It's never too late to learn na. We must admit, it's definitely not easy keeping up with all these languages when you adapt yourself to new ones all the time. I wish to be fluent in Thai one day but it's hard when there's no one to communicate with at home. Perhaps the dialect is Teochow since it's the most common one spoken amongst Khmer people. I used to know some Teochow too but again, it all went down the forgotten lane haha.

Chapter Six: This is My Girlfriend

After a week in the hospital, Maleewan had completely recovered and returned to work normally. Passachon could not help but think about her and at times he would tell himself not to. That Thursday morning when Passachon opened the door to his office, a familiar voice greeted him.
“How are you?”
To his surprise, it was Maleewan.
“What are you doing in here?” asked Passachon.
“I just wanted to thank you for saving my life,” said Maleewan getting up from the rolling chair.
“I’m the one that’s supposed to thank you,” said Passachon walking towards her. “You took a bullet for me.”
Maleewan was silent for a second.
“Mai pen rai,” she said.
“How is your wound?” asked Passachon.
“It’s completely fine now,” Maleewan replied. “Thanks for asking.”
“I’m only asking because you’re an employee here,” said Passachon. “Not because I’m interested or worried or anything.”
Maleewan looked annoyed. She tried to avoid direct eye contact with Passachon.
“I just wanted to thank you,” said Maleewan. “Now that I’ve already done so, I will leave.”
“Diew,” said Passachon grabbing her arm.
Maleewan turned around.
“What else do you want?” she asked.
“I want to ask you about the diamonds on the emerald jewelry set,” he blurted.
“What about it?” asked Maleewan. “Do you think I was the one that put in the fake diamonds?”
“No,” said Passachon. “I was hoping you would know the truth.”
“I’m sorry but I don’t,” said Maleewan.
“If there is nothing else, I will leave now,” she said.
Maleewan left without another word. Her responses left Passachon to think about whether it was right or wrong to open up the truth to her.
“No, I can’t do that,” he said to himself. “I must first investigate this matter on my own.”

During lunchtime, Passachon thought about asking Maleewan to lunch but unexpectedly, Inchampa beat him to it. When Inchampa opened the passenger car door for Maleewan, Passachon hid himself nearby and watched in jealousy. He watched on until the car was out of sight.
“What are you looking at?” asked a voice.
Passachon turned around and saw Chompoo.
“Maa gaw dee laew,” said Passachon grabbing her arm. “Is your car around here?”
“Let me go!” Chompoo exclaimed.
“Shut up and answer my question,” said Passachon.
He was still holding on to her arm.
“Why are you asking?” asked Chompoo. “Or do you…
“Answer me!” Passachon yelled.
“Yes,” said Chompoo.
“Gaw kae nun,” said Passachon. “Lead me to it now.”
Within minutes, they were on the road with Passachon driving.
“Where are we going?” asked Chompoo.
Passachon ignored her question and scanned the road for Inchampa’s silver Mercedes Benz.
“Where are we going?” Chompoo repeated.
“You’ll see,” Passachon replied.
Passachon spotted the silver Benz swerved behind it.
“Are you following that car?” asked Chompoo.
“Will you just shut up?” asked Passachon. “We’re going to lunch, okay.”
“Well why do you have to follow that car?” asked Chompoo.
“You’ll know when we get there,” replied Passachon.

Passachon followed the silver Benz to a fancy French restaurant. First, he waited until Maleewan and Inchampa walked in. Then, he followed with the curious Chompoo at his heels. When he was about to open the door, Passachon suddenly stopped.
“What did you stop for?” asked Chompoo, who almost ran into him.
“I have an idea,” Passachon replied.
He held out his left arm.
“Arai?” asked Chompoo looking as curious as ever.
“I’m going to escort you,” said Passachon. “Hurry up and take my arm.”
“Why?” asked Chompoo.
“Just do as I say or I will kiss you right here in public,” said Passachon.
Chompoo did as she was told and they both walked in arm in arm. Passachon caught the sight of Maleewan and Inchampa and pretended as if they met in coincidence.
“Aow Khun Wan,” said Passachon. “Sawadee krub.”
Maleewan and Inchampa looked confused.
“Sawadee krub,” said Inchampa.
“Aow, Khun Inchampa is here too?” asked Passachon in a sarcastic tone. “I didn’t even see you for a second.”
“Nee Khun Pat, if you’re here to cause trouble, I would like to ask you to leave,” said Maleewan.
“I’m here to have lunch with my girlfriend,” said Passachon. “Besides, you don’t own this restaurant.”
Maleewan stared at Chompoo, who was silent with a confused look.
“If that’s so, why are you bothering us?” asked Maleewan.
“I’m not bothering you,” said Passachon smiling. “It’s called manners. You work at my company and since it is a coincidence that we meet here, I should greet you.”
Maleewan rolled her eyes.
“Khun Inchampa krub, if you don’t mind, may I join you two here?” asked Passachon.
“Krub,” said Inchampa with a smile.
Passachon let go of Chompoo and waved for her to sit down.
“Pull out the chair for me,” said Chompoo.
“What?” asked Passachon.
“I’m your girlfriend so pull out the chair for me,” said Chompoo.
Much to Chompoo’s surprise, Passachon pulled out the empty chair next to Maleewan like a gentleman. Then, he seated himself in an empty chair next to Inchampa. Passachon grabbed the menu in front of him and pretended to concentrate on it.
“Khun Wan krub, what do you like to eat?” asked Inchampa.
“Oyy, Khun Inchampa krub, Khun Wan isn’t a picky person,” said Passachon. “She’ll eat anything.”
Chompoo smirked.
“I’m not that hungry,” said Maleewan.
“Mai dai na krub, you just got out of the hospital so you must take care of your health,” said Inchampa.
“Tee rak ja,” said Passachon looking directly at Chompoo. “What do you like to eat?”
“I think I want a salad because it is good for you,” said Chompoo smiling. “Not only it’s good for your skin but I think it may perhaps, make me pretty. I want to be pretty like Khun Maleewan so I can get more attention.”
“I would like to excuse myself to the restroom,” said Maleewan getting up.
“Me too,” said Chompoo. “Oh, and tee rak ka, don’t forget to order my salad.”
“Ja,” said Passachon in the sweetest voice ever.

Chompoo followed Maleewan to the bathroom.
“What do you want?” asked Maleewan.
“I just wanted to tell you frankly,” said Chompoo. “Now that you have Khun Inchampa, leave my Passachon alone. He’s mine.”
“How do you know he loves you?” asked Maleewan.
“Well he kissed me twice or thrice,” said Chompoo. “Has he ever kissed you?”
“You can worry free because Khun Passachon isn’t mine,” replied Maleewan. “I’m not interested in him nor Khun Inchampa.”
“You’re really strange you know that?” asked Chompoo. “One day, you chase after Passachon and the next day you’re all over Khun Inchampa.”
“Pood dee dee na ka,” said Maleewan. “I don’t chase after anyone. Moreover, these guys came after me.”
“Okay, I just hope it’s true,” said Chompoo.

When the girls returned to the table, Inchampa was nowhere in sight. The food had already arrived and Passachon was eating away peacefully.
“Why did you go so long?” asked Passachon, looking at Chompoo. “Did you know I missed you?”
“Where is Khun Inchampa?” asked Maleewan.
“Outside the restaurant,” Passachon replied. “He’s on the phone.”
Maleewan glanced out the window.
“Mae, he is talking on the phone outside,” said Passachon. “You worry about him that much?”
Maleewan sat down and folded her arms while watching Maleewan and Passachon eating happily.

Outside, Inchampa was still on the phone. He had no choice but to answer that call because he knew he would be toasted if he ignored it. What ruined his day even more was learning that his mother, the Queen of Kiriman, was now in Thailand…waiting at his condo.

Chapter Seven: When Bad Meets Evil

After lunch that afternoon, Passachon ended up with both women, Chompoo and Maleewan. Inchampa excused himself before he even did finish his food and asked Passachon to take Maleewan back to work.
“Dai krub,” said Passachon without hesitation.
“Why do you have to leave so sudden?” asked Maleewan.
“Coincidentally, I have some urgent business to take care of,” replied Inchampa.
He got up and left the restaurant while the other three were left awestruck.
“This guy seems strange,” said Chompoo. “What does he do for a living? Does he have some sort of hi-so business?”
“What does that have to do with you?” asked Passachon. “Eat up.”
“I’m just asking out of curiosity,” said Chompoo. “Khun Wan ka, do you know what Khun Inchampa does for a living?”
“I don’t know,” replied Maleewan.

Inchampa sped to his condo and greeted his Queen Mother.
“Sawadee krub, tan mae,” said Inchampa kneeling before her.
“Get up,” she said. “Don’t think that I don’t know what you’re up to. You’re supposed to kill him not befriend him. When are you going to take care of it already?”
Her voice was calm as she spoke but deep down, Inchampa knew she was impatient. She was like that a lot but Inchampa was used to it.
“I’m waiting for the right moment,” replied Inchampa. “Someone attempted to assassinate him before I did.”
“What?” said the Queen in a shock. “Who was it?”
“I don’t know,” replied Inchampa. “Police are still investigating. At first, I thought…
“Thought what?!” exclaimed the Queen. “Did you think I did it?”
“I dare not krub,” said Inchampa tilting his head down.
There was an utter silence as the Queen slowly walked around the room. All of a sudden, she looked at Inchampa directly in the eyes.
“You must take care of this matter as soon as possible,” she said suddenly. “Kill Passachon when you get the chance.”
“Uh…krub,” said Inchampa.
“I must return to Kiriman and take care of some business,” said the Queen. “As for that girl, you must distance yourself away from her.”
“What girl?” asked Inchampa.
He wondered if she was referring to Maleewan.
“You know exactly who I’m talking about,” said the Queen. “That girl named Maleewan. You should distance yourself from her because she will only bring you trouble and make things harder for you to take care of.”
“Krub,” replied Inchampa. “When are you leaving?”
“I shall leave now,” said the Queen.

Inchampa could not believe it. His dear mother flew all the way from Kiriman just to see how he was progressing and only to leave that very same day! She could’ve saved herself a trip by just calling or sending someone else over. Whatever she was doing, he would never understand her. Moreover, he didn’t understand why he had to kill Passachon. Most important of all, he didn’t understand why he should distance himself from Maleewan. What harm was she to him?

That evening, Sia Gumjorn had called for a meeting concerning the fake diamonds on emerald jewelry set. He simply wanted everyone, particularly Passachon, to know that he was tired of dragging the case any further. He wanted it taken care of not as soon as possible but immediately. Throughout the whole meeting, Sia Gumjorn was the only one speaking. No one dared to share their opinions. Passachon, on the other hand, wasn’t really listening to his Loong Jorn. Instead, he was trying to think of a good plan to make Maleewan tell him the truth. He decided he would catch her after work.
Sia Gumjorn returned to his office and slammed the binders he was holding onto his desk. Then, he slumped in his rolling chair, rested his head back and closed his eyes. Something vibrated on his desk. Sia Gumjorn opened his eyes and saw his phone lighting up. There was a missed call and text message from a strange number he had never seen before. Sia Gumjorn opened the missed call first but decided not to call back because he wasn’t in the mood to talk. He opened up the text message afterwards and read: “To Sia Gumjorn, I have something important to talk to you about. If you want to know who I am, meet me at the Plaza Hotel tonight at 10:00pm. P.S. I know who stole the diamonds.”
Sia Gumjorn hesitated and texted back an “okay.” He decided to meet the unknown person.

If he went to her directly, she might not want to talk to him. So, after work that evening, Passachon waited at Maleewan’s car. Chompoo, on the other hand, was waiting at Passachon’s car, which was parked on the second level of the parking garage. Maleewan’s car was at the employee parking lot in front of the building. When Maleewan approached her car, Passachon appeared before her.
“What do you want now?” asked Maleewan. “Or do you want to take me to dinner?”
“Chai,” replied Passachon. “I already made a reservation.”
“Why can’t you just leave me alone?” asked Maleewan. “You already have Khun Chompoo.”
“Khun Chompoo and I have no relations with each other,” said Passachon. “Now get in the car.”
Maleewan eyed him with suspicion.
“Don’t look at me like that,” said Passachon. “I’m not going to hurt you na. Overall, I saved your life so I want you to pay me back.”
“What?” asked Maleewan. “How should I do that?”
“By going to dinner with me of course,” said Passachon. “Now get in the car before I force you to.”
Maleewan finally got in the car. She let Passachon drive since he knew where they were going.
Chompoo waited at Passachon’s car for fifteen minutes. When she concluded that he won’t show up, she went out to the front parking lot to her car. It was perfect timing. As soon as Chompoo got to the parking lot, she saw Maleewan’s car pull out with Passachon driving. Curious, Chompoo quickly got in her car and followed Maleewan’s car.
“Where are we going?” asked Maleewan.
“Plaza Hotel,” said Passachon frankly.
“Arai na?!” exclaimed Maleewan. “I thought you said we’re going to dinner.”
“We are,” replied Passachon. “I made a dinner reservation at the Plaza Hotel. Is that clear yet?”
“Out of all the places in Krungthep, you pick a hotel?” asked Maleewan shaking her head. “What if someone we know sees us? What would they think?”
“Whatever they think is their problem,” said Passachon. “Oh, why, are you scared your Inchampa will see us?”
“Pood hai dee dee na ka,” said Maleewan. “There is nothing between me and Khun Inchampa.”
“Even if there is, it has nothing to do with me,” said Passachon. “Raun jai tum mai?”
“I’m not,” said Maleewan. “I hope that after this dinner, you will leave me alone.”
“You really hate me that much?” asked Passachon.
Maleewan felt her face turned red. She really didn’t hate him. In fact, she liked him.
“Khun,” said Passachon. “Why are you so quiet?”
“Why do you think I hate you?” asked Maleewan.
“Well that means you like me then,” said Passachon smiling.
Maleewan got quiet. She sure didn’t know what to say.

Chompoo continued to follow Maleewan and Passachon closely. Moments later, both cars pulled into the Plaza Hotel. Chompoo tried to keep a low profile so she wouldn’t get caught. “Why did they come here?” she thought to herself.

Nearby, Pakorn and his men watched as Chompoo followed Maleewan and Passachon in the hotel. He signaled for his men to wait nearby.
“Wait until I call you guys,” he said to them.
“Krub nai,” said the men.
Both of the men were same guys that tried to kill Passachon before. This time, they weren’t going to fail.
Pakorn’s phone rang.
“Yes dad,” he answered.
“Don’t fail this time,” said his father, Nopporn. “And be careful.”
“Krub,” answered Pakorn.
Pakorn walked inside the hotel and sat in the lobby where he could see all the people that were coming and going. He waited for Passachon to leave. By then, he would signal for his men to take action.

Chompoo followed Maleewan and Passachon until they walked into the hotel’s restaurant. She decided not to go in after them but to wait in the lobby, on the opposite side of Pakorn.
“What are they up to?” thought Chompoo to herself.

By the time they were done with dinner, it was about half past seven. They wouldn’t have been in the restaurant that long if it hadn’t for the late arrival of their food. Passachon now felt like he was wasting time. After dinner, Maleewan excused herself to the washroom while Passachon waited at the table. Then, when she reappeared, Maleewan announced to Passachon that she was ready to leave.
“Not yet,” said Passachon.
“What now?” she asked. “You wanted me to have dinner with you and I already did. What else do you need?”
“We need to talk,” replied Passachon.
Maleewan turned around to leave and Passachon ran after her. When they were out in the lobby, Passachon grabbed her arm.
“I reserved a room already,” said Passachon. “We need to talk in private.”
“If you really want to talk, we can talk out here,” said Maleewan.
Chompoo, who was hiding herself nearby, was fuming with jealousy. She stood up.
“No,” said Passachon. “I want to know about the diamonds.”
Chompoo sat back down, grabbed a newspaper in front of her and held it in front of her face. “What diamonds are they talking about?” she thought. When Chompoo looked up again, Maleewan and Passachon was nowhere in sight. She quickly got to her feet and looked around wildly.
Pakorn, who was on the opposite side of the lobby waited patiently and enjoyed the show. He assumed that there was a love triangle between Chompoo, Maleewan and Passachon. He needed only to take care of Passachon. Whenever his target walked out, Pakorn would not let it slip away.

Passachon dragged Maleewan into a fancy large suite. Then, he closed and locked the door behind him. He turned around and looked at Maleewan.
“Why do you have to lock the door?” asked Maleewan.
“Sit down,” said Passachon pointing to the nearby couch.
“I don’t have much time,” said Maleewan. “If you want to talk, hurry up and talk.”
“Okay,” said Passachon. “I’m going to be frank with you. Why did you switch the diamonds?”
“How did you know I switched the diamonds?” asked Maleewan.
“Because Khun Somkiet told me that you were the only one that worked on the emerald set,” said Passachon. “Plus, you volunteered to work on it.”
“Th…that doesn’t mean I did it,” Maleewan stuttered. “You asked me to dinner today because you wanted to investigate this?”
“Chai,” replied Passachon. “Just tell me the truth. Do you know how much it hurts for me to keep it to myself? I don’t want to expose you in front of everyone in the company.”
“I’m going to say again,” said Maleewan carefully. “I didn’t do it.”
“WILL YOU STOP HIDING THE TRUTH?!” Passachon bellowed. “It’s not going to help you!”
There was an odd silence.
“Do you have some sort of problem or reason that you can’t tell me?” asked Passachon.
“Chun…chun…
“You must have your reason for doing this,” said Passachon. “Do you have a financial crisis? If so, I can help you with that.”
“I don’t have a financial crisis,” Maleewan answered.
“Well how am I supposed to help you if you don’t tell me what’s going on?” asked Passachon. “Why did you do it?”
“I already repaid you for my bad deeds,” said Maleewan.
A tear trickled down her beautiful bare face.
“What?” asked Passachon. “What are you talking about?”
“Chai, I did it,” said Maleewan. “I felt so bad for doing it that’s why I took that bullet for you.”
“What are you talking about?” asked Passachon. “Do you know what you’re saying?”
“I know that it’s wrong for me to do that but I have no choice,” said Maleewan.
“That doesn’t mean you should risk your life for me,” said Passachon. “I didn’t need for you to do that. If you have some sort of problem, we can talk about it.”
Passachon walked towards Maleewan and hugged her. He let her cry in his arms. After the emotional moment, she pushed him away.
“I’m not going to force you to tell me why you did it,” said Passachon. “Just for you to admit that you did it was hard enough. You have your reasons.”
“I will repay you with every baht and satang,” said Maleewan.
“You don’t have to,” said Passachon. “This is a company issue and if they find out you did it, I won’t be able to help you. Leave this matter to me.”
“Khob khun na ka,” said Maleewan wiping her tears.
Passachon pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her.
“I think you should stay in here for awhile,” said Passachon. “If you go out now with your teary face, people will assume that I did something to you.”
“Ka,” replied Maleewan.
Passachon glanced at his watch. It was now a quarter past eight.
“I’m going to take a quick shower,” said Passachon. “I smell like the restaurant.”
Maleewan nodded.

Both Chompoo and Pakorn was running out of patience. While Chompoo searched the hotel floors, Pakorn waited in the lobby. His phone rang again and this time it was the two gunmen.
“What the hell do you guys want?” asked Pakorn.
“Nai krub, we’ve waited so long, are you still going to kill him?” asked one of the gunmen.
“Of course! I’ve waited this long already, I can wait some more,” said Pakorn. “And you guys should too. Don’t go anywhere and keep a close look out.”
“What if he doesn’t come out?” asked the gunman.
“Aye ngoh! Use your brains you idiot!” exclaimed Pakorn in a whisper so that the whole lobby wouldn’t hear him. “If he goes in, he will surely come out!”
“Krub nai,” answered the gunman.

When Passachon got out of the shower, it was already a little past nine. Maleewan was looking out the window of the hotel room.
“What are you looking at?” asked Passachon.
“I’m wondering if I’m doing the right thing,” replied Maleewan.
“If whatever you’re hiding makes you feel uneasy, you can tell me,” said Passachon.
“I’m very sorry,” said Maleewan.
“I already said so didn’t I? If you don’t want to tell me now, that’s fine,” said Passachon. “Whenever you’re ready to tell me, I’ll be ready to listen.”
Maleewan nodded.
“Are you ready to go?” asked Passachon.
“Ka,” replied Maleewan.
Maleewan and Passachon left the room and gently closed the door behind them.
“I apologize for keeping you out so late,” said Passachon.
“YOU’RE SO DARING!” bellowed a voice.
Maleewan and Passachon turned around and saw Chompoo storming towards them.
“You followed us here?” asked Passachon. “How could you do that?”
“If I hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t know how shameless this woman is,” said Chompoo.
“Nee khun, what are you crazily talking about?” asked Passachon. “Are you jealous?”
Chompoo punched Passachon in the arm.
“Of course I’m jealous!” exclaimed Chompoo. “How could you do that to me?”
“Do what?” asked Passachon. “We have no relations.”
“How could you say that?” asked Chompoo.
“Why can’t I say that?” asked Passachon. “I never asked you out. NOW GO AWAY!”
Chompoo made a face and stormed away. When she was out of sight, Passachon laughed.
“You think that’s funny?” asked Maleewan.
“Chai, this crazy kid thinks I love her,” said Passachon. “You don’t think it’s funny?”
Maleewan didn’t answer him but continued walking towards the elevator.
“I think she has good intentions towards you,” said Maleewan as they went down the elevator.
“I know but I don’t want to get involved with women,” said Passachon.
“Are you gay?” asked Maleewan.
“What?” asked Passachon surprisingly.
He leaned in to kiss her.
“Do you want to try?” asked Passachon.
Maleewan pushed him away. Passachon laughed again.
“I think you like me too,” said Passachon.
“Who says?” asked Maleewan.
“Your eyes says so,” said Passachon.
Maleewan did not reply. When the elevator door opened, Passachon held out his arm to escort Maleewan. She ignored it and kept walking.
“Hey don’t ignore me like that,” said Passachon. “I don’t want people to…
Passachon stopped in his tracks.
“Arai?” asked Maleewan. “Why did you stop walking?”
Passachon grabbed Maleewan and pulled her to the corner.
“What are you doing?” asked Maleewan.
“Shh!” said Passachon. “Don’t you see that guy over there? That’s Loong Jorn!”
“Chai jing jing,” said Maleewan. “What is he doing here? Or does he know that we’re here?”
Passachon thought for a moment and shook his head.
“I don’t think so,” said Passachon. “I’m going to follow him. But for your safety, I think you should get out of here.”
He handed Maleewan her car keys and took a step forward. Maleewan grabbed his arm.
“What are you doing?” asked Passachon.
“I’m going with you,” said Maleewan.
“No, you can’t,” said Passachon. “If Loong Jorn finds out that you changed the diamonds, you’ll be in trouble. Please go.”
Maleewan nodded.
“Wait until Loong Jorn is out of sight, then leave,” said Passachon.
“Ka,” replied Maleewan. “Be careful na ka.”
“You too,” said Passachon.
Passachon followed Loong Jorn to a suite on the second floor. He watched closely as Loong Jorn knocked on the door and was greeted by woman that was around Na Pim’s age. Loong Jorn looked around carefully and stepped in the room. Passachon’s heart sank. How could he do that to Na Pim?! No, thought Passachon to himself. He was thinking too much. Loong Jorn would never do that to Na Pim.

Chapter Eight: An Odd Feeling

Passachon didn’t want to risk eavesdropping outside the door while Loong Jorn and the unknown woman were inside. He didn’t know what they were doing nor what they were up to. He decided he would wait in the lobby.
When Passachon was in the lobby, Pakorn waited for him to leave the hotel. But, he didn’t. Running out of patience, Pakorn called for his gunmen to come inside and lure Passachon out.
While Passachon walked up and down the lobby impatiently waiting for Loong Jorn to come down, the two gunmen walked right up beside him.
“Come with us and don’t call for help or you will die,” said one of the gunmen.
Passachon looked to his right side. The gunman on the right pointed a gun at his waist. Passachon did as he was told and followed the gunmen to their car. Pakorn was already in there.
“Sawadee krub, Khun Passachon,” said Pakorn looking back from the front passenger seat.
“Who are you?” asked Passachon.
“You don’t need to know who I am,” replied Pakorn. “I need only to know who you are.”
Pakorn signaled for one of the gunmen to start the car.
“What do you want?” asked Passachon. “Were you the one that sent these two gunmen after me last time?”
“Chai,” replied Pakorn.
“Where are you taking me?” asked Passachon.
“You’ll know when we get there,” said Pakorn.

Inchampa suddenly woke up from his sleep. He just had a bad dream that he was kidnapped by two gunmen and a guy named Pakorn. There was sweat all over Inchampa’s face. He wiped it and breathed heavily. Inchampa had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. Then, the thought of Maleewan ran across his mind. Inchampa picked up his phone and called her.
“Hello Khun Pat, khun bpen arai reu bplao?” asked Maleewan.
She said this all very fast as if she was panicking.
“Khun Wan krub, this is me, Inchampa,” he said.
“Oh, I’m sorry Khun Inchampa, I didn’t look at the caller ID,” said Maleewan.
“Why do you sound like you’re worried?” asked Inchampa. “Are you okay?”
“Ka, I’m fine,” Maleewan lied.
“While ago, you thought I was Khun Passachon,” said Inchampa. “Your voice sounds as if something is wrong with Khun Pat.”
“Mai mee arai ka,” replied Maleewan. “Bye.”
Maleewan hung up without saying another word. Inchampa quickly got dressed and went to the Diamonds Galore company. He didn’t know why he wanted to go there but he felt like he should. When Inchampa pulled up on the upper level of the parking garage, he saw two men with masks drag Passachon out of the car. Another man that also had on a mask pointed a gun at Passachon. Without thinking, Inchampa pulled out his own gun and fired towards the masked men. He missed all three shots but the two men holding on to Passachon let go of him. Passachon broke free of the men’s grasp and ran towards Inchampa. A shot rang out and Passachon fell to the ground. Inchampa fired two shots and hit one of the masked men. Then, all three of the masked men scrambled back into their SUV and sped away. Inchampa collapsed.

The sun shone brightly in the sky and the air was refreshing. It was indeed a great day for a walk in the park. When Passachon was a little boy, Na Pim used to take him to that park all the time. Today was different. Passachon was accompanied by Inchampa.
“I used to come to this park all the time,” Passachon told Inchampa.
“I’ve never been to a park,” said Inchampa.
A man walked up to Passachon and Inchampa.
“What are you doing here?” asked Inchampa.
“What are you doing here?” asked the man.
“We came for a walk,” replied Passachon.
“Do you like the park?” asked the man. “Do you like this feeling?”
“I’ve never been to a park before but I feel great,” said Inchampa. “I don’t want to leave here.”
“Both of you must leave now,” said the man.

“Khun Pat! Khun Pat!”
Passachon opened his eyes and saw Maleewan staring over him.
“What’re you…AHH!...
“Don’t move or your incision will break,” said Maleewan.
“What’re you doing here?” asked Passachon.
“Visiting you, of course,” said Maleewan. “How do you feel?”
“Where’s Inchampa?” asked Passachon. “I saw Inchampa.”
“Yes, he saved your life,” said Maleewan. “But, he’s fine. He visited you earlier.”
“Where’s that guy?” asked Passachon.
“What guy?” asked Maleewan. “Oh, you mean the gunmen?”
Passachon looked around for the guy that he had just met in the park.
“Khun Pat, are you okay?” asked Maleewan.
“Krub,” said Passachon. “I just had a dream but never mind.”
Maleewan looked strangely at Passachon.
“What’s today?” asked Passachon.
“Today is Saturday,” replied Maleewan. “Look, I think you should stop asking questions and get some more rest.”
“Pat ka!” said a familiar voice.
Maleewan and Passachon glanced at the door and saw Chompoo.
“You have a visitor,” said Maleewan. “Since your girlfriend is here to take care of you now, I’m going to take a break.”
Maleewan got up to leave and waved for Chompoo to sit down.
“Khob jai na ka,” said Chompoo to Maleewan.
When Maleewan left, Passachon closed his eyes.
“Nee, don’t pretend like you’re sleeping,” said Chompoo.
Passachon opened one eye and looked at Chompoo. She playfully slapped his left chest.
“OW!!!” Passachon yelled.
“Oh stop pretending,” said Chompoo. “You got shot on your right shoulder, not your left chest.”
“But it still hurts when you hit me,” said Passachon in a babyish tone. “I felt it vibrate through my back.”
“Really?” asked Chompoo. “Let me see. Where?”
“Right here,” said Passachon pointing to his heart.
“You crazy guy!” said Chompoo slapping him some more.

Maleewan met Inchampa in the waiting area downstairs.
“You’re back already?” asked Maleewan.
“Krub,” replied Inchampa. “How is Khun Pat doing?”
“He’s fine now,” replied Maleewan. “He has a special visitor so I came down to take a walk.”
“If that’s so, why don’t we go have some coffee in the food court,” Inchampa suggested.
“Okay,” said Maleewan.
Inchampa ordered two cups of espresso.
“How did you know the gunmen took Khun Pat to Diamonds Galore company?” asked Maleewan after taking a sip of her espresso.
“I don’t know either,” replied Inchampa. “I just had a strange feeling that Khun Pat was there. I didn’t know what was happening but I just had a feeling he was there and something bad was about to happen.”
“That’s strange,” said Maleewan.
“That’s not all,” said Inchampa. “When I was little, I used to dream of him. Don’t ask me why though because I’ve never been able to answer that myself either. Last night, when I brought him to the hospital and the nurses took off his shirt to do the operation on his wound, they gave me his belongings in a bag. In the bag, there was also his necklace. The pendant is shaped like the half of a broken heart. It seemed as though the pendant was reattached to that necklace.”
“What do you mean by reattached?” asked Maleewan. “And what does that necklace have to do with anything?”
“By reattached, I mean that the pendant must’ve been separated from the original necklace,” answered Inchampa. “When I had those dreams, I would see Passachon wear that necklace.”
“That is very strange,” said Maleewan. “Why would you dream of him?”
“I don’t know,” said Inchampa.
