car parked on the side of the highway. Surprised to see a petite woman standing in front of the car, he slowed down and parked behind the cop car. It was when he was up close that Pakorn realized the petite woman was sporting an officer's uniform: officer uniform pants and a white t-shirt with the police logo.
"Bpen rai reu bplao krub?" Pakorn asked as he approached the officer.
"This car seemed to have completely broken down," replied the officer. "How nice of you to stop by but they've sent out another officer to assist me. Thank you."
"Oh how funny," said Pakorn. "I was just on the way from the police station."
"Really?" asked the officer. "May I ask for what reason?"
"Well, it's complicated," replied Pakorn. "My friends are missing and the officers haven't really helped out at all so they decided to presume my friends dead. I was up to clear up a few...
"So basically you're saying us police officers are no help?" asked the officer.
"No I didn't mean it like that," replied Pakorn. "But no matter what, they shouldn't come to a conclusion when they haven't done anything at all."
"We've done the best we could," said the officer. "If we haven't found your friends by now, there is a high possibility that they are dead, in other words, mysteriously murdered."
Pakorn was getting angrier by the seconds. Here goes another officer that makes no sense.
"Nee khun tum ruat, in case you haven't realized, there are many other similar cases like these that are still ongoing for investigation," said Pakorn, stepping towards the officer. "So, there is no reason to presume my friends dead and close the case like that."
"Look here, mister," said the officer. "You need to be careful on your words and tone because you do not speak to a police officer like that. I can arrest you for inappropriate behavior."
"See, there we go again," said Pakorn. "I've done nothing at all yet you want to arrest me? This is too much!"
"Well...
Just then, another police car parked in front of the broken down one and an older male police officer stepped out.
"Is everything okay?" asked Officer Surin.
Unlike the female officer, this guy had his jacket and name tag on. Pakorn didn't feel like arguing with these cops so he turned around and got back into his car while the female officer repeatedly yelled after him like a wild animal. This was absolutely insane. His friends were missing and even the cops couldn't do anything about it. Either that or they refused to do anything at all. Pakorn felt helpless and stressed. What he needed was a round of good drinks.

Pakorn opened his eyes was face to face with Phupoom.
"Hey!" he jumped out of terror.
"Finally," said Phupoom, sitting down next to his Pakorn.
"You scared the shit out of me," said Pakorn.
"Here we go."
Pakorn looked up to see Jarinporn walking towards him with a tray of teacups and teapot.
"Arai ah Rin?" he asked Jarinporn.
"Tea of course," replied Jarinporn. "Taam dai."
"I know it's tea but what for?" asked Pakorn. "What happened?"
"You really don't remember?" asked Phupoom.
Pakorn shook his head.
"Well you were drunk driving and was pulled over by a cop named Nattaporn," Phupoom explained. "She said that you had offended her earlier so she arrested you for that and drunk driving."
"What?!" exclaimed Pakorn. "So that's her name? Nattaporn."
"You're lucky we could bail you out," said Phupoom.
"Chai," added Jarinporn. "Otherwise, you'd be sleeping in jail right now."
"Well how did you two know about this?" asked Pakorn.
"Because we were at the police station clearing up some things with the cops," replied Phupoom. "They insisted on us providing them with more information because you were useless and for some reason, they wanted to hear from us separately."
"Baa," said Pakorn.
"Chai, it really is crazy isn't it?" Jarinporn added.
She poured some tea into three teacups and handed one to each of the guys.
"Drink up," she told Pakorn. "It might just make you feel better."
Pakorn shook his head and did as he was told. Could his life get any worse? First, two of his friends magically disappear. Two, he got into with the cops. Three, he got arrested for nonsense reasons. This was all that cop's fault. That Nattaporn cop. If he hadn't stopped to check on her, if he hadn't met her, he wouldn't have gotten arrested. He was going to get her back for sure.
